Had my ACL replaced 9 weeks ago, everything is going well. Destroyed it in a skydiving incident three years ago. Have to wait one year before I can get back to skydiving and water skiing, but it's worth the wait. Older people who are active in sports can recover nicely, I'm 55.
the whole point behind ACL is pretty much for sportive or active people...if anything its the confidence that stops people from doing there sport after.
Tore my ACL and meniscus and had the surgery on June 2nd 2009. I used the graft from the patella tendon. I had my leg locked in a brace for 1 week and took pain medication for 3 1/2 days. The pain wasn't too bad...the beginning of day 4 is when there was very minimal pain...maybe just ibuprofen here and there. It's now a little more than 3 months post-op and my leg is getting stronger each day. I'm going to the gym everyday trying to make it stronger than it was pre-injury. PT IS IMPORTANT
there is no hospital stay, its out patient, takes 2-3 hours, youll get a cpm machine, i used mine almost 24 hours a day for the first week or so, dont plan on sleeping much, just a drug induced rest, its been two weeks and im off my crutches but still limping bad, by the way you wont be playing much of anything for 3+ months if your lucky, this was the worst thing that ever happened to me and ill never play baskeball again, fuck me
@ahmadkhairul Yeah i just had mine 4 days ago, and im not feeling too much pain either... i noticed your comment was posted a year ago, how is it feeling now? i hope it turned out well, and my doc put me on partial, to full weight bare, so thats good i guess... maybe the reason why my knee hurts more is because i had to have meniscus repair as well.. but yeah hows your knee now?
i compleatly tore mine in 91 had a patella graph to replace the acl and had my leg locked straight for 6 weeks and no weight bearing as well was told no running and no sports with lateral movent ever! 17 years later and i kept up with wrestling and ju jitsu and its still in good shape im told that 17 years is a long time for that repair.i think its cahnged by now i was in for a week now its faster and no were nearly as painfull ie they had to drill itno my shin and up to the top of the femur!!
thats still what they do, i had mine reconstructed last week, same drilling and everything, just a different understanding on post surgery activities.
im gettin my acl done nxt week.. first time can anyone tell me what happens an when an i get back to playing sport? does it hurt an how long do you need to stay in hospital for?
Well your watching what happens depending on which type of graft you chose. Recovery time will depend on you. By that I mean if you dont do what your supposed to after the surgery your recovery time will be longer than if you follow the instructions given by your therapist and doctor. I over worked my leg on day 13 thinking I was doing good and that set me back about a week. I have built a website just for these questions. Come tell us your story at ACLCENTRALdotCOM.
If I wasn't white, and kept thinking I could dunk, they would have lasted longer... The surgery and the outcome each time was awesome, I just kept tearing them..
Dr. Frank Cook, Palm Beach Orthopedic in Jupiter, FL. He is one of the best, and has pioneered several techniques for knees. He has done 3 ACL's for me (all L Knee) and each was perfect until I tore them (too much BBall).
cause its not the doctor but the knee cause the doctor only replaces it and puts it in its place and its the guys fault that hes tearing it (no offense)
Three! Holy Cow Man! I am 4 weeks post-op and hope I never have to do this again. I think with the correct PT I have nothing to worry about. Come talk to us at ACLCENTRALdotCOM. I think the best DR in the nation did mine, but that is my opinion.
this was so awesome. i had tore my acl lcl and mcl back in dec 07. and you are right recovery sucks. i wish i would of known that they could of taped it. i would of asked for it. i always wondered what they did. thanks for posting this.

no offence but if they guy did 3 of your ACL's in the same leg I would suggest that he is not as good as you think???
Surely one is enough?
