Psh this is nothing, I can do this in my sleep! Haha. Okay in all seriousness though, this looks like fun if you know how and where to drop in. I wish I can try this soon (being from the East Coast, I haven't done anything harder than the bowls on Peak 7 summit and Imperial Bowl, although they were straightforward). Any thoughts on how to drop in on something like this?
lake chutes aren't that bad. the scariest part is the drop-in. its about a 8 or 9 foot drop to steepness. then it's only steep for like 600 or so feet. most people ski it, but me and my friends rode it everytime there was pow. if you have doubts about dropping or not don't hike the peak cause there's no other way down.
@priya1985 I'm aware that it's faster, when I was a kid I was a skier because I didn't really know any better and grew up in gay ass yuppy prep squareville shithole by the name of Aspen... Then I moved over to Breck and realized what I had been missing out on all my life, awesome people and much more fun boarding and pissing off old gooks skiing
@TH3xM3DIC I skied then i snowboarded... Snowboarding takes more skill, i still like skiing but skiing is so much more easy to balance since your not just strapped into one board facing sideways. My friend who snowboards, rented some skis for the day and was doing some crazy things for him not skiing in like 6 years, he did a ski slide first try ever and was flying down the black diamonds
Ski and have fun!! winter in almost here!! put the egos away!! love Breck and the Peeps of the town!! Anytime I find myself anywhere in Colorado and snow beneath my skis its a GREAT DAY!!!!!!!
def. not a no fall zone. If you fall here you probably say ouch and get up, roll 100 feet to the bottom at worst. No fall zone means if you fall, you die.
They hold a lot of snow - more than most of the mountain. There's almost always powder dropped by the wind because the chutes are on the leeward side.
Yeah, I did this with my buddy. When we first hiked up and got down to the chutes, we had no clue where to drop in. At one point I looked at my buddy and said,"This was stupid" as I peered over one of the cliffs. We finally found a reasonble place to drop in and came out the other end without a scratch. Needless to say, it wasn't impossible, but it was one of the hardest imbounds run I have ever done. It all really boils down to where you decide to drop in.
i did the easy street though which is still extreme terrain
i wana do zute chute this februrary. i was there this december and it was too windy to go up there. but i swear.
i have done devils crotch mine shaft windows (favorite! they are awesome) lift line (e chair) toms baby imperial bowl arts bowl 7 up goodbye girl mach 1 tiger dark rider mustang elan quiver trinity contest bowl horeshoe bowl
Agree, chutes are way harder than Windows. Depending on which line you take, this can be the steepest inbounds terrain in Summit/Eagle (too bad the vertical is so short). Some of OB terrian off to the side of Blue Sky at Vail comes close, but I think that's really closer to Breck's Windows. Unfortunately, you pretty much have to leave CO if you want runs like this with any decent vertical.
Totally disagree. Get out of Summit County- try Pitkin, Gunnison, San Miguel, and San Juan counties- all have resorts that have much more challenging terrain- with longer sustained vertical, and more technical lines. This is probably the steepest, patrolled, in-bounds terrain in Summit, but not in all of Colorado for sure (see "Western Slope").
i live at the base of breck. if your gona make an alpine ski vid, at least make it something harder than the chutes. dude those are like greens compared to doord, and needles, and windows is up there with them to.
Hi guys, i was there last week, did Chutes, 7 Bowl, Whales Tail, Horseshoe, the expert pistes under lift E, and all those extreme stuff :D. I'm 13 ^^. This place is so Fuckin AMAZING!!! I wish i cud go every year, but im from Holland :(. greetz Leon
yeah i was just there presidents week. didnt do the lake chutes, but just staring at them from the access gate on top of peak 8 was an adrenaline rush. the cornice looked 10 feet or so when i was there (in the main chute). I did Imperial, Horeshoe, Cucumber, Contest, Whales Tail, and the Y-Chutes. The cornice on the Whales Tail was a little nerve racking and it was only 5 feet or so where I dropped in. I can't imagine what the Lake Chutes are like...
me and my brother 12 years old and 14 years old did lake chutes also. it was just a week ago, it wasnt as hard as i thought. the chute is the easiest part.
Psh this is nothing, I can do this in my sleep! Haha. Okay in all seriousness though, this looks like fun if you know how and where to drop in.
