  • Since 1984 i thik about them like a leader for hard core and social oriented band, off course they was not commercial music, but i love them this way!!!

  • I remember when I first heard this on the radio on my way to some stupid gig......stopped me dead in my tracks....so different....so good. The summer season does not officially start until I turn up my guitar and play along.

  • Greatest song of all time. Indisputable. That is all.

  • Played this song for more than one person. One guy said that he doesn't like this type of music but it's the best of itskind he'd ever heard.

    How can you not dance?

  • Best. Album cover. Ever.

  • beautiful lyrics...used to listen to this on the bus to work in burger king lol

  • Right.

I'm off for a skate, listening to this.

See you all in a bit.

  • then.

    the sun.

    disintegrates.

    behind.

    a wall.

    of clouds.

  • @davidfregoli I summer

    where I winter at

    and no one

    is allowed

    there

  • who would dislike this song?

  • I was in college when this album came out. NDR, Zen Arcade and Flip Your Wig were the most brilliant releases of the 1980s,

  • @rhubbard1821 Along with Double Nickels on the Dime. Gotta tip my hat to Minutemen. RIP D. Take 5.

  • Maybe the best song ever. Certainly the best Husker song. Got the t-shirt, still 47 years young....

  • Fuck, I need a Husker Du T-shirt. Show the world that this 47-year-young man is never out of date...

  • @hoibsh I've got a Husker Du t-shirt, coming from a 13 year-super-young kid.

  • I have said that so many Husker Du songs are the best song ever that I long ago lost count. But once again, this is the best song ever.

  • This song is a powerful ally. (No Yoda jokes, please)

  • Maybe? THIS IS THE BEST SONG EVER!

I want to find the girl who believes this... We're getting married ...I hope.

  • I was in a nightclub called Spiders on my 20th birthday and I asked the dj to play this. She sort of grimaced and started shaking her head. I asked her if there was a problem, she said no problem...but i was just about to play this, she directed my attenion to Makes No Sense At All already lined up on the decks. But its my birthday i whined....so i got Makes No Sense At All and Celebrated Summer back to back. Thank you Sonya I will always remember Hull 1991 :)

  • best song ever. ever

  • This song gives me goosebumps!

  • Bob Mould is a genius. I am so glad that my uncle got me into these guys.

  • Heard this for the first time on KALX fm Berkeley 1985

  • I've been looking for a reasonably priced Ibanez RocketRoll Flying V guitar for years. I think that because of Bob Mould, they have become collectible and are priced pretty high. Bob's Ibanez is a very important part of Punk Rock history.

  • Go on Bob grind those chords to dust.

  • Best song ever written...FACT....Bob Mould/ Husker Du are genius.

  • This song is great, altough I really don't like the production on this album. The distorted guitar sound almost ruins some of the songs, in my opinion.

  • @Stranglehold432 ...listen louder... : )

  • whoa

  • Maybe it is the best song ever.

  • Heard an interview with Bob Mould on CBC, he seemed like a really fascinating guy. He made some good music in the 80's too it sounds like.

  • Flip Your Wig was a good album. But I like all of them in a different way. Always had a soft spot for this three-man band from my hometown! :-) (Thx for posting)

  • i saw bob mould do this song with his backing band a few years ago. i fucking lost it. incredible song, incredible band.

  • Pure Genious.

  • @lizardale "a little bit overrated"??? First time i come across this statement...well, hey. You like what you like :) eh?

  • Best band ever. Flipping awesome.

  • look kids it's a good band!

  • THE greatest song. ever.

  • When I first heard this on the radio it jumped from the car speaker and slapped my ass and punched me in the face!!!!.....I always listen to this when summer begins and hope something new will hit the"airwaves" and make me feel the way this song does

  • Possibly one of the best songs in the whole wide world...Bob you are genius..:)

  • I don't listen to todays music much these days not because I'm an old fart, I don't listen to today's music because it sucks.

  • I want to steal Bob's guitar skills.

  • @StraightPunkEdge93 you wouldn't be the first!

  • WOOOOW NO ONE DISLIKE THIS SONG!!!!!!!

  • the first seconds.... oh man, something EPIC is coming....

  • This remains one of my all time favorite tunes to this day.

  • This IS the greatest song anyone has written I think

  • I just noticed that we add an hour in fall, not spring

  • such a beautiful song with the lyrics and stuff

  • so great the lyrics are added.

  • incredible song one of the best ive ever heard

  • It is.

  • the guitar solo changed my life

  • @Jigfm

    mine too many years ago

  • dynamic.post hardcore done right......

  • my father likes that song, and he doesnt like punk music at all...thats right there is an indication for how much this song rocks.

  • Still Awsome... Bought years ago (1990 or so i think) still play it now. Think this was one of the best records that Spot produced...

  • Love Bob Mould's voice.

  • this song was subconsciously stuck in my head all summer.

  • Too bad 2/3 of the band is gay because this song is so tits

  • @carnage911 how is that a problem?

  • @megafudgocav its a problem when one can not tell when another person is joking...

  • @carnage911 who cares if they're gay you hillbilly.

  • @roejogan8 You're not too bright, either

  • @carnage911 i never said you weren't bright ya nincompoop. and what did i say for you to think i'm not bright? you've seen 15 words that i've written, well, excluding these... so congrats on coming to your shallow conclusions based on such limited info. REDNECK!

  • @roejogan8 Never said that you implied that; though two people have "bite" from my comment. They aren't shallow, that really doesnt make any sense in this case, but they do reflect your inability to get a joke and argue properly.

  • @carnage911 by saying who cares if they're gay?? that makes me brighter than you because i'm a forward thinking person who accepts people as they are. you're ignorant. i support gays and i hate people that are homophobic. and they are shallow, it makes perfect sense in this case. although they are more ignorant and just plain stupid rather than shallow. so you were joking? sounded dead serious to me you dim-witted hillbilly. ride your tractor bitch!

  • @roejogan8 Ha you are so dense. It has nothing to do with "hating gays" nor being ignorant. It is to show the juxtaposition of the word "Tits", which in this case used in terms to describe how good the song is, when the band in fact has two gay members, of whom would be the last people that would want their songs to be referred to in that way. Its really not that hard to see, but then again, this is youtube. Ha what a sod.

  • maybe the best song ever?

  • @AlMilanoMusic

Or one of my top 50 at least!

  • @AlMilanoMusic maybe

  • @AlMilanoMusic of course, are you crazy? it's obvious!!! LONG LIVE HUSKER DU

  • @AlMilanoMusic not maybe... ;-)

  • Brilliant. And towards the end the vocal disintergates behind a wall of noise. Thank you Ross for introducing them to me back in the 80s.

  • Me too! Funny that, eh? My favourite Huskers album along with 'Metal Circus' & 'Zen Arcade'. The only one I don't like is 'Candy Apple Grey'. Anybody with me on that one, is that album overrated or what?

  • @spuffchops70 not with you. it's a very good album.

  • @roejogan8 "Very good" maybe, but not great. 'Hardly Getting Over It' sounds great on the live set 'The Living End' though...in fact, all of the songs sound great on that album. It's a widely acknowledged fact that they never got the production right in the studio. Having never seen them live I can appreciate just how good they were listening to that collection.

  • @spuffchops70 Listen to Sorry Somehow from Candy Apple Grey... It isn't their best record but it's amazing anyway...

  • @AlternativeMarco The whole album's a bit too flatly pop/ballad orientated for my personal tastes, and has terrible production, although I do like 'Eiffel Tower High', and the version of 'Hardly Getting Over It' recorded live on the Warners posthumous 'Living End' album is immense. 'Warehouse' is too long and a bit patchy, but personally I think it's a better album.

  • @spuffchops70 Well there are a lot of pop ballad, sure... It's a matter of taste, that's all :) the best I think is zen arcade...

  • @AlternativeMarco Zen Arcade is definitely the best, but, (my personal taste again of course), I would have it up there as joint best with 'Metal Circus' and 'New Day Rising'. The holy trinity of Minneapolis noise pop.

  • @spuffchops70 hardly gettin over it from the living end is definitely one of their best recordings ever

  • @Jigfm Yup. I owned the CD for years before reading the liner notes properly and realising that it was in fact a compilation of dates from the final 1987 tour and not a document of one single gig. A first class live album and I reckon any gig on that tour would have been a helluva night! The version of 'Divide and Conquer' on there also shreds!

  • @spuffchops70 yeah...it's the dog biscuit of their whole catalog if you will, that being said, peter buck of r.e.m. said "any album by husker du is the best album of the 80s', so...

  • @spuffchops70 for me Candy Apple Grey is more intimate and very depressive album

  • @spuffchops70 What the hell are you talking about? Husker Du doesn't have anything underrated.

  • @spuffchops70 Overrated I meant to say.

  • no way. Candy apple rocks. Too far down followed by Hardly getting over it is the best two Bob songs (in a row) it beats Good Idea / Changes...it sets the tone for all of bobs later works (oh wait that was 20 years ago...anyhow) Candy apple Grey is a stunning album. The second best after Beaster. Then New Day, the flip your wig...wait..no...all of it is stunning...maybe not some nova mob...2541 is a quality track though

  • @101misanthrope: you're a fan, then?

  • @101misanthrope Eiffel Tower High and Crystal are great tracks too, so is Sorry Somehow. I just didn't like Dead Set On Destruction, No Promise I've Made and All This I've Done For You. The rest of it is fantastic.

  • @TheTrainRex

    as a friend once said

songs are (art in general is) made for

the ones that love and understand them

not for the ones that dont :)

  • @spuffchops70 I don't think it was overrated. It seems that everyone's general consensus is that it blows.

  • top ten songs ever

  • this is one of my favorite songs. thank you, lizardale.

  • @Skullrik One of my favourite songs too, New Day Rising is an amazing album.

  • @Skullrik whoa, this is weird, it is one of my favourite songs too!
