  • I love this movie!

  • thank you

  • One of my best moments was reading the hobit to my kids. Then we watched the 1977 movie and loved listening to the ballads sung by Glenn.

One good book plus one good movie plus one good song = a memory I will never forget.

  • Holy crap! I've been looking for this forever! Thank you for posting it

  • This is so beautiful. It just makes me happy listening to it. now i have to find the movie.

  • This is what happens when you sing while sitting in a massage chair.

  • @DORproductions117 lol truth

  • I discovered Glenn Yarbrough, and The Limeliters' music after hearing these songs in '77. Love his voice.

  • as much as I love The Hobbit animated movie,I don't think Jacksons remakes will have that quaility to them, people will watch it for Smaug being epic, dwarves killing goblins, not traipsing through sun kissed meadows singing ballads of mirth and such.

  • @bloodsling that's why I think in a lot of ways the Rankin-Bass animated series does more justice to the SPIRIT of Tolkien's works than the Jackson movies do. Too bad they didn't have the license for the first 2 books and the resources Jackson had when he made the movies. Not that the movies are bad by any stretch of the imagination...but somehow they don't quite touch the magic of the books in the way these cartoons do. Just my opinion.

  • @Cancrizans thumbs up to you, sir. quite right. Rankin-Bass had a way of revealing a sort of magic that no one else has ever been able to equal. Especially in regards to the Hobbit, which, in my mind, never felt as epic as the Lord of the Rings. I love the recent trilogy, but, like you, i sometimes think Tolkien would have approved more of the original cartoon Hobbit than the epic trilogy....

  • @Cancrizans

I did love Jackson's movies but I agree with you completely. Tolkien's books have a great deal of songs in them and the Rankin-Bass movies captured this very important facet that was missing in the movies in addition to a certain innocence and sweetness that was conveyed in the written works.

You are spot on with that assessment, Cancrizans!

  • Sounds like "It's So Easy Not To Try". But good though.

  • @SongsJerome the its so easy not to try version is return of the king. Roads go ever ever on is the hobbit version. Both made by the same company, and so the song you mentioned is the continuation.

  • @fantasyrulestheworld LOl I know that already. Rankin/ Bass music does sound the same, sometimes.

  • nobody ever makes fun of glen yarlbrough.

    Not even trolls and anonymous.

    He's such a great guy.

  • When I watched this movie a few months ago i said to myself, "DAMN! Is this guy just good with Middle age songs. Or did they hire a real bard!??!?!

  • I like this song alot. The animated hobbit movies are my fav movies to watch

  • This is my favorite version of this song. These words have been put to many different tunes, but this one sounds exactly how I imagine the Shire folk would sing it.

  • did this guy do the intro song to McLintock! ? i cant put my finger on it but it sure sounded like it

  • @RPGfanatic100

yes. his group the Limelighters did the intro. The Limelighters and Glenn himself as a solo artist did a lot of movie intros.

  • @gamewizard nice, thx by the way

  • i will never forget the first time i saw the animated The Hobbit -- Glenn's music absolutely made the movie. Thanks for the memories Glenn.

  • OOOHHH!!! This is from the original ANIMATED VERSION of the Hobbit that came out before I had a thinking mind!! This brings back such memories! Thank yoU!!

  • Roads go ever on, original soundtrack from the Hobbit, its lovley, 110% soulhiting!

  • I am NOT one of those whiny girly girls who has to grab a tissue when she watches movies, but this song brings me nearly to tears every time I hear it.

  • @mrsbonniemoore

HEY! Just cause I happen to have sensitive tear ducts, doesn't make me "whiny"...hehe

  • @LemonadeLaura LOL! ;) I'd never call you whiny! I was actually kinda thinking of one of my sisters. **ducks** >:D

  • @mrsbonniemoore , haha! That's awesome :P

  • Oh spirits grant me the power to finally go somewhere..and yet i am.....

  • Glenn has such a powerful & unique voice. Glad to hear he's still going strong. His "Baby the Rain Must Fall" is one of my all-time favorite tunes. THANKS so much for sharing this delightful gem with us. May you & yours have your HAPPIEST holiday season ever! :)

  • Overwhelming feeling, like coming home

  • Ever since I saw The Hobbit as a kid, this guy's voice has captivated me. XD He's such a beautiful singer... He can really catch ones heart with his singing.

  • Agreed! I too found his voice memorable from The Hobbit. Some think the songs corny from that animation- but I loved the music in that animation.

Would love to hear a raw recording of the alternate lyrics to this melody from The Return of the King. I think I read somewhere that Mr. Yarbrough wrote that version.

  • I really like this song & I love the cartoon hobbit movies

  • Great song, such talent. it makes me soooo happy listening to it. i hope they add this song the the 2011 and 2012 movie!!!!! The Hobbits Rocks my socks lol

  • @KingElrohir They ought to, it was in the book.

  • @KingElrohir

They won't use it, due to copyrights. However, it's almost certain they will use a song with the same lyrics. This is because the words are in the book, and songs are a big part of The Hobbit. In fact, the version that of this song in TLotR books was used in the movies, though that has a slightly different metre and is shorter. But that Glenn Yarbrough's version would appear in the movies? Don't try your luck.

  • @KingElrohir I actually hope not. This don't give me a flick of feeling that reminds me of the Middle-earth universe, in any of it's cultures. It doesn't fit at all. Then again I haven't seen the original the Hobbit movie, but I've read the book and most of Tolkien's work.
