Classic Data. This is when he was studying the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle character Sherlock Holmes. Love this piece. And Brent Spiner is quite the actor to have pulled the role off. Well done.
@tallguy1618 I have, and in my opinion Bashir is one of the lamest ST characters (along with Chakotay), Worf is an animal, and O'Brien is just a random guy. They can never compare to Data, Q and the EMH. There are so many other characters better than them: Janeway, 7 of 9, Spock, Kirk, McCoy, Scotty, Tom Paris, Barclay, Jadzia Dax, etc, etc, etc
You never read the interviews back when the movies were being made, did you?
What he says NOW, when he is no longer doing the series, and makes part of his money from guest appearances, does not change what he said back then. He was very vicious and against any futher involvement in the movies UNLESS they killed Data off.
He co-wrote Nemesis. He killed the character. Data always had a "ages to appear human" trait, so that wasn't it. He didn't want to do the series anymore.
Yeah Nemisis sucked but Spiner only contributed the action sequences. I have to say though I loved him as Arik Soong on enterprise. Great to see him out of the Data character. Made me think there may still be hope for that show.
What's not to love? Data was the best character Star trek ever has had or will have. We should be grateful for what we have and hope nobody tries to redo him like that awful crap of a film they call star trek. There can never be another Data :(
But he is always saying something like, "Ask me any questions you want, just not about Star Trek." I suppose decades of oily superfans asking every question imaginable 10^196 times will do that to you. Maybe he's just tired of the questions! Who can blame him?
In a way it would, just not...Data himself. XD Data uploaded all of his memories and information into B-4 before he died so, technically it wouldn't be THAT big of a surprise for him to 'return' so to speak. the only reason he CAN'T, or rather won't, is because Data is not supposed to age, yet Brent Spiner does age because he's a real person, and it just simply would not be Data if the character were played by anybody else. :)
@MelodySaki Actually, Data was created with an aging system that would allow his outward appearance to change with time, but this fact was seemingly forgotten. It is more than likely Spiner would prefer to move on with his career despite the phenomenal job he did. :< Data seems to be re-born through B-4 in the Star Trek: Countdown comic, though.
Brent Spiner HATED doing Data later. He had several bad experiences, including a fan starting to stalk him, and even chased him down in her car as he drove away from a Star Trek convention.
After Star Trek: Insurrection, he said he would only play Data again in a movie if they killed him off. Brent Spiner has a co-writing credit on Star Trek: Nemesis. You know where this is going. They killed Data off. The B-4 thing was just to appease Star Trek fans.
@Draknfyre Yeah, but that's going to happen with ANY actor that plays a popular role. A shame, too...the ST actors really go out of their way to accommodate and appreciate the fans.
Depends on the actor. I have read that Robert Coltrain ended up hating Star Trek because he felt the writers screwed Voyager over. While he doesn't appear to be outright hostile to fans, he won't, for example, sign an autograph unless you visit a convention, netting him a fee.
He has every right to want to make money, but to tell someone who writes him looking for an autograph "No, buy a ticket to a Trek convention, then pay me money." seems a bit harsh.
@Draknfyre Insurrection should have been the last TNG movie. despite its flaws it was the only one with the spirit of the TNG series and it ended on a happy note of the crew being together.
I agree I wanted a DS9 movie, but it would have been hard to pull off with Sisko "dead", and the crew gone their separate ways. It would have seemed one weird coincidence to bring him back, and bring them all back for that.
Worf's "I'm on loan from DS9" line in First Contact was stretching it.
@Draknfyre Yeah they had a bit of an awkward time trying to figure out different reasons for why Worf kept ending up back on the Enterprise. Still I could see it being done with some 'Prophets bringing them all together' thing. The main problem to a DS9 movie is that it was never really big enough to warrant a full hollywood release
@CIarKent I'm going to have to disagree here. None of the movies had the spirit of the TNG series. Movie Picard has very little in common with TV Picard. TV Picard would almost certainly have gone along with the idea of relocating the Baku. He probably would have even chastised the Baku leaders for being selfish in hogging eternal youth for themselves.
@Nanofuture87 the only way I can logically explain what happened in Insurrection is that the metaphasic radiation somehow effected the judgment and sanity of the Enterprise crew, and Data was still malfunctioning (since the begining of the film)
the only good guy in the film is Admiral Dougherty who tried to save billions of lives.
mind you it was all happening in the middle of the Dominion war and this medical tech could have saved millions of soldiers and help save the federation
@LordOfTheGnus. He's not. I think he enjoys being seen as if he is, though. If you see him interact with his fellow ST actors at cons and such he obviously loves it. But if you read his Twitter he clearly likes confusing the hell out of people and keeping them on their toes.
Its elementary my dear Riker.

Brent Spiner still loves Star Trek - and Data.
But just like Rowan Atkinson said in an interview: The character Mr. Bean is "ageless" and therefore Rowan wont make any more films.
So does Spiner.
