I thought certification exams are boring tests and so is Java. I was wrong! You need to kill a bunch of aliens, win some levels in arcanoid and print funny picture. I'm in!
It's really not that impressive. Java on the surface level is very much like algebra. When I was 14, I was learning algebra (freshmen high school). If I don't know X, what rules can I use to solve X? Since Java is based on classes and rules, given the proper time and training, I'm confident that your above average 12-14 yrs old kid can pass that Java Cert.
Well, congratulations for that boy, good job, but I don't think it's THAT impressive... It got the hype just because people have the stereotype of programming that it's an insanely hard thing to learn (of course it can be very abstract, but not on this level...)
@S4tchm0 yep just like here in the philippines making kids look impressive by winning a robot competition using LEGO...wrong impression that robotics could be learned by kids as young as 3rd grade.
14? I don't know if that's too impressive as I started out in C when I was 13 and used some OO concepts. I can't imagine Java would've been much harder given a "push" in the right direction and if Java had an inherent appeal to me.
cmon it took me about a year or more to get behind the new programming philosophy, used by OOP. Java is probably easier to learn as a first language, but not after you learned FP. That you can add a "third dimension" to the whole, sounds to make more work at the first glance but after some time you understand, the OO way of thinking has certain advantages. 14 y.o boy to make a cert is cool. it's amazing and cool. he has my full respect.
Sure, someone so young might falter if given the task of coding for the real world. However, this is unlikely to detract for a certain and substantial level of achievement. One can say that this kid, as an IT aspirant, has journeyed far past his milestone, and this achievement can only place him well for the rest of his school career, and his first job.
Try working with Enterprise application architecture in the real world. It looks like this video was done in the late 90s. Anyway try getting laid kid, build a class for that.
Oh I'm sorry, you are still here, I was under the impression that you were so depressed and hatefull about yourself at the time of writing that comment that you would've killed yourself. Luckaly you didn't. You have to admit the boy has had a headstart.
but java is pretty easy compared to other languages. i would love to see someone who could program complex things in pure binary. thats heavy shit
TheSchmitzrunner 6 months ago 2
@TheSchmitzrunner coding in binary is a very bad idea.

@tdl0221 which is why its badass if something complex works in it

@S4tchm0 Yeah, SCJP borders to triviality if you already have some programming experience wich many boys his age do. Nice work, though.
