  • Whoa, I just noticed you were wearing an MSU shirt. I don't live that far from there lol.

  • VERY nice review. I just heard of Agile guitars today. Thanks for posting!

  • Great review. I agree with a lot of things you said in this. I have an 828 Interceptor Pro and I love it. Except I have had a hard time adjusting to the scale length and the EMG's. And with the pickups it IS hard to hit good pinch harmonics. I did find that playing around with where you are hitting the harmonics with your right hand makes a huge difference. Still building the muscle memory to hit it spot on every time though. Personally, I see it as a way to become a better player.

  • I'm borrowing a 27" 7String Schecter C 7 atm, and if you're serious about your 7 String tone, and playing, I highly advise one.

Your tone is snappier, and low end is tighter. you can drop tune without it sounding like shit. your strings don't have to be super heavy. and it forces you into good technique which I thought was the real bonus.

that, and I go back to my standard 25.5" Ibanez, and I'll tell you, it's a shitload easier to play that thing now, after learning to stretch on a 27".

  • i play the agile intrepid 8 string baritone just to let ya know a trick i do for pinch harmoics try the dunlop pics the ones with the pointed ends it helps alot

  • Are all 27" baritones?

  • So im not to familiar with neck scaling and stuff.. And right now i have an epiphone SG, but im thinking about getting an Agile. What would be the difference between my guitar and a 25' scale or 27'?

  • bought an Agile Septor Pro 627 EB Tribal Red and never been happier..love the baritones and not going back...going to buy another and have it sanded down for a natural finish and better sound...DROP G FOR LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Both good vids, dude. I recently bought a Septor Pro 6 string and, unfortunately, I think I got one from a bad batch. Major neck warp and fret buzz issues, there was only so much my tech could do the neck was that bad. Had to raise the bridge so that the guitar is almost unplayable in the higher frets just to get rid of most of the buzz in the lower frets (which is still kind of there too).

Glad you got a good one, though! :)

  • dimarzio makes pickup covers so they fit the holes

  • When you say the pickups are wider than other pickups, I think you are comparing them to other 6 string pickups. There are other pickups specifically for 7 strings. Dimarzio makes a few types that are awesome.

  • Its exactly how I put it... The 707 was made into a bass pickup housing and is larger than a standard 7 string pickup. Your Dimarzios will be smaller then the route cut for the 707's. You'd have to them directly mounted to the wood of the cavities or have the cavities filled around them... Ty...

  • @GuitarGear1 Ok thanks for clearing that up.

  • So you're saying you can't change the pickups out for, say passive Dimarzio 7 string pickups?

  • Comment removed

  • @DeathPenguin1000 simon is a jewish bag

  • I had the same issue with pinch harmonics on a floyd rose guitar! It was a bit to get used to, but it comes with time and practice :-)

Considering a 725 DNC EB Nat Septor Elite!!

  • ummm :)

  • Wats a baritone scale???????

  • Is the 27 in really that much of a change? ://

  • @ThEmSkillzZ1234 Yes it is, but it's an amazing change. The extended scale really helps it hold the low end that a 7-string needs, especially when playing with your B dropped to A. Even when playing in standard tuning, you will notice amazing string tension with this extended scale.

  • Good review. I am steering away from the longer scale neck. I want to keep my technique the same, and all my guitars are std. scale.

  • Nice

  • thinking og buying a new guitar in the next month and debating between a agile or schecter. is this versatile? and wat r ur opinions?

  • as of now, i am playing an ibanez rg350dx , mostly drop c stuff (august burns red , heaven shall burn , bfmv) but i recently discovered a band called Mercenary. Their stuff is very interesting and i'd very much like to learn it. They play on 7 strings, would you recommend the Agile Interceptor for something like that? check out the solo for "Isolation" , its so wicked, and thats my main goal if i get a 7 string, which i will anyways, i just wanna know which 1 i should get.

    Thanks :)

  • finally an honest take on the switch from 6 to 7 string... definitely appreciate you making the vid!

  • Okay, so you turned me away from the 27" since I play a lot on the lower end, I thought it'd be nice to have that space in the higher frets, but I spend a lot of time on the lower frets as well, and I don't wanna be jumping around the fretboard too much. One big question, is if you could show the sustain of the higher notes on high gain, as well as an open strum, and if you could do some sweeps so I could see how they sound? I'm a techdeath player, and I wanna get this guitar.

  • I was not comfortable with the Emg pickups on my schecter in the beginning either... But when i turned down the gain alitte and added some more mid it actully sounds great ! But it takes a while to found a sound you like.

  • the original string gauge that comes with the guitar is 9-56 but if i was to upgrade it to 10-58 jim dunlops how much would i notice a difference

  • It'd be just like going from 9's to 10's on a six string. I personally don't care for strings lighter than .10's... but, of course, its all personal preference... Hendrix played .13's like they were .8's! thanks for watching.. Ty...

  • i just got a agile septor elite 727 which is pretty much for the most part the same guitar with a difference of a hip shot bridge, im pretty sure they are the same either way. this guitar is incredible. i have always played esp, never liked any other electric 6/7 guitars for my style but this guitar blows my mind. Agile is insane. dont be afraid to get one.

  • great review! got a black flame 725 pro on the way. thanx for all the info on it!

  • the back of the neck is painted, but is it a matte finish or is it like clear coat like the rest of the guitar?

  • Do you know if it's possible to swap out the emgs with Bare Knuckle pickups?

  • is it better than a schecter blackjack atx c7???!!!!???!!!??

  • really wish i had seen this before i bought my 727. the scale is definately more awkward than i anticipated but its too late

  • dude take a break! sounds like your out of breath! lol awesome review and for those people who wanna hear playing check out the part 1 vid man!

  • GO GREEN!!!

  • just fuckin play it!!!! please!! fuck

  • Nice review man, i like it and it's very informative.

Unless i missed out on any information concerning the neck dimension i'd like to ask you about the thickness, i am a man who prefer Schecter-style necks, im a schecter-player so to speak,i do not own any 7's(this might be my first 7) but anyhow, does the Intercepter Pro 727 feature a thin neck (like Ibanez typeo) or more of a thicker character?

  • good review! pretty decent information, enjoyed the vid a lot.

one thing i didnt understand: does the extended neck length make the strings feel loser or tighter? lets say i put 9`s on it, do they feel lighter to play than on a normal scale length? and do they still sound tight and in tune even if they`re 9`s on a 27"?

you recommend me that one for shredding or do you think i should spend more money on another one?

oh and last one: how about the tremolo arm? its smooth or cracky? :D thanks!!

  • Hey nice vid!!! I have a tribal Green 727 on the way...

  • appreciate this video. Just ordered my interceptor 725 today.

  • Man, you've been sooo helpful....

i'm ordering this but with camo finish, it's gonna be amazin, i'm lookin forward to it

    keep on doin reviews

  • 6:50 XD

  • I actually ended up selling my LTD Viper 417 because I hated the neck so much. I'm glad to see that someone agrees with me about the ESP seven string necks being way too big.

  • thanks man(: VERY informative

  • really appreciate the rusty cooly vid preference

  • six strings for life. ;) Thanks for the review. Been eying an Agile. Nice to get so many different opinions.

  • im probably going to get the same on in "Tribal Blue".

    ive got a couple questions.

    1. How much different is it without fret markers. (i know there are ones on the side & all but i was wondering bout how it doesnt have any on the board itself)

2.i have pretty large hands, so it it like rediculously longer feeling, or is it just a little bit larger because the blue that they make that's a 25.5 inch scale and a mahogany neck is flamed maple and not quilted maple. and i'd only want quilted..

  • @Slipknot1362 i like it best with no fret markers! the dots on the side of the neck help just as much. the only difference is that others wont be able to tell which fret exactly youre on

  • hey im wondering which is better bolt on necks or neck thru ones cuz agile has new guitars that have bolt on necks but idk if should get the bolt on or neck thru which do you suggest

  • @bcrich2690 thru all day

  • great info man. really helped.

  • I'm buying my first 7-string and i'm 14 years old. i have small hands so should i buy agile interceptor 25.5 scale? And which one's better the agile interceptor pro-b or agile interceptor pro????? pro-b has the seymour duncan pickups so is it better than emg s? how much time it takes if i order it from rondomusic? weeks? days? i live in Finland. answerrs. sry my english

  • @Anarnt13 or suggest me a 7-string guitar i should buy because i have saved about 1200 euros in 2-3 years for a new guitar. suggestions .

  • this guitars are made in which country?

  • great guitar but you could spend 200$ more for a Carvin, and get AAAA grade wood and it is a custom shop made guitar. Straight from the assembly line and into your hands. I could smell the finish and the wood when i opened the case for first time. Also they aren't just comparable to 2000$ guitars, they surpass them in many ways. I have a 2000$ Strat that plays like a dream but the carvin is dreamier. They have plenty of impressive endorsements too. Holdsworth, Gambale, Macalpine, Vai, and more.

  • Vai plays Carvin amps, not guitars.. but I think Carvins are about as good as Agile, honestly... just going to come down to neck preferences... Ty..

  • @SirJamestheIII Unless you live outside USA, where carvins aren't awesome priced.....

Other than that carvin ftw :D

    Agile ftw too :D

  • i like carvin 7th strings way the heck more.....I get active/passive electronics and just everything is amazing about them

  • Actually you're really good at talking and very informative don't listen to that dude. However, my guitar player is looking to get this exact guitar and we play stuff similar to cannibal corpse. I'm assuming you would recomend it?

  • Appreciate you saying that... As far as this EXACT guitar goes, I ditched the EMG's myself, never really got a taste for them and I now also have a 7 string with a 25.5" scale that sets up beautifully and might be a bit more nimble for fast death runs. Totally up to your guy's preferences though. Happy to answer any questions you have, all the best... Ty...

  • @GuitarGear1 Hey dude, cracking videos! I'm thinking of gettin' into 7 string mayhem so I've been browsing forums etc. Two short questions: 1) there's a big debate about how the 27" gives you clarity at the low register, but the notes are lifeless at the higher end of the fretboard. And that it's the other way around with a 25.5". Any thought? TBC

  • ...2) I should probably ask that at Rondo Music, but would I have to pay a second guitar in Custom taxes if I decide to go for an Agile? I'm asking cause I'm based in Germany. Thanks Ty!

  • i dare someone to count how many times he says " ummm".

  • You should do a shot everytime I say umm....

  • @GuitarGear1 i really like the way you think.

  • @adegamisoumounopano In the first 1:16, 16 times.

  • Really thx for making this video!! Helped me a lot.

  • Glad you liked it man... Ty...

  • hey just so you know duncan has come out with passives that fit in the bass casing that emgs use.

  • is there a way i can buy this guitar without a tremolo system from rondo music plz explain i really want one but i hate the maintnence needed for a trem !!!! PLZ HELP!!!!!!!

  • @poiuytrewq95 hey dude they do have this one with out a tremelo Agile Septor Std 725 RN Black Flame

  • @antoniomartinez9898 yah but i really want a 727 oh well i might just put up with it lol i might just block it :P

  • @antoniomartinez9898 well they got a Agile Septor Elite 727 EMG MN Black Flame

but it gots a maple neck not ebony its close to what u want right?

  • um...

  • @GuitarGear1 are the emgs really that bad? when i see them on youtube they sound fine..

  • um um um um um um um um um um um um um um um um

  • would u recommend this for shredding or do u think the 27 inch scale is not so appropriate?

  • the slightly larger scale gives you more space between frets in the higher registers... if you're spending a lot of time up there shredding... this might give you a lot more room to wiggle in. But if you're more of the slury kinda sliding between position type, it'll force you to really pick up your hand and put it where it needs to be... Ty...

  • Is it hard to play fast with the painted neck?

In conclusion what are the good things and the bad?

Does this guitar use active pickups?

  • Active pickups have a preamp circuit powered by a 9v current that actively sculpts your tone. Some people feel active pickups have a sterility to them and they feel compressed. Your ears should be the judge of what you like best... Ty...

  • I like how you elaborate about how you have to go through some adaptation to this guitar. Sounds really interesting and fun at the same time to me

  • Really appreciate you saying that... Ty...

  • Just so you know, you can buy EMG pickup covers. You can easily install passive pickups, and just put the covers over it.

  • awesome video. personally I am looking into getting a 7 sitring and probably a new 6 string.I have never heard of Agile before but with the wood they make there guitars from i might be going for it but do you have any experance with 6 string necks? I currently love my LTD M-1000 and i am looking for a guitar same if not better. pretty much an ebony fretboard would make it perfect in my mind.

thank you again for the video review

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that way about chunky neck profiles on seven strings. I have a schecter and I really don't like it.

  • im looking into ordering one of the sevens and they talk about putting a deposit on it and i dont pay it off till september, does that mean they are building the guitar and i wont be getting it for a few months or something?

  • Exactly... Rondo is way behind most of the time with supply and demand of Agiles... So you should totally buy mine... ;)

  • Cant wait to get one, im planning on a green quilt version of this one. with shipping costs it comes to a grand total of 705, not bad at all. in a few weeks i should have the money, but it takes awhile on mimimum wage.

  • dude im a little curious about the baritone scale. i understand that the frets a futher apart (sorry for bad english). but if you have a baritone scale, doesn't that afect your tuning if lets say you want to stay in standard? don't you have to get lower on your tuning?

  • In short, increased scale length = increased tension. So a Les Paul with a 24 3/4" scale doesn't feel as stiff as a Fender with a 25.5" scale. By making a guitars scale longer, you can have lower tunings without floppiness. Having the guitar in standard tuning would just mean it would play stiffer than a guitar with a shorter scale, but theres no reason you can't tune it to whatever you want. Contrary wise, a shorter scale guitar can be tuned lower with heavier gauge (higher tension) strings.

  • @tibi1687 like guitargear1 said, baritone keeps the tention up for low down tunings like drop c or B. but theirs a catch...

if you use a baritone its a bit more dificult to play because of the scale.

if you use a 24 3/4 scale or 25 1/2 scale with low tunnings you must use high guage strings like 56-11 or so. if you use thinner guage strings it will feel like ur playing with ruber strings lol

  • hey there i wanted to ask you how many springs can you put on the tremolo because i saw a picture in some forum and some dude had like 4 or 5 springs on it.. i really like the guitar but i hate trems.. i know they have some models with hard tales but they don't have the EMG's and i'm willing to settle with the tremolo as long as it can be blocked :)

  • Block of wood is all you need to block the trem... just wedging it between the block of the trem itself and the cavity of the guitar and you're done. Otherwise there is a product called a Tremel-no... its about 80 bucks, but you can either have your trem locked or floating with the flip of a switch. Totally up to you... and yea.. you can load it up with springs if you want... Thanks for watching the vids and commenting... Ty...

  • @freakalishess You could get a Septor model. It's basically exactly the same guitar without a floyd rose.

  • Doesn't DiMarzio make seven string passive pickups?

  • Theres actually several companies (and yes DiMarzio is one of them) that make passive seven string pickups, the problem is only the Seymour Duncan Blackout Phase II's or EMG 707's are that particular size...

  • i have a dumb question...does the difference in scale affect the fact tht it would have 24 frets?

  • Nope, frets are all just a little farther apart...

  • @GuitarGear1 thanks

  • Because I can and its my choice to do so

  • is it a huge diff between the 27 and a 26.5? ive played a 26.5 and it seemed like no biggie to me

  • If you play 26.5 then it won't be a problem.

It's going from 25.5 to 27 that might be a problem.

If you have long fingers then baritone scale necks will be alright.

I find them better because of the size of my hands.

  • Hey another way to help the tone of the

EMGs is to experiment with different picks, I was using the dunlop .88mm and now I started using the Dunlop pitch black Jazz 1.14mm picks and they sound great, but it may take a while to get use to them if you are using a standard pick.

  • @jaykeunit im using the jazz 3s in orange, nice attack easy to use

  • I'd like to get my hands on a 7 string, he said something about string gauges, I have a dean vendetta xm and I might get some diff gauges and see what's comfortable for me, 10-46 aint cuttin it no more, I'm thinkin 08- 42? Ill get some sets and mess around and see how it goes

  • if your gettin smaller guage strings, then why are you even contemplating getting a 7?

  • Michigan State fuck yea!!

  • how low do you tune without getting slack strings?

like a 6 string goes down to B....can a7 string go down to F comfortably?

  • It's rare that a six string will go down to a B "comfortably" without modification and string changes. Tuning a seven string to F# or something is not impossible, but you'd need to take the same steps on your seven string as you would when tuning a six string down to B. That means conceivably altering the size of the seventh string slot to accommodate a .70 gauge string, or something.

  • I'm a left handed player and am really interested in agile as they offer a couple of 7 strings in left handed, the only thing that is putting me off is the floyd rose, is there any point in getting a guitar with a floyd even if I don't use the whammy bar?

  • @Cottis You can a guitar with a floyd and just remove the bar and block the bridge and you've got a hard tail.

  • @Cottis or you could see if they would do one for you custome. At the moment there not taking custome orders, but im kind of in the same prediciment. just go to there sight and look it upi in about 2 or three months man.

  • continuing what i said B tuning stands for baritone. so 25.5 7 stringers are kinda already baritones. so having a baritone 7 string almost gets you.... duno a half octave or maybe a full octave down maybe.. im not sure. soo if having a guitar like that almost gets your tunning lower that nile i think. the use drop A or A standard on 6 strings. so that take us to drop G or i saw on one of my friends guitar something like drop F. not very sure. to sum up. crapy saound.

  • dude i agree with JaeSwift87 but the problem is that uhmm..., its not a very good idea to put the 27 scale on a 7 string guitar because it dont matter what you do, finaly you will end up having a guitar has half of the souns just like pluging a base guitar into a mxr fullbore metal. i played a PRS mike mushock and and rely got impressed how much it gets close to 7 string sounds. BTW 6 string baritones are tuned to B (from baritone) 7 stingers have the 7th string tunet to B

  • agiles are my fucking dream guitars, in most aspects, especially those new natural ones with maple fretboards for 2010! dammit!

its just sad that i live in denmark, because i have to pay an apeshit amount of VAT and so on, and i don't get any customer's guarantee or so, so i just ended up with an ESP LTD Viper-407 :)

  • could you buy a used one on eBay? Ty...

  • Thanks for answering my question

  • You seem to be an Ibanez fan. I prefer Jacksons though, how would you compare it to one?

  • An Ibanez or Agile to a Jackson? And to save on another message... Were you thinking like a DKMG or something specifically?

  • Nothing really specific. There's just a definite difference in overall and total feel between Jackson and Ibanez in construction, balance, weight, neck shape, fret feel and binding.

My newest is an RR1 but I have some lower end Jacksons as well.

  • I hope this makes sense to a Jackson fan. I find Jackson guitars to have a very tight feeling neck radius and there seems to be a very "speedy" feel to their necks overall.. Agiles aren't really quite like Ibanez or Jackson in their feel. Agile has a little more of a rounded feel than either of them, but not in a Schecter or LTD kind of way. The neck just isn't quite so "up and down".. i don't know how else to put it. I hope you know what I mean. They really do play well, however. Best.. Ty..

  • Hey, thanks for the indepth review :)

Just wanna add to your comment about the pinch harmonic problems: The bridge and neck pickup are positioned differently due to the longer neck scale, this means the ideal harmonic positions are different to what your used to from say a 25.5'' guitar.

Try hitting a pinch harmonic more towards the neck (like 2-3mm more than what you used to) and it should work :)

  • try slinkey strings

  • Hey man, would you say this guitar is worth the 650 bucks you pay for it?

  • I know this is like 2 years after you sent the comment.. but yes.. I would say its worth the 650... No other builder I know of can (or does) offer the features and hardware Agile is putting together for the price... Ty...

  • @GuitarGear1 you could put the JB's... you will just have to use rather a pickguard or pickup rings... thats all (:

  • where can you buy an agile

  • rondomusic. com (youtube won't let me put up links... but it is all one word... Ty...

  • great review you answered a question I just posted literally 5 minutes ago you answered the question about the neck I was also curious about switching it to passives but emg's are good too used to be big on actives til I found the Lundgren M7 pickup and the JP Liquifire for the neck and I love the tension on the strings in my guitars it makes it more powerful and percussive thanks again dude

oh one other thing can you pull the bridge back pretty far??

and I look forward to more sound test

    Rob

  • you can indeed put passives in there. There are conversion pickuprings you can get. You could just leave the extra space there, or you could get a bass cover and put passives beneath it.

  • i had the same problem with pinch harmonics when i got my first 7 string.. its just practice and finding out where to hit the string.. very frustrating!!

    good review anyway

  • Thanks for the review, it's very helpful. Is the neck profile is more similar to an ESP C shape vs a wizard? I'm just paranoid that the neck is like a Schecter C-7 which felt like a boat paddle.

  • Definitely not trying to split hairs by saying this... But i wouldn't call it light or heavy, I'd call it extremely comfortable. It weighs in at 8.5 pounds. I've picked up a few basswood and ash guitars that I'd call freakishly light. And I have a Les Paul that seriously weighs as much as a car... But this guitar is just right... I think anyone would find it to be a desirable weight.

  • In regards to 6:20

There's a chance that your neck is too tight and is arching in a way that is bringing the strings closer to the frets. If that is a problem, I would try adjusting the truss rod by relieving some of the tension off of the neck.

  • Another factor may be your action; generally if you like to do bends on the high strings, then you'd want to have some distance between the strings and the frets so then you can get underneath the other strings when you're bending upwards. Judging by the fret buzz I've heard from when you're playing, it sounds like the action on that guitar is very low.

  • One other thing to consider is the scale length itself; I would imagine that a seven string made with a scale length of 27" was meant to go down further than the traditional B standard tuning. You could probably get that thing down to A standard and still have it sound good if you were willing to try it (and mess around with different string gauges of course).

That's my two cents, hope it helps.

  • And yea, the action is super, mega low. When plugged in I don't hear anything sizzling.. But when played unplugged the first fret on a couple strings certainly does buzz. Right now Im trying to figure out if the lower action is whats giving me trouble when going for pinch harmonics, or if its getting my right hand to keep the seven strings under control. Thanks for watching and leaving comments.. Ty...

  • Yea, what I was saying here is, as apposed to a 6 string guitar tuned down to Drop A, this guitar still has all the tension of a baritone guitar in standard tuning. So instead of the stings being slack from being tuned down, you still have to push them to get them to bend, because they still have all their tension.

  • im so glad im not the only person who plays agile more people need to play them i have a hornet ive had for 4 years and its never failed me

  • Thanks a ton for the info. Was most helpful. Awsome vid and it cleared up so many questions I had.

    Cheers

I'm sold on an Interceptor 25.5" Ebony board in black maple. Whats the B-Stock stuff?

  • Hey there, really glad the vid helped... All the time in guitar plants finishes get scratched, headstocks get nicked, etc. When this happens, Rondo puts out emails letting people know they have a "B-stock" instrument for sale. They list them individually at a discounted price and include a description of whats not perfect about it. Usually these guitars have nothing more wrong with them than what you'd do in 10 hours of play time. Thanks for watching, Ty...

  • Great information, thanks for posting the vid!

  • Thanks so much dude, this was extremely helpful. I'll definitely be looking into the Agile.

  • Well Im glad I could help man... I'd definitely recommend giving them a shot... keep your eyes peeled for their B-stock stuff too... Im seeing these guitars going all the time for $550.... With EMG 707's selling on eBay for over $100 each, the floyd, and ebony board; I'd say you're getting a pretty rad deal... Ty...
