  • Thanks for sharing this..enjoyed listening to it very much!

  • OMB thnks for the fwd - certainly v interesting. as per some of the other commentators i agree seems to be "fat free" ie somehwat lighter. also does seem to meander a bit and lack direction

  • Hmm, I like parts of this even better than the revised edition. It's much lighter in character, though.

  • also, i think this version makes Sibelius sound like he doesn't know where hes going with the piece. so many ideas.

  • im sure many violinists prefer the second because that's what we grew up learning. but what if we had not and this was Sibelius concerto. I really how popular it would have been, or not so popular maybe. who knows. this is very interesting.

  • Thanks Ironmagma!!! its wonderful to listen sibelius first´s versión. Would you share with us the second movement?

  • buy the record for god's shake!I think the whole 1st movement is more than enough....

  • Self advertisement ... huh huh.

I have to give you my thanks for being able to bring us the original version. It is really a symphonic poem featuring a solo vioiln. It is beautiful!

In my opinion the "nationalism" aspect of this piece shows up much more clearly in this version. I could almost see the anguish of the Finnish people with this piece, much more so than "Finlandia".

  • I'm not Him!I wish i was!I just think that masterpieces like this and especially in classical music (that doesnt "sell" so much) we ought to buy the good discs!

  • i hate to break it to you but im a cheap bastard

btw this is on limewire tho if you look hard enough you'll find it

  • some parts in this version are better then the newer version... such as at 9:15-9:32

  • The orchestra is the Lahti Symphony Orchestra; recording was made in 1991.

  • Well, is very interesting, but I prefer the last version.

    Anyway, is a great document.

    Congratulations

  • bravo ironmagma!Let everyone admire the concerto they way the composer conceived.
