Since 1984 i thik about them like a leader for hard core and social oriented band, off course they was not commercial music, but i love them this way!!!
I remember when I first heard this on the radio on my way to some stupid gig......stopped me dead in my tracks....so different....so good. The summer season does not officially start until I turn up my guitar and play along.
I was in a nightclub called Spiders on my 20th birthday and I asked the dj to play this. She sort of grimaced and started shaking her head. I asked her if there was a problem, she said no problem...but i was just about to play this, she directed my attenion to Makes No Sense At All already lined up on the decks. But its my birthday i whined....so i got Makes No Sense At All and Celebrated Summer back to back. Thank you Sonya I will always remember Hull 1991 :)
I've been looking for a reasonably priced Ibanez RocketRoll Flying V guitar for years. I think that because of Bob Mould, they have become collectible and are priced pretty high. Bob's Ibanez is a very important part of Punk Rock history.
This song is great, altough I really don't like the production on this album. The distorted guitar sound almost ruins some of the songs, in my opinion.
Flip Your Wig was a good album. But I like all of them in a different way. Always had a soft spot for this three-man band from my hometown! :-) (Thx for posting)
When I first heard this on the radio it jumped from the car speaker and slapped my ass and punched me in the face!!!!.....I always listen to this when summer begins and hope something new will hit the"airwaves" and make me feel the way this song does
@carnage911 i never said you weren't bright ya nincompoop. and what did i say for you to think i'm not bright? you've seen 15 words that i've written, well, excluding these... so congrats on coming to your shallow conclusions based on such limited info. REDNECK!
@roejogan8 Never said that you implied that; though two people have "bite" from my comment. They aren't shallow, that really doesnt make any sense in this case, but they do reflect your inability to get a joke and argue properly.
@carnage911 by saying who cares if they're gay?? that makes me brighter than you because i'm a forward thinking person who accepts people as they are. you're ignorant. i support gays and i hate people that are homophobic. and they are shallow, it makes perfect sense in this case. although they are more ignorant and just plain stupid rather than shallow. so you were joking? sounded dead serious to me you dim-witted hillbilly. ride your tractor bitch!
@roejogan8 Ha you are so dense. It has nothing to do with "hating gays" nor being ignorant. It is to show the juxtaposition of the word "Tits", which in this case used in terms to describe how good the song is, when the band in fact has two gay members, of whom would be the last people that would want their songs to be referred to in that way. Its really not that hard to see, but then again, this is youtube. Ha what a sod.
Me too! Funny that, eh? My favourite Huskers album along with 'Metal Circus' & 'Zen Arcade'. The only one I don't like is 'Candy Apple Grey'. Anybody with me on that one, is that album overrated or what?
@roejogan8 "Very good" maybe, but not great. 'Hardly Getting Over It' sounds great on the live set 'The Living End' though...in fact, all of the songs sound great on that album. It's a widely acknowledged fact that they never got the production right in the studio. Having never seen them live I can appreciate just how good they were listening to that collection.
@AlternativeMarco The whole album's a bit too flatly pop/ballad orientated for my personal tastes, and has terrible production, although I do like 'Eiffel Tower High', and the version of 'Hardly Getting Over It' recorded live on the Warners posthumous 'Living End' album is immense. 'Warehouse' is too long and a bit patchy, but personally I think it's a better album.
@AlternativeMarco Zen Arcade is definitely the best, but, (my personal taste again of course), I would have it up there as joint best with 'Metal Circus' and 'New Day Rising'. The holy trinity of Minneapolis noise pop.
@Jigfm Yup. I owned the CD for years before reading the liner notes properly and realising that it was in fact a compilation of dates from the final 1987 tour and not a document of one single gig. A first class live album and I reckon any gig on that tour would have been a helluva night! The version of 'Divide and Conquer' on there also shreds!
@spuffchops70 yeah...it's the dog biscuit of their whole catalog if you will, that being said, peter buck of r.e.m. said "any album by husker du is the best album of the 80s', so...
no way. Candy apple rocks. Too far down followed by Hardly getting over it is the best two Bob songs (in a row) it beats Good Idea / Changes...it sets the tone for all of bobs later works (oh wait that was 20 years ago...anyhow) Candy apple Grey is a stunning album. The second best after Beaster. Then New Day, the flip your wig...wait..no...all of it is stunning...maybe not some nova mob...2541 is a quality track though
@101misanthrope Eiffel Tower High and Crystal are great tracks too, so is Sorry Somehow. I just didn't like Dead Set On Destruction, No Promise I've Made and All This I've Done For You. The rest of it is fantastic.
