@MrJugglingAddict I have no idea what sheet music he was using. I'm not the musician :) This gentleman was in the flute section of the school band with me, but he also did a lot of percussion and other things. I have no idea what he's up to now, but I believe he was involved in a youth orchestra.
Its not actually, for the most part it is but it makes it very hard to learn because you have to memorize it, you can look at the intervals. Its also quite fast and at that speed with constant notes it takes a lot of skill to actually hit the right notes.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
yea im 14 and im just playing it..
lets face the facts
the tempos were uneven and he missed part of the run
big deal..
its not that hard a piece honestly, it does require some skill but not that much.
also i disagree very much with whoever said you dont get much rebound from a marimba...on the contrary, xylo and vibes have almost no rebound, while marimba should have great rebound with good mallets
of course...he didnt have very good mallets, but that's life....
what are you talking about unless you play with mallets not made for the instrument or just have a weird on their is little to no rebound and he did really good
yeah i've been playing mallets for a while now and xylo's had a crazy amount of rebound. the other mallets like marimba and vibes have a fair amount but for the most part xylo has the best rebound.
this isn't as hard as it looks. i played this for contest and i got near 9th. don't get me wrong, it's still very hard and he did great performing it, so good job on that.
are you kidding? A thats a really hard thing and thats mad skills B. it dosent really matter much if you fudge a bit as long as you keep going and play it off no one will care. its not like everyone the score and will be like "aww he missed that part of the run"
come on... u know u didn t do good... i know everybody will "boo" me but i mean i m percuissionist... and u are too... we both know it s not awsome ... u don t keep same tempo.. u have wrong malllets... u are to slow... many missed notes.. i mean stop ... people like u get aplouse from people that aren t familiar with what marimba player can do...
Your "constructive criticism" is perfectly fine....... but you can bog off now, since you do not seem to have noticed the description- "Sterrit" playing. Not I. If I could play precussion, hot damn...... but a penguin's chance in Hell. So, fy. Thank you, fo again! :D
Well now hotshot. Let's see your video with all of the right notes and steady tempo. Hell, you can't even spell percussionist, but I'll bet you think you be one! Well, you isn't!!!
"aplouse"? WTF is that?? You must be every English teacher's nightmare.
Come on little boy, you have all the answers...show us how it's done.
ok... ok ... ok ... ok .. look guys.. and girls... I m tired of this stuff... anybody that is not familiar with percuission thigs performances like this one is good .. or awsome or whatever... that performance was not good... so many missed notes... not musical enough... to slow.... wrong mallets... I am not a hater... I am percussionist...
ok ok asshole, im tired of YOUR stuff. im a percussionist as well and i must this was a pretty good piece, so shut up and get your fist our of your ass.
hey dude...good job. you do have good chops. and i give you tons of cred beause youre on marimba not xylo or vibes where youd have some sort of rebound. and you look really calm. no arm. all wrist. 5STARS
I definitely agree with shwn92, flight of the bumble bee is a lot more challenging than rain dance. Just because rain dance is 4 mallets, it doesn't automatically make it harder.
Good performance! very tight and clean. Sounds like it was at 160-ish, around there. You got chops man. Alot of times mallet players don't get credit for how difficult fast sixteenth notes are because battery guys can play them faster on their drums. It's a whole different animal when there's no rebound or finger used. Anyway, good job, keep up the goodness.
I am not a marimba player, I willingly admit I know nothing about it- it's not one of my instruments. I posted the video so people involved in music at RSD could see it, that is all. But I still enjoy hearing him play, as do a lot of people, even if they do not meet your high expectations :)
WRONG rain dance is so much easier than the this flight of the bumble bee's i dont think you even play a mallet instrument if you did you would realize this.
You guys need to chill out with the "it's not four mallet so it sucks" comments. If you want to see Flight of the Bumblebee for four mallets, I'm looking forward to seeing a video of you playing it on youtube. And I don't know about you, but I'm concerned with the performance of the piece, not how the room looks. If you're really concerned with the walls and decorations, you're gay. As far as this performance goes, good job man.
Excuse me, what got your knickers in a knot? There's a British flag because it was filmed in a Protestant grammer school in- gasp- Northern Ireland! which -gasp- is part of the UK.... How shocking.
Why? Is it not that often that North Americans daub every damn thing they own in their flag? Stars and stripes hats, stars and stripes cars in a way that would be seen as EXTREMELY vulgar in any other country.
You may think that, but we (that is to say pupils of RSD, past and present) think that is it POLITE to display something when it was very generously BEQUEATHED to us.
eh. . .i could do it, flight of the bumble bee is not one on my list too do though. Did Fire by Don Skoog, you should look into that, 4-mallet but its definitely a chop's workout if you bring it up tempo.
Yo - that was pretty good. Although these people who are saying 'how about 4 mallets' - it's all basically chromatic, and it's impossible to play the bass part. aswell as the hemisemidemihemisemidemiquaver speed chromatic runs.. :P
Not bad. It would have been much more impressive as a four-mallet piece with you playing the bass line, but I did enjoy it. Could use some minor polishing, but nice job!
Is this written as a 4mallet version somewhere? It seems to me that would be hard as heck if you were going at the real speed to also jump down an octave for the bass notes.
Thats my cousin up there. I am so so proud of him. He's done amazingly well!! Unfortunatly when we went home to Northern Ireland he was going to camp. I would have loved to have seen him though. Well done David!! Keep it up!! Philip
Don't praise me, lol. I wouldn'tt know one end of tthe thing from the other lol. I'm more of a woodwind being =P But yeah, Sterritt is pretty cool lol.
