Solar power would be nice, and in living in Texas were it is always windy; I wouldn't mind having a wind turbine in my backyard. Ethanol on the other hand is an idea that should be dropped. You would have to cultivate 75% of the Earth's land to replace our dependency on oil, plus it releases more ozone that oil. Hydrogen power is the best alternative to oil.
