  • @swansoni333 yeah all that cultures gone now.. Never see on tv where are the festivals? Barely any.. We have a new culture... Drake lil Wayne lady gaga :/

  • 21 people likes Justin Bieber

  • @hommsito Shut up. Just shut up. I'm sick and tired of hearing that kids name being thrown around. I can't stand his music, so I ignore it. And yet, idiots like yourself keep making assumptions about the musical tastes of the people who 'dislike' a video. Maybe they just don't like this rendition of Autumn Leaves? Maybe they don't like jazz and stumbled on this video? Maybe they accidentally hit dislike? Man, just shut up shut up shut up shut up.

  • Chet had a pathway, paved by geniuses like Desmond and Davis... Pathways most could only dream. I wish he had waried the path. The world, his family and music lovers would have been so much richer if he had.

  • I don't feel uncomfortable saying that Chet obviously loved Miles.

  • God, Gadd's snare work alone is enough to impregnate a woman...

  • Jazz makes me feel cool. And im not cool.

  • I just love this one

  • black pencile striped suit, matching trilby, black leather gloves, 1930

  • @687TwujHuj623 whats the point of stealing someone else's comment?

  • people who are anti-American, say America has no culture, look at people like Chet Baker, Paul Desmond, Ron Carter and Steve Gadd, all Americans who contributed greately to American culture.

  • Esto y un cigarro y estoy hecho! C:

  • Whenever I hear Chet Baker play, I cry. I cry because he was so great, and because he couldn't beat the drugs, and because he died so tragically, and because his playing and his singing come from a special place. Here with Paul Desmond the two of them create such a thirst for more, and then I realize there won't be "More", and I cry again. But I sure feel great hearing such perfect music from such great artists. That's the ART in their music.

  • Nothing but the best of jazz, props to paul desmond ,saxophone jazz...

  • Synkopa, drodzy synkopa.

  • Yes, this is a great arrangement and band. Amazing to think that Steve Gadd played with these guys way back then AND spent the 80s with Pat Metheny's band...

  • Chet is incredible. I love Paul's sound as well. What fantasitc stuff man!

  • If you really pay attention to Ron's bass on this, you can glimpse other-worldly excursion.

  • black pencile striped suit, matching trilby, black leather gloves, 1930's plymouth, bottel of fine spirit and friends to be with

  • genios!!!

  • I mourn that I didn't have YouTube when I was a teenage bass player because it would have made such a difference in my life. Alas...I will just have to get over it and enjoy what I can now....

  • THIS IS IT WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT MAN!!!!!!!!

    greetings from Amsterdam!

    THANX-A-LOT!!!!!

  • incomparable ...

  • Can Steve Gadd stil play like this? Man,is he not swingin' his tail off on this recording? Killin'!

  • nice 70´s sound: rhodes, flute and those drums... why did they stop using that drum sound...from the drums alone you can tell it´s 70´s...

  • This is a beautiful tune played be two of the greatest. Pitty Chet let drugs get to him and cut him off short.

    Alan.

  • 18 deaf idiots

  • @gtrvox 22 def idiots now.. so sad :(

  • Was there a 'smoother', more melodious, or more sensitive saxaphonist than Paul Desmond? Nope. Chet Baker is truly extraordinary on this recording. Jazz, the way it was/is meant to be played. -Cj the Dj

  • hoooo is a french song that's!!?(intro)

    France <3 ^^'

but this version so sick!!!really much better!

  • hahaha oh autumn leaves... this is an extremely cheesy version of the classic. The first 32 bars totally sound like a jest by these jazz greats. =D

    Still awesome, however.

  • subdued. west coast. cool jazz OVERLOAD

  • Well written heartfelt comments, Kevin thank you!

  • always relieving

  • 1:43 is so ahead of its time :O

  • THIS IS IT... WHY I WOULD LIKE PLAY TRUMPET!

  • Super Tare:X Va ador!!!

  • WOW this by far the best rendition of Autumn Leaves. I was actually looking for Coltrane's version when I stumbled on to Chet Baker's version. Glad I did.

  • My God, Steve Gadd is incredible.

  • @calumisdead i agree. i will never play autumn leaves the same again.

  • @calumisdead more like: "steve gadd, my god." lol

  • Steve Gadd AND Ron Carter? Holy crap! I didn't know they ever played together. I need to do some homework!

  • My jazz tutor told me that if I want my improv to improve I should to listen to the best to try and absorb some ideas and get a feel for jazz...

I decided to listen to this song 100 times

  • @djtinz7 Only 100...? a good start and then maybe once a day for the rest of your life. Sweeter, freer and tighter than this it does not get.

  • @djtinz7 ... If you listen to it 101 times consecutively you'll shoot your goo in your panties, blueboy.

  • Comment removed

  • @djtinz7 You've got a good jazz tutor ;)

  • un gran tutor el tuyo. un consejo rápido, recuerda intentar expresar al maximo tus sentimientos con el jazz. suerte ;)

  • wonderful...

  • Autumn Leaves = The coolest way to get an eargasm.

  • This is being performed in F minor, (1st chord Bb minor7), instead of the 2 most commons keys for this song ,E minor [The Real Book) or Stan Getz's version in C minor. Paul 's tone is like a DRY MARTINI

  • @kingkoeller E minor's the best.

  • How could there possibly be 15 dislikes??????

  • @padleynj

They don't know or understand Jazz. They'll never "Get It."

They can't hear it, the feel, the swing, the personal TONE, the fingerprint of the artist's expression.

It's their loss. I feel truly sorry for them......Jazz takes you on a journey to inner peace.

  • This is undying. I love listening to Paul desmond

  • What a truly beautiful recording! Ron Carter is the King's asshole!(That's slang for "the power on top of the throne', if you catch my drift)

  • Ron Carter can't be simplified.

  • Mr. beautiful Desmond.

  • that bass player picture is percy heath isn't it?

  • Great rendition here. How can you not like Steve Gadd's drumming that solo on "Aja" is priceless?

  • @MrKafkaesque i didn't i say i don't like it..cause i do..dut morello give a different feel..maybe more vintage

  • i think morello suits better..

  • This a fusion of a beautiful West Coast trumpet with a divine East Coast Alto it's just Jazz, stop analysing and listen, enjoy. It's music not science!!

  • I love this! Although generally I don't prefer gadd's drumming, here he's spectacular!

  • So cool!

  • Bob james on the keys and Steve Gadd on drums spicing up this bland recording

  • Is this Be-bop, swing or West Coast style.

  • It sounds so much like a modern progressive jam band (one without hippies)...except much more complex. This is a fantastic recording. So smooth. Paul Desmond... what a pimp. As long as music like this remains available... life will be cool.

  • So - who plays the vibes?

  • Desmond's sax tone is so definable and distinct, I love it.

  • oh that Gadd is a miracle in feeling

  • This grooves so freaking hard

  • bob james? weird.

  • Real history...

  • Sure miss these guys. Never heard the song until I heard this version; hard to beat it.

  • @teroberts4gospel Its a perfect song to teach the 2 tear strucuture, one mother scale and the underpinning relative minor. Once that is firmly understood we take it to other scales. This is in Ab - F minor, we studied it on Fri in Dminor-G, for sax in B minor D

  • God knows how many times i've replayed this video..

  • I just can't fathom how anyone could find it in themselves to dislike this

  • @sackbreath360 thats exactly what i have thought so many times., how is it possible that you do not like this magnificent piece of art..

  • This is my favorite version of the song, even better than Miles in my opinion.

  • souls' conversation

  • Be-bop is the best!

  • This is the best drumming I have ever heard. Can anyone recommend some other great tunes with drumming of this caliber?

  • @ricflairflair Bohemia after dark by the Cannonball Adderley Quintet. It's on the record "The Cannonball Adderley Quintet in San Fransisco" and the drummer is Louis Hayes. Most anything by Max Roach, as well.

  • @ricflairflair You mean similar style? Check Cobham's stuff, though slightly less subtle. Or for incredi-shit check Tony Williams early years.....Blows your mind

  • Джаз - музыка умных людей .

  • its really good! i love it. im feeling it! anyway socialsax com have autumn leaves backing track. its free.

  • Is there anybody around now and playing who knows how to relax and swing at the same time? And who knows that relaxed doesn't mean soft or flabby?

  • @pindaric musicians work there whole lives refining wat ur talking about

  • Splendida esecuzione gestita con estremo talento!

    Grazie :o)

  • I like this better than Bill Evan's version. Paul Desmond has such a smooth sound; it's moving to hear.

  • Me mató la traducción de la descripción!!

    Excelente versión!

  • @MrBewized HA lol. record this. i would like to see your version of autumn leaves.

  • Who ever recorded this is/was an amazing talent as well. The mic placement is perfect.

  • Paul Desmond & Jim Hall - Night has a thousand eyes

  • This is so beautiful. It sounds like a sunny autumn day in Chicago and I love it

  • drums (especially) and bass don't match the feel of the horns. overproduced music by great players.

  • haha yeah, I think the whole r/s is frigthening in general, check Ron and Gadd after riff after 1:33. Bob james's solo was one of the first things I learned.

  • I love Steve Gadd but...my gosh, does he have to showboat in every bar?? I think it overshadows the rest of the ensemble!

  • @ynnadssom I've been in a million bars, and have never seen Steve Gadd "showboating" in them!!!!! Heyoooo, I'm here all week folks. I had mentioned in an early post that I didn't thinke he was over the top in this and that maybe it was more the mix, but now, I have to agree with you.

  • @ynnadssom I agree!! I'm a big fan of Gadd but I've always thought that Jack D would have been a better choice for this cut.

  • Musta been some clumsy fingers hittin' the "dislike" button. :-) Seriously, these are all my favorite players from that era. Really wonderful music going on here! Thanks for posting.

  • damn, those tight triplets on the drums 1:23 ish

  • @DexStanT

    They arent. They are semiquavers.

  • Steve God!!!

  • nice rendition.1467 to 13 speaks for itself(march03 2011)top draw stuff.

  • Thanks for this link!

  • Perfect song to smoke a joint to after you just got laid..............

  • @andy23822 sounds good to me

  • 素直にカッコイイと呟きが溢れてしまう。

  • @Thecotorataira

    that'z wat i said!!

  • Album name? I need it.

  • @dannyinternetz She Was Too Good To Me

  • When I was a child in the late 50's, 60's, my mother would leave the AM radio playing all night as I slept. It was a jazz station in KC and great jazz was current then, Miles cool jazz, Bill Evans, Chet Baker, et. al. My God I heard, "So What" when it premeired! Obviously, as my first encounter with music, I thought all music afterward would be this great. I feel very very lucky, that some of my first conscious moments in life were of such a great thing. Thanks guys. Thanks Mom. RIP.

  • @kevin120857 i have 21 & i don't know why in this times with too much technology & some stuff it's a kind of impossible find good musicians, and people of my age that heards this wonderfull kind of music, so sad .

  • @kevin120857 I feel so blessed - to be a witness!! We have memories of artistry - at such a level of intense aesthetic integrity!

Can you get 'lost' within the textures of today's music - like an incidental chord change or phrase, could just trigger the synapse ...,

  • @kevin120857

The KC station may have been KPRS or, after about 1961, "Moonglow with Martin" on KMBC. Dick Martin spent most of his career in New Orleans and ended up in Baton Rouge. Happily, he was in KC. His exquisite taste, rich knowledge, great respect for musicians and listeners, and warm presentation inspired my love for musc, most of all for Bill Evans, for the next 50 years. He was a wonderful companion and teacher. He brought beauty to my life, and defined me. I will always be grateful.

  • I'd forgotten how wonderful this is.

  • excelente !!!

  • excelente !!!

  • @MC345611 Yes it is (it's written above)

  • I left my body and can't come back............

  • @MC345611 yes it is.

  • I admire every breathe of air Chet Baker ever blew thorugh his horn but when Paul Desmond comes in at 2:32 and 5:47, it's as if I feel like I'm cooly walking through the gates of heaven. I feel that if all else fails, life is beautiful when I hear the sound of Desmond's sax. Simply that and nothiong more or less. Did I get this right? Will someone please tell me. Thank you Mark Seibold Artist Astronomer Portland Oregon

  • @cosmiclight No no, you got it right on target.

    __TheClassicRockKid95__

  • @cosmiclight I also find Hubert Law's flute arrangement completelly beautiful. This performance is beyond words!

  • If this isn't the best version I've ever heard , I'll blow a dead dog on the side of I-20 with the channel 2 News helicopter filming it live overhead.....

  • They are so tight and so good....can't stop snapping and grooving. Love it.

  • the drummer is ok but he's no charlie watts

  • What a SICK drummer.

    God.

  • The absolute coolest, grooviest, locked in part of this song is at 1:43.... it is perfection... suddenly out of nowhere the most awesome groove just appears with the slides on the bass and ...... whatever... its easily one of my favorite parts of any jazz song.... plus the rhodes makes me really horny

  • love the break at 0:54!!

  • My best of the best album within Chet & Desmond session !!!!

  • WTF man ! they are adding forced advertise before this great song, fuck you tube i hope Miley Cyrus die on the travel fucking bitch !

by the way, nice performance ... i must really love jazz to endure a bitch cyrus advertise before it.

  • @Kajahzao Go easy with the Rage.

  • Brilliant version!

  • Chet could blow his own beautiful tune - so sad he got on the speedway and blew himself out.

  • new artist know where they came from.

  • Sundance Channel recently was showing documentary on Chet Baker's life. Fabulous but sad !

  • Drummer is mind-blowing.

  • Gadd Zooooks! That is some fantastic drumming and Chet's trumpet is very cool....ditto Paul Desmond. All great individually and also great as a band. That's the trick. Band members actually paying attention the dynamics. Everything was so smooth that solos didn't come across as "okay it's my turn" they just flowed. Wow! what a recording session.

  • @harrybsings Harryb my man, I could not have put it better myself. They were playing the tune and I think they just left there ego's at the door and it clicked. What a session indeed, by the way do you sing?

  • I sing and write songs.

  • Genius!!!!!!

  • Wow I was not avere of this album but this sounds Great, The two leads are lyrical and flowing and fantastic drumming by Gadd as usual and Great Rhodes playing by James. I'm of to Amazon to get this.

  • The Lick at 3:05 by Paul Desmond is the coolest thing ever. Love it.

  • this is what I call "cool"

  • : ) Bob James!!!

  • tapa ts tapa ts tapa ts tak! (triplet) oh ya!!

  • When i first heard this on the radio, the thing i liked was the druming,I had not heard of Steve Gadd before, i soon got the album. FAB-U-LUS. I play drums but not as good as the GREAT GADD!! The recording is great caught the drums just right, not the easiest things to record believe me.

  • @lapps22 It's ok lapps - no one plays drums as well as Gadd does for so many different styles of music. His sense of tempo is second to none. My guess is no one has played drums for as many big name musicians as Gadd. Btw - phenomenal performances by Desmond and Baker - I play sax but not as good as the Great Desmond.

  • @jimraw1 that's right jim Gadd plays all styles I play all types to, but Jazz has allwas been my bag.I read recently somewhere that Desmond was influenced by Getz's great sound, I allways thought that anyway.

I have three fave alto players Paul-- Lee-- an Bud--. i'll let you fill in the blanks. Keep on blowing an dont forget to breathe! lapps

  • @lapps22 when i think of that west coast cool sound, the three names that come to mind on sax are Paul Desmond, Lee Konitz and Gerry Mulligan. I wish Konitz and Desmond would have recorded more together, but I read that Konitz wasn't a huge fan of Desmond (even though he was obviously an influence for Paul.) You're right about Getz being an influence for Paul; I would also throw Lester Young and Zoot Sims in there. I guess what he didn't want to do was sound like Charlie Parker
