  • Kept the speed perfect all the way though! NICE. :D

  • i did this solo for FBA solo and ensamble and im going to state with it :D great job

  • wow he played that and he's not even asian

  • the sheet music i have plays it differently... where did you get yours from

  • @MrJugglingAddict I have no idea what sheet music he was using. I'm not the musician :) This gentleman was in the flute section of the school band with me, but he also did a lot of percussion and other things. I have no idea what he's up to now, but I believe he was involved in a youth orchestra.

  • try to play chromatic that fast

  • man...its simple only chromatics...-.-...

  • Its not actually, for the most part it is but it makes it very hard to learn because you have to memorize it, you can look at the intervals. Its also quite fast and at that speed with constant notes it takes a lot of skill to actually hit the right notes.

  • @drummerErikK the chromatics arent hard but the speed and endurance is hard

  • holy shit that is epic

  • this guy is good

  • give this guy a medal seriously...

  • great job! I'm just learning this song on marimba and at a slow tempo its not too hard but when you get fast its pretty crazy.

  • nice one!!!

  • *jaws drop open* *faint* *****

  • Holy crap-I can play this on piano-but

    xylyphone!!! this is ridicuosly awesome!!

    WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

  • Marimba. GTFO.

  • its not the hardest song in the world but its definately a chops buster

  • i'm so proud that the marimba is my national instrument

  • I like the audience.

    Full of chicks.

  • that'd be the band.

  • lol. nice one.

  • That was absolutely amazing:D I play marimba and percussion

  • sterritt kicked ass that night... and i see mr b!!!

god we miss him..may have to go back and visit the old music dept soon

  • Wow.. bad ass!! I only wish I could have played mallets that well. Very impressive.

  • And Mrs B playing the piano?

  • Do i see Mr B?

  • Yes indeed :P

  • where did you get your tie?

  • That tie is one of the ties of the school- part of the uniform.

  • whoa... marimba idol winner lol... but really u rock

  • hahahahhaahahaha

  • That goes so fast

  • kik ass player!!

  • It's chromatics people! Nevertheless, great accuracy and excellent tempo control ;)

  • Lol, thats crazy!

  • omg! fucking crazy! he makes it look so easy, but i can never keep up with that. imso jealous!

  • Wow, amazing accuracy! I'm very impressed.

  • can't you play this on four?

  • wow!

i play marimba and xylophone reallly would love to be that good. going to try and learn czardas soon, which seems a doddle compared to that lol!

  • nice! i enjoyed it!

  • haha doode this guy knows his stuff

  • what are you talking about unless you play with mallets not made for the instrument or just have a weird on their is little to no rebound and he did really good

  • dude xylo has ridiculous rebound if you use hard ass mallets.

and i dunno about you, but i get some good rebound off of vibes too. I will agree that marimba gets the best though.

  • eww...whats that smell??

OH YA I KNOW WHAT IT IS!!!

    JEALOUSY PERHAPS...

  • yeah i've been playing mallets for a while now and xylo's had a crazy amount of rebound. the other mallets like marimba and vibes have a fair amount but for the most part xylo has the best rebound.

  • i like.

  • Really it's not very hard if you just practise enough! I played that when I was thirteen years old...

  • oh please....

  • yeah its a very easy song if you can move your hands that fast

  • this isn't as hard as it looks. i played this for contest and i got near 9th. don't get me wrong, it's still very hard and he did great performing it, so good job on that.

  • pretty good

  • eso es una mariconada, que hacen los maricones

    mas rapido joder

  • i'll disagree...but that's still pretty hilarious comment.

  • id kinda have to go with him. i can do my chromatic too.

  • previous comment directed to SJdoak

  • holy shit dude, u got some seriously mad skills

  • holy shit man! how the heck.. wow. thats fast! and u did pretty good w/ tempo. MANY KUDOS!

  • uhm. it's alright. try working on steady tempo, and not missing sections of runs though.

  • are you kidding? A thats a really hard thing and thats mad skills B. it dosent really matter much if you fudge a bit as long as you keep going and play it off no one will care. its not like everyone the score and will be like "aww he missed that part of the run"

  • That was amazing.

    I'm so jealous.

I think I'm going to work on playing that song.

    You are SO good.

    Good work.

    ^_^

  • Great job! Keep up the good work.

  • and i hate your tie :) that was just a joke... actually was not but i know it s not so important.. :)

  • come on... u know u didn t do good... i know everybody will "boo" me but i mean i m percuissionist... and u are too... we both know it s not awsome ... u don t keep same tempo.. u have wrong malllets... u are to slow... many missed notes.. i mean stop ... people like u get aplouse from people that aren t familiar with what marimba player can do...

  • Your "constructive criticism" is perfectly fine....... but you can bog off now, since you do not seem to have noticed the description- "Sterrit" playing. Not I. If I could play precussion, hot damn...... but a penguin's chance in Hell. So, fy. Thank you, fo again! :D

  • Well now hotshot. Let's see your video with all of the right notes and steady tempo. Hell, you can't even spell percussionist, but I'll bet you think you be one! Well, you isn't!!!

"aplouse"? WTF is that?? You must be every English teacher's nightmare.

Come on little boy, you have all the answers...show us how it's done.

  • ok... ok ... ok ... ok .. look guys.. and girls... I m tired of this stuff... anybody that is not familiar with percuission thigs performances like this one is good .. or awsome or whatever... that performance was not good... so many missed notes... not musical enough... to slow.... wrong mallets... I am not a hater... I am percussionist...

  • ok ok asshole, im tired of YOUR stuff. im a percussionist as well and i must this was a pretty good piece, so shut up and get your fist our of your ass.

nice performance, keep up the good work

  • Man this guy is insanely good...I posted my marimba solo, but now I'm embarressd by how much better he is!!!

  • compliments! this is the greatest instrument that i ever seen! i was playing marimba 10 years ago..i love it!excellent player!

  • hey dude...good job. you do have good chops. and i give you tons of cred beause youre on marimba not xylo or vibes where youd have some sort of rebound. and you look really calm. no arm. all wrist. 5STARS

  • I definitely agree with shwn92, flight of the bumble bee is a lot more challenging than rain dance. Just because rain dance is 4 mallets, it doesn't automatically make it harder.

  • dude, use softer mallets

  • are you using hard mallets?...i feel the marimbas pain

  • AWESOMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • Good performance! very tight and clean. Sounds like it was at 160-ish, around there. You got chops man. Alot of times mallet players don't get credit for how difficult fast sixteenth notes are because battery guys can play them faster on their drums. It's a whole different animal when there's no rebound or finger used. Anyway, good job, keep up the goodness.

  • this is not that great

have you people ever even heard stuff like rain dance and rythm song (both are much harder four mallet pieces)

  • I am not a marimba player, I willingly admit I know nothing about it- it's not one of my instruments. I posted the video so people involved in music at RSD could see it, that is all. But I still enjoy hearing him play, as do a lot of people, even if they do not meet your high expectations :)

  • WRONG rain dance is so much easier than the this flight of the bumble bee's i dont think you even play a mallet instrument if you did you would realize this.

  • i admire anyone who can play flight of the bumblebee on any instrument but especially on percussion!

  • You guys need to chill out with the "it's not four mallet so it sucks" comments. If you want to see Flight of the Bumblebee for four mallets, I'm looking forward to seeing a video of you playing it on youtube. And I don't know about you, but I'm concerned with the performance of the piece, not how the room looks. If you're really concerned with the walls and decorations, you're gay. As far as this performance goes, good job man.

  • wayhay! it's david sterrit!

You gotta love Mrs. Batchelor! :D

  • Aye, Mrs B. rocks the socks! Lol. I should drop in and see the Batchelors sometime- It's been too long since I wandered round RSD lol.

  • I agree, Mrs B is great. I think she deserves more praise than she gets.

  • i like the video except for when i looked up and saw the british flag. WOW HOW GAY.

  • Excuse me, what got your knickers in a knot? There's a British flag because it was filmed in a Protestant grammer school in- gasp- Northern Ireland! which -gasp- is part of the UK.... How shocking.

  • Why? Is it not that often that North Americans daub every damn thing they own in their flag? Stars and stripes hats, stars and stripes cars in a way that would be seen as EXTREMELY vulgar in any other country.

  • You may think that, but we (that is to say pupils of RSD, past and present) think that is it POLITE to display something when it was very generously BEQUEATHED to us.

  • Oh shut up Joshi and stop being such an anal cunt :)

  • @DubhCion meh i agree with josh lol

oh this was agess ago... i was only a wee first year lol

  • eh. . .i could do it, flight of the bumble bee is not one on my list too do though. Did Fire by Don Skoog, you should look into that, 4-mallet but its definitely a chop's workout if you bring it up tempo.

  • Wow, attack of the 4-mallet snobs! Lol. I thought it was a fantastic performance actually.

  • Yo - that was pretty good. Although these people who are saying 'how about 4 mallets' - it's all basically chromatic, and it's impossible to play the bass part. aswell as the hemisemidemihemisemidemiquaver speed chromatic runs.. :P

    Anyway.. was brill

  • Not bad. It would have been much more impressive as a four-mallet piece with you playing the bass line, but I did enjoy it. Could use some minor polishing, but nice job!

  • Is this written as a 4mallet version somewhere? It seems to me that would be hard as heck if you were going at the real speed to also jump down an octave for the bass notes.

  • Very well done, you must have done some serious chop burnings with some yarn-coated metal mallets...but what about 4 mallets?

  • sweet chops, brah.

  • i play marimba!! you did an awsome job.

  • i have that music for school too. its really just a pattern but still that was good.

  • hey man, nice, where did you get that music?

  • Nice chops.

  • impressive

  • I can see that I have to practice a lot more;)

  • Kick ass, dude. You rock.

  • wooooow, awesome!!

  • Bravo! That was an awesome job! Great sense of rhythm, and you really captured it! Great accompaniment, too!

  • That was really cool. I play marimba for my school's marching band, so I can understand how hard that was. Sweet.

  • Sweet!

  • Thats my cousin up there. I am so so proud of him. He's done amazingly well!! Unfortunatly when we went home to Northern Ireland he was going to camp. I would have loved to have seen him though. Well done David!! Keep it up!! Philip

  • Awesome!

  • great job!

  • Lol, it sounds so comical on the marimba, very very nice.

I want to hear this piece played on a harmonica!

  • OmGgAaAadDdDd... ThAt WaZ tOtAlLy KicK-AsS!!

  • OmG! LYkE QUiT tYpiNG lykE a FAG!

  • as son as i read flight of the bumble bee i was like "yes!" because any instrument is amazing if somebody can play flight of the bubmlebee on it

  • what kind of solo has a piano accompanyment?

  • alot of solos require that :/ u should know...

  • many do.

  • haha the runes were pretty sloppy. i caught alot of mistakes because i played this my 7th grade year

    but over it sounds good

  • Runes? are you a Viking?

  • you are .... better than awesome

  • Don't praise me, lol. I wouldn'tt know one end of tthe thing from the other lol. I'm more of a woodwind being =P But yeah, Sterritt is pretty cool lol.

  • WOW!!!

  • The runs were all a little sloppy actually, but the main theme was clean.

  • I am so cool. how good am i at playin this.
