All the prosperity of London during those times was derived from loot, plunder and destruction of the economies of its colonies.I am amused to see,how could they continue this without a stop..World War II was a reality check and I am happy that it weakened Great Britain and then it had to loose all the colonies. And now as it can no longer loot,it has taken a back seat in the world economy.
@MrKaju01 Being Irish I can understand hostility towards Britain but they haven't taken a back seat in the world economy. In fact they are the world's fifth largest economy. Britain is also the first industrial nation so it's not really fair to claim their prosperity was looted from its colonies.
@fnchrstphr Ya,they might be 5th largest economy, but the way its economy is getting affected by recession after recession,I think its not far when it rank even plunges backward further. There was a time when British generals came to unseen lands as traders and then cheated the natives and looted. Are you aware that the Industrial revolution in Britain was actually fueld by the looted money they were getting from its asian colonies at that time??
@fnchrstphr Read wikipedia - One British general acknowledged that the riches of One King Akbar (Indian King) during 16-17th century was far more that the British treasury at that time.Further in the GDP section of Wikipedia read that Indian economy's estimated GDP was world's highest even during the late 17th and Early 18th Century.,This is why Britian was so attracted towards India.Yes,only good thing they did was uniting India was a country from its segregated pieces to 1 nation subsequently.
Watching old footage is like watching a distant dream. I am a big 1920's fan and wish I had lived in that era. Thanks so much for sharing a trip back in time to an era that will never be equaled. :)
Hmmm...I often think the same...wouldn't it be nice to go back to the 1920s and 30s...But not for good. I think to go back for a short time would make you appreciate what we have today. A better standard of living, better health care...central heating...I remember a time without it...and of course communications. Only very basic radio back in those days...with valves LoL...and just a few land line phones. I dunno, things arn't too bad today.
I sent a link for this video to my friend because it had Ye Olde Chesire Cheese in it. We enjoyed a pint in there on one of our tours of old London pubs.
