  • "Vaffannapoli"?!?!? XD that's fun!!! but this is the first time I hear this, and i'm italian :D

  • @DafneSchezar it's cause in friends they're not allowed to say bad words even if is it in another language!.....vaffanc**o sarebbe stato troppo volgare per una sitcom così divertente! =D

  • @TheAlchena I know, but it's fun! we should use it too :D. Anche se penso che sarebbe offensivo per i napoletani...però mi ha fatto ridere come parola :D

  • @DafneSchezar ahahha no,anch'io ho pensato che si potrebbe usare però sarebbe stato troppo offensivo!(avevo pure pensato a VAFFANCUNEO che è più vicina alla parolaccia)....Però mi ha fatto ridere anche a me,sopratutto come lo dicono loro!! =D

  • @DafneSchezar Doens't actually mean anything, it's the fusion of "Vaffanculo"(Fuck you) and Napoli (the city, naples)

  • @Leucotrain of course I know that... i'm italian :)

  • @Leucotrain Well actually that was for everyone to read.

  • @DafneSchezar Penso, it is because the americans pay attention not to say rude words in television ;) So they canged the word a little bit and you can understand that it comes from Vaffanculo.

  • ahhhh us italians....hard to resist ;)

  • @cicciopanza2005

    Infatti, che stronzi..

  • @cicciopanza2005

Lo usano i sardi per quanto ne so io, come ci sia finito in un programma americano un termine usato solo in una regione io non lo so.

  • blblblbblblblblblblblbblblbl...

    wow Phoebe you understand Italian.

    Ummm I Guess

  • wow do i understand Italian?

    GUESS SO.... hohoohooh

  • WHAT HAPPENED WHAT HAPPENED?! YOU KISSED MY GIRLFRIEND! lol

  • VaffaNapoli doesn't exist in Italian...it's just to replace our rude word "vaffanculo" that means go to hell, fuck you, fuck off and so on....

  • this video is wonderful! in italy the translation is completely different (maybe because the characters already speak italian), and rachel's boyfriend in Italy is Spanish!

I'll watch friends again but in english.

(the word "vaffanapoli" doesn't exist, the right word change "napoli" (Naples) with "culo" (ass/butt)... it's a bit rude :)

  • what episode is this tho? :D

  • why vaffanapoli ? .-.

  • "vaffannapoli" sounds like "f#ck Neaples" (unpolite: like a NYer tells "shitty Kansas"?)

0:66 Io sono il numero uno (= I’m the number one)

1:00 Guarda la luna, guarda le stelle, guarda tutte le cose belle (= look the moon, look the stars, look everything is beautiful)

1:20 Scusa signora, vuole bere qualcosa? (excus'me, madame, "wanna" you drink something?)

1:21 Niente, grazie (= nothing, thanks!)

    1:22 Certo, lei è “ssino(r)ina” [wrong of “signorina”] (= exactly, you're a Miss [a young woman])

  • @renaato80 pretty sure she says "lei è si bellina" probably wanting to say "lei è bella" = you are pretty/beautiful

  • @TheFRIENDSCHITA im just gonna take a wild question r u Italian?

  • VAAFFFAAANNNAAAPPOLLII!!

  • joey and vafanapoli <3

  • hey i'm from naples...... are thy kidding us ?

  • @migopaghigo Essato! That's cussing Naples out. It's like saying, "Fuck Naples!". Allora, sai una coza? "Vaffa-NY!" Hehehe!

  • @migopaghigo I meant *cosa - spelled it wrong.

  • @migopaghigo

E' un termine usato in sardegna e non so perchè ci sia finito in una programma americano forse c'era qualche italiano (della sardegna)che li aiutava con le traduzioni.

  • @1:15 - 'Bravo' is no longer an Italian word, since everybody from around the world uses it.

  • @wahinesurfergirl this is just because is the easiest Italian word that the rest o f the world is able to learn...there are more other funny words!

  • @MocciMoccii I'm sure there are TONS more. I speak a little Italian as well, since I lived there for 5 months. My vocabulary may not be correct, but, at least I know a lot more Italian words, other than 'bravo'.

  • hahahahahah Ross imitating that Italian guy 1:08 is soo freaking hilarious!

  • Why Naples?

  • "Vaffanapoli" LOL

  • is fun .

  • I've heard "vaffanapoli" in Sardegna, where it's used by older people as a sort of self-censorship. I'm italian with sardinian parents (I understand some dialects of sardo, the language spoken in Sardegna), so trust my words ;-)

  • VaffaNapoli has no actual meaning.

It's funny anyway, maybe because I already live in Napoli.

  • Wow Phoebs you speak Italian?

    Guess so!

  • Vaffannapoli means "Go to Napoli" as most Italians se Napoli as a "hole" it basically means 'Go to hell'

  • @OllieJoya Actually, "vaffanculo" would be like, "fuck off". But, since the producer/director of Friends has a censored policy to not include cuss words, they had to use "vaffanapoli" instead, for the word, "vaffanculo". Hope I cleared that up for you.

  • oh god you guys get over the vaffannapoli thing, clearly joey is generally a "dumb" character, he's said a lot of random things and THIS you don't get? And obviously they wont swear either so he just uses this, it's funny and nobody cares that it's not in italian. Except obviously italians. But who cares what they think.

  • what does vaffanculo mean?

  • @perfectfiresky it's like FUCK OFF

  • @perfectfiresky FUCK OFF :p :p :p

  • @perfectfiresky or fuck you

  • @Marzikejinko it litterally means "go and get sodomized ";it is a contraction of "vai a fare in culo"->va' a fa' 'n culo=vaffanculo

  • Anyone know what Pheebs and HIs gran are saying? i wish i could speak italian but i dont understand it :( such a sexy language

  • @suckmybingowings

she said: "Excuse me, lady: Do you want something to drink? You're so cute."

  • @suckmybingowings The translation is correct, although Phoebe made a mistake, she should have said: Mi scusi, signora (courtesy form). By the way nobody would ever say "lei è sì bellina" to an old lady but only to a kid: "sei così bellina" you are so cute.

  • VAFFANAPOLI!

  • "Vaffa-Napoli" literally means go to Naples, as Naples is located in southern Italy, henceforth, Northern Italians sometimes use it to refer to the South which equals Hell

  • @MegaOllie101 sorry, but you wrong. that word does not exists in language. btw... funny

  • I live in Sardinia and it's actually quite common to say 'vaffannapoli'. It virtually has the same meaning as 'vaffanculo'.

  • its vaffanculo!

  • 'Wow! Phoebs, you speak Italian?'

    'I guess so!'

    hahahaaaaa!! :D

  • vaffannapoli ke cazzo vuol dire?

  • @TheDimpe non potevano mica dire vaffanculo... è una trasmissione per famiglie :- ) scherzi a parte, faceva più ridere vaffannapoli, proprio perchè errato, era linguaggio familiare a casa di Joey proprio per non dire la vera parolaccia. Tutti lo capiscono, vaffanculo.

  • VAFFANNAPOLI ???

  • maybe they wanted to hide the real word "vaffanculo" saying "vaffanapoli" because it doesn't make any sense!

  • matt is italian in a way so its normal he can speak some, but lisa's accent is great, such a smart woman

  • Comment removed

  • @pillz4you Excuse me miss... would you like to drink something? -Nothing, thanks -Beautiful lady...

  • Guarda la luna

    Guarda le stelle

    Guarda tutte le cose belle

    BELLOOOOO

  • "Guarda la luna, guarda le stelle, guarda tutte le cose belle"...nice, nice italian too.

  • @ciuffoZanetti4 ok ok XD :)

  • hahah 0:18

  • Vafancoulo

  • vaffan napoli? i'm italian and i've never heard of this..

  • @sandwichandguitarboy apparently, it's a less offensive version of "vaffanculo" or something. i'm not sure, i've only been studying the language for about 3 months

  • @sandwichandguitarboy Just not to say "vaffanculo" wich is a bad word...or not?

  • @Januacaeli yeah it is, but it's sounds better, vaffannapoli really sounds weird to me, hahaha :D

  • In the Italian version Paolo became Pablo from Spain!

  • Bravo is also Spanish.

  • vaffannapoli ? wtf is that...a censored version of "vaffanculo" ?

  • Comment removed

  • @narc0x va fa napoli...is the go hell of the italians who migrated to the usa...i don't rememmber if that was on the second world war

  • @narc0x Va Fa Napoli means go to hell

  • @narc0x Yes, I searched it and it seems to be a modification of it.

  • @narc0x yes ma not say what do you hear now

  • io dico tipo vaffancazzo

  • perchè vaffannapooli o.O non l'avevo mai sentito, essendo napoletana dovrei senirmi offesa, ma non ci riesco perchè amo troppo friends XD

  • 1:13 WTF "bravo" is also french

  • @Serpette94 exactly, "also", so is not wrong

  • @Serpette94 check it out on wikitionary

How can you even imagine BRAVO as a French world with all the problems you have with letter R?

In the same way, you could say that Bravo is English or Japanese just like "mouse" is Italian. Anyway it is a latin word

  • Hahahaha .. Si dice "vaffanculo".

  • "Vaffannapoli"?? WTF?? I' m italian and i didn' t ever say this word. ahahahaha

  • @MrCiuccioso

Però diciamo VaffanFrancia o vaffantredici :-)

  • @fidilio89

Ma un bel Vaffanculo non è più comodo e soddisfacente? ahahahaahh :-D

  • @MrCiuccioso it's like saying "fuckyork eh"

  • @TheTachomacho

    Ahahahahah!!! yees!!

  • @MrCiuccioso yes, i'm sure you don't but they can't cuss on the tv, so they changed the ending part... :D Brilliant!

  • @MrCiuccioso It's a polite way to say vaffanculo ( fuck you ) ;-)

  • @MrCiuccioso It's actually just "Fa Napoli" which actually just means 'go to Naples" but sounds like an insult when said the way Joey did. hahaha

  • @MrCiuccioso Haha anche io sono italiana e non ho mai sentito questa parola ^^

  • @MrCiuccioso Probably because it's in a different dialect. Maybe it's Neopolitan.

  • @Concetta20

Impossible! I live in Naples. Ahahahahah!! Probably is a dialect of North italy :-D

  • Vaffannapoli haauaahauaha oddio, da oggi lo userò SEMPRE

  • un mio ex collega di lavoro di Frosinone diceva sempre MA VAFFAFREGA VA! Ora lo uso sempre anche io quando non voglio essere troppo volgare :)

  • vaffannapoli è stupendo. Lo adotterò anche io d'ora in poi.

  • It's not Vaffanapoli, but VAFFANCULO!

  • vaffanapoli doesn't exist ... you have to say vaffanculo

  • si dice vaffanculo non vaffanapoli because if you say it it's like you'd say fuck san francisco

  • ma k cazzo è vaffanapoli con quello strano gesto abbinato k fanno??..madonna hanno sbagliato tutto dalla parola al gesto:(

    informarsi meglio No?????!!!

  • Joey: "Wowpheobe you speak Italien?"

    Pheobe: "I guess so.!"

Hhahah I so Love Pheobe. I a lot ways she's really clever and other wayz she's so dumb but funny xD

  • Jealous Ross.

  • lei si imbelina? ma è zenese!!!

  • @sandrodream1 or maybe they just didn't want to curse.

  • Bravo comes from the Italian opera meaning of brave, but later it meant " Great" in other foreign language. Spanish and French also took this word and made it part of their language.

  • @TheJsamayoa: well.. "brave" has a quite different meaning. Bravo is used, as you rightly said, in opera to make appreciation, because BRAVO in the Italian language means good, skillfull, capable, while "BRAVE" is more like intrepid, which is closer to the spanish BRAVO. In my opinion the italian definition in this contest, is more appropriate. Moreover in latin "pravus" had a meaning which was not that good, the italians adopted its good acceptation while spanish its rough ones

  • bravo is french...i think

  • @Live4TV22 bravo is an italian word...

  • joey que hermoso habla italiano <3

  • that guy looks indian, Italians are not like that LOL

  • @8gighen9 He doesn't look Indian at all. He looks like he has olive skin which matches a Mediterranean look.

  • @8gighen9 of course look like italian guy, also look spanish..

  • @leamidiag italians and spanishs are mainly caucasians like french germans and most of europeans, so if he looks italian he looks german or french too

  • @8gighen9 pffff thats a lie the most italian and spanish that I know look like him.... in germany sweden and that countrys yeha they look more like european caucasians whites with blue eyes!!! remember spain was invaded by arabs dont forget that!!!

  • @leamidiag yea i know that spain and south italy were invaded by arabs but spain, italy, germany etc are nations not races, im talkin of the most part of italy and spain ppl not about minority race groups, and most of italians and spanishs are caucasians if u see difference , these are in culture or climate and in the lower presence of nordics, considering the stereotypes germans (caucasians) are spanish with redder skin because of beer and colder climate, and spanish are tanned germans

  • @8gighen9 indians don't look like that

  • @sandrodream1 Vaffanapoli is quite common in some parts of Italy! Io l'ho sempre sentito

  • uahauhuah vaffanapoli lo dicevo quando ero piccolo / I said Vaffanapoli when I was a kid

  • "Vaffannapoli" exists in Italian! I've heard it so many times from my Sardinian relatives... XD

  • Vaffannapoli is clearly more a way of censoring themselfes. We do that too here in Italy, but with different words. The important thing in the end is just to cut out "...culo" and put something less vulgar in it's place.

I never heard vaffannapoli, but I heard vaffanCina (for example)....or vaffaignocchi ("go and make some gnocchi" :-))

  • but vaffanapoli does not exist in italian! lol

  • I'm Italian and I never listen Vaffanapoli! It must to be an invenction of americans

  • Bravo?? Thtat's Spanish too.
