I agree. This song is not a direct lift but seems inspired from la valse d' amelie.

Parts of Vishal's song in Kaminey (Dhan tanan) was inspired too (from Pulp fiction's background score).

Another song from the movie (Ibn-e-batuta) Gulzar's lyrics are inspired from a hindi poem written by Sarweshwar Dayal Saxena.

Every time I listen this song it's give me feel of song "Dil Ki Nazar Se" from 1959 "Anari" movie, the way harmony part coming in starting and the starting part its seems like inspired from that song.
