  • Im15 and one of their records

  • Sound man... Turn up the steel guitar!

  • Best weed song ever!

  • Saw this NRPS lineup in NJ in 2005 and again in Lake Worth, FL in 2007. Voices are mostly shot and Buddy has had chronic tuning problems with his custom steels but musically these guys still JAM!!!

  • @ronsadaka I also went to that lake Worth show over on J street. Not the same band without Marmaduke. I miss doing shots with Him at The Musicians Exchange in the early 90s before several shows.

  • Sadly, McDuke died almost exactly a year ago.

There is a real shortage of true NRPS videos with the lineups from the 1970's, on YouTube.

    He is missed.

  • Narrer neck jar n' a washin bo'wd be alrahht heah huh paw ! Love the composition & reminds me sooo much of what I've seen of the Cajun Shufftle. Not meaning to offend anyone & maybe I have which is not my intention. This style bangs me gong - truly. May have geography & areas wrong for the styles of music in the States.

  • you talkin bout the 420 show? i fuckin missed it

  • damn. sounds wonderful. Im jealous!

  • hahahaha orange sunshine... can't remember seeing NRPS ... hahaha ... wait, damn, I can't remember either..... but ya I was told I had a great time!!

They used to play a song called Old Man Knoll...... anyone know it or better yet have it to share?

  • From the 1974 album 'Brujo'. Used to have it, but have 'What a mighty time' on vinyl instead.

  • this song is not from brujo it from first album n.r.p.s.

  • I was replying to stoned123456 about old man knoll. That was on Brujo. Henry was on the first LP with Jerry Garcia vice Buddy Cage on pedal steel.

  • The last time I saw New Riders was....... I can't remember, but I was told by some friends that we had a really great time.

  • yea

  • I recently saw them like a week ago it was awesome

  • this friday...great american music hall in grand ol san francisco!!!!!!! see ya at the front of the stage ! wear your dancin shoes........

  • saw NRPS once recently for free at high falls, NY and they played all the greats.

You cant go wrong with psychedelic country!

  • these guys play all the time these days..nelson,cage with peter sears....sorry to say but Cage looks shot on some nights....still a great show...

  • henry, he got wasted, couldn't even see. I love that leasd guitar playin' with all the bending. new riders kick but

  • That's Professor Louie on the accordion of Professor Louie and the Cromatix aka Aaron Hurwitz who also produced David Nelson Band albums, and albums for The Band..

  • Am I imagining it, or did I see these guys circa 1980 all dressed in cowboy suits? Was that just a "faze" for them?

  • i saw them with my buddy Sean in Westbury. It was a killer show. Dave Mason headlined it with NRPS starting out. NRPS did SO MUCH BETTER. Dave was ok, but i was singing this and Panama Red for a month.

  • and still am

  • John Dawson has emphysema and can no longer play with the band, but he's still alive far as I know

It's a shame this band never got more popular, they had some good stuff.

  • funny, it's been 30 freakin' years and I still know every word to this song!! Love em!

  • Cage is still alive. I saw him with Nelson and the boys a couple years ago. John Dawson is still alive also. He's not in the band because of "ailing health." Dave Torbert, the original bassist, died in 1982. The two guys I saw filling in for their respective spots did a fine job on both vocals and playing. Being a youngun myself, I was not around to see them in the 70s. My dad did though, and he will say to this day that the times he saw them, then and now, were the best shows he's ever been to.

  • I spoke with Buddy Cage and David Nelson in December at the show posted above, and both are alive and well. Michael, the rhythm guitarist, plays with Hot Tuna as well.

  • The first time I saw them, they opened for the Dead with Garcia on peddle steel and Spencer Dryden (sp?) on drums.

We were sitting in front at Winterland and I stood up to see.

I thought I was hallucinating 'cause they all looked like they were 3' tall. One pill makes you larger and one pill.... Ah....what fun.

  • First time I saw them, they opened for Hot Tuna at the great highway. The show didn't let out till 6 am. So wasted couldn't even see.

  • @knockavaddera I saw them in 1971, but can't remember where for obvious reasons ;-) Garcia was in rare form! I DO remember that! Sure miss the old days sometimes.

  • buddy cage is still alive saw him with the riders numerous time in the 70's at thje capitol theater in passaic N.J.

  • you wont hear the originals cause they are dead...all except for david nelson there on guitar...dave torbet died in the late 80's and the singer on most of their classics (including this one)died about 5 years ago

  • Love this band. Always have. That style has become popular again, and I hope to hear more from the original Lonesome LA Cowboys.
