@Gauchoo1234 Two divisions of French troops held off the German army long enough for British and French troops to be evacuated to England at the cost of their own freedom. And the RAF lost 474 planes preventing the Luftwaffe from succeeding in it's mission (the Luftwaffe lost only about 132 aircraft). Not to mention the Royal and French Navies doing what they could to assist in the evacuation, at least nine destroyers were sunk and another nineteen damaged. Hitler didn't let them escape.

Hitler personally knew the area and knew that it is terrible terrain for tanks, Goring stated that the the BEF could be destroyed by the Luftwaffe instead, so that was the decision, allow the infantry to catch up to the panzers and destroy the BEF through air attack.It was the wrong decision. It was not an act of mercy.

Check the year after year weather patterns for The English channel in late May. What are the chances that both relatively calm waters, allowing small boats to cross and heavy fog would set in JUST at this time of year, right at Dunkirk and JUST long enough to keep the Nazis from wiping out the BEF? Could the evacuation have been made possible by a higher force?

The Nazi war economy really took off after France was taken whit its factory ( France was taken whitout their factory being annihilated ) The war in Russia was a production war and the Nazi managed to keep up even while being bombarded non stop from England take that out of the picture and they would have win maybe not by 1945 but by 1955 perhaps.

Adolf Hitler agreed and this decision stopped Guderian cutting off the escape of the British and French troops from Dunkirk.

My Grandad was in the 51st Highland Division. The men they left behind, 40,000Scottish soldiers endured death marches to Germany and Poland. My grandad never spoke much about it. Poor research from the producers. Anyway great footage. Thanks for posting

The proportion of the 51st HD (152nd and 153rd Brigades) were captured at the town of St. Valery en Caux on 12th June, 8 days after Dunkirk. The conditions at sea were bad and the men couldn't be evacuated, heavily outnumbered and ill equiped over 8,000 Highlanders and men from attached units surrendered, 2 1/2 hours after their French Allies. My grandfather was one of them. Try reading Bill Innes's "St. Valery The impossible odds" or Saul David's "Churchills sacrfice if the Highland Division"
