Thank you sir and ma'am, I really appreciated this squat tutorial. I was looking for a good one for quite sometime.
I've had knee troubles in the past and have feared the squat, and have been doing leg press for a while. Now, my knee seems to be strong enough, and I'm going to start easing into the squat. Cheers, and I have subscribed :).
Hey, just wanna say thanks for such an incredibly detailed and thoughtful video. You guys are really doing a service to people seeking quality advice. There's so much trash/gimmicky stuff to wade through, this is what people really need to see.
Any chance you could do a similar video on benching in a shirt!?? There is so little information out there on this topic that isn't addressing multiply benching.
@mrodock We don't bench in multi-ply gear. I'd check out some of EliteFTS's videos and look for info from Metal Militia. Those guys really know their stuff. I hope this helps.
Getting back in to squatting today. Watched Layne Norton utilize this for his 600 pound raw squat today, going to use your three step approach for sure. If only everyone in the gym knew about this.
This video is great! Glad I came across it as I'm sure it will help me out a ton with squats. I've struggled to find the best position. The last bits of the video offer some really worthwhile tips.
On a side note, it's awesome you and the wife lift together.
I squatted with a typical meathead setup for 8 years, best squat 500.
I started using this.... what I'd call an "IPF" setup. Three weeks of learning it already hit a PR. I think that this would be the most practical setup for almost any female lifter and almost any non-SHW male. Great video. The nuanced points at the end were the ones i actually found the most helpfull
Sioux-z taught this to me about a month ago. I can attest that once I started squatting this way, my overall form improved IMMENSELY. Thanks Sioux-z and Matt!
Seriously, of all the helpful things you guys have taught me over the last 3 years, this set-up has to be at/near the top of the list. I won't be able to say this forever, but I've hit a PR squat at every meet I've done so far, and only missed one attempt. I KNOW that this set-up has been a major factor in that.
I know tuscherer uses the 2 step, but I can really see what youre talking about, and he almost always clips the rack on walkout.... I guess if you had the uprights in it wouldnt be as much of an issue
@Newtime001 That's correct. Mike does use the two-step method. We've actually spoken about it. Yes, moving the racks in helps somewhat. However, even with the racks in - the first step back has to be too far and wide thus creating an unstable environment. Three-steps is more compact and precise. The likelihood of getting the two-steps to match is not as likely as when you take three steps. That said, I can't argue with Mike's results. To each his/her own. :-)
