I've heard somewhere that females develop more muscular jaws then males making them able to crush the shell of the snail. Males don't not develop the muscular jaws so they stick to eating insects instead. Is this true?
@Skipper4today yes, with map turtles, but the snails that I used were soo tiny that any of my turtles could have easily crushed it, even a baby. Some snails can get HUGE though...
@jwhyhalo456 I got mine unexpectedly for free, three of them, and when I did two of them were hatchlings that were still feeding off the protein from their shell. If you are sure that yours are old enough to eat food, but it isn't, it may be stressed in its new home. Your turtle should only take one week or less to become accustomed to its enviroment. Let it get comfortable and it should eat the food. If you get too worried, talk to a local exotic pet veterinarian. :) Hope I helped.
Reduce lighting.... oh and algae starts from overhightened levels of nitrates. To reduce this, try cleaning the tank more often OR reduce food fed so that NONE can go to waste. Always be sure to monitor the animal so that it is eating ALL of its food. HOPE THIS HELPS. Oh and btw, u have a very um....intersting username :P

@ClassyTurtles Every 3 days I give my turtle a thawed shrimp. He just loves em. They are small. One would be about the size of his head.

My turtles have always eaten snails because they usually get in my tank when I get feeder fish and the snails reproduce quickly.

Hey quick question, I got a algae problem. I cleaned the entire tank full emptied but the algae came back like 3 days later. What should I do?
