  • what a freak

  • surprisingly bad double bass skills

  • @atticusspc are you insane?! it's hard to have so much control, that gives him the ability to play soft!! Sure, lots of drummers play 200+bpm double bass, but not with this control... i couldn't play that controlled, even thoguh i've played 250bpm+ death metal 5 years now :s it's easier just pounding away...

  • @DKMoonwalker ye true i guess... the very first thing i like to practice is finding the tempo i wanna play at and getting the hits as spot on as possible, not necessarily pounding the drum since that just takes up energy from the legs but so that i can play comfortably at that tempo with the hits sounding the same and staying on the count.

  • holy fuck this drumset.... :OO

  • AMAZING!!!!

  • thomas lang or mike portnoy ?? hmmmmm hard to choose

  • Holy foot control Batman.

  • freakin speechless

  • good

  • pfffft.... i can do that......

  • @ZarkDragon pretty confident arent we? make a vid of you doing that..

  • Holy ****! Advanced foot technique indeed! :>

  • frajer

  • y u no play more cowbell! ^^

  • Compareee secoo :D !

  • I pick him to be the next Dream Theater drummer!

  • Oh my God! Jesus of the drums! And I love the shoes! ^__^

  • 0:40 i thought he was going to play metallica

  • what type of heads is he using?

  • i would kill for that drumset

  • @JBabesTheNT I would too! but something small... like carrots..... or spiders.... no, I'm afraid of spiders...

  • I DON'T CARE WHAT YALL SAY THIS WHITE BOY IS BAD GIVE HIM HIS PROS............... DON'T HATE!!!!!

  • zzzz

  • he's got an incredible foot control... amazing dinamics

  • Thats the shirt of a mother fucking man

  • yo this song is odee nice :)

  • yo this song is odee nice :)

  • He keeps his heels like a half inch off the pedals for his normal strokes and puts his whole foot down for the accents, ghost notes are just from practice :P

  • Music was lame.

  • @GLPlumleeIV Prog + Funky Groove,

  • sick drum set, looks like its built for a octopus jaja

  • : /

  • his feets are more coordinated than my hands LoL!!

have you ever seen a drummer do that with a double pedal? he's the only awesome

  • those see-through shells are bad ass lookin

  • i can do that!!! but then i wake up

  • @MrDanimer not even in your dreams/ :D you see what i did thare?

  • hes unbelievable!!! >.<

  • his double bass is sloppy...most of jazz player plays sloppy double bass..y is it?

  • @naplame He's playing ghost notes and accents, its not sloppy

  • @mik4225drumming okey...thnx for the information....i just started listening to jazz drumming n i wonder y they play like that...once again, thnx for the info:)

  • @naplame Accents and ghost notes in his double strokes. He has possibly the best feet in the industry.

  • He must fill the shoes of Mike!

  • fuck thats the nerdiest thing ive eva seen yo

  • i bet his calf muscles ar FRIKIN RIP!!

  • woah a video of him holding the stix like normal not marching snare style

  • mhhh.........i loooooove it!

  • i elect thomas lang to play drums for Dream Theater

  • If you look closer, he doensn't actually do heel down.

  • I love how he pops up when he hits the snare and bass.

  • Its the shoes!!! =P

  • He must be pretty bored playing that song. But hey, considering how much he's being payed for that, I'm sure he doesn't mind kicking back and just playing in the pocket for a few minutes.

  • Honestly this isn't that great or hard, I'll give him props for nice solid drumming :) but first off, it's his kit that makes him sound better than what he's actually playing, second of all the only really hard thing he's doing is his footwork which I'll give him credit for.

    Anyway nice drumming.

  • Thomas is go(o)d

  • let's see U do better ass.

  • i love how he's accenting his right foot.

  • Retarded looking drums,retarded outfit,retarded music..

  • @feverfordrums if u can play one minute of what he did i will accept wht u say. if not u are just a loser

  • education plus INSPIRATION!!

  • Honestly, I don't like the sound of the snare, He keeps his stick on the snare after he hits it, and doesn't bring it back, so it gives it a dull sound, it doesn't let the snare drum sing. Same with the bass drum, he's burying the beater

  • @poppadocs420 even if it doesnt sound that good to your ears ya gotta admit that Thomas is a freaking awesome drummer! lol

  • 0:47 accented groove on the bass drum, genius

  • i dont know if its because the background looks like a porno set, the music hes playing along to sounds like f zero gx, or that hes dressed like a chip n dale dancer, but i can not take this dude seriously.

  • sounds like mein teil from rammstein lolz! his drumming is soo sickk!!

  • does any1 know wat kind of heads he uses

  • I could listen to this all day

  • I honestly thought he was playing mein teil at first =D

  • pretty sure you cant play that fast heel down

  • Thomas Lang is just so damn talented. 1 thing I like about him is , he can play matched grip or traditional grip. When he plays Rock / Heavy Metal style drumming he plays matched, when he plays technical / funk / drum solos , he plays traditional. Thomas I just want to let you know that im jelouse as hell of your talent!!

  • I hate this guy...because he's SO FUCKING AMAZING!!!!!

  • People get up in arms about it because it really defeats the object of having a real drum you may as well just use an electric rubber pad, personally If you have to use a trigger on your drum you don't know how to get a good tone out of drum, If being miked, if it sounds good at the source it will sound good through a P.A. Yeah they're are uses for triggers, for maybe samples, but when people start using them to create a sound of a snare drum I don't see the point, just learn how to tune.

  • I dont even play drums but it is my favorite instrument....This dude is an absolute beast

  • @simmons2004 Wow. It makes me happy to see that even non-drummers can appreciate Thomas Lang, sick of all the drummer kids worshipping drumming nobodies ~.~

  • fajnie

  • His feet are better than my hands.. D:

  • the stuff he was doin was pretty simple...

  • @Jabarichonicles Upload a video of you doing this? I would like to see how simple it is to you. [:

  • @DaltonDrums

i dont have all his stuff and idk what ythe song is or where to get it...ill do it u can hook me up :]

  • @Jabarichonicles Oh, I think you can handle it, after all it's simple, remember? [:

  • i honestly dont see how he plays soooo well heel-down

  • @wizardy16120 Are you kiddin'? It's much better and easy to play heels down!

  • @TheThepillows I disagree with that. besides, the easy part is an opinion. could u plz explain y its better tho?

  • @wizardy16120 Yeah sure. When you play with the heels up you have one type of volume, very strong. When you play with heels down you can play either very low or very strong. You can't do that with the heels up, you get one volume; strong.

    Thomas Lang is good! :P

  • @TheThepillows

    Thats not true...

Heel-up or down has simply something to do with what your prefer... Both ways you can play low and strong.

  • @TheThepillows volume control has nothing to do with heel up or down. its a matter of practice. i use both technics for loud and soft its the texture difference for me

  • @TheThepillows I've gotten to the point where I can do soft accent hits on the bass heel up, but it takes a lot of time and a lot of tweaking with the pedal to be able to do it. I would still say the best way to play soft on the bass is heel down though.

  • @TheThepillows You've made a mistake. Thomas Lang is God!! XD

  • @TheThepillows Thomas Lang is GOD! XD

  • @TheThepillows i have to disagree, you can also vary the volume whilst playing heels up

anyway usually i like to play a mix of both...

nevere the less: thomas lang is one hell of a drumming machine! *-*

  • @TheThepillows I play jazz with heels up and I never play too much strong.

  • @TheThepillows i disagree you can have just as much dynamics playing heelup its all on the player

  • @TheThepillows I disagree. you can control power with heels up also

  • @TheThepillows Right on dude. This guy plays with dynamics with his feet. He plays accents and not accents. Awesome.

  • @TheThepillows Oh. That is totally NOT true, you definetly have dynamics when you play heel up, i think its just harder to play it soft, try to get a nice strong kick with heels down, after one stroke your shin muscle will go insane, it needs a LOT of training to keep that endurance!

  • @TheThepillows you can get dynamic diversity either way you play. Heel up allows you to throw your whole leg into the stroke with the pedal, but you can hit softly with with heel up too, as long as you have good balance. Heel down is by far more accurate as far as bass drum note placement goes in my opinion though. Heel down takes a lot more muscle building and exercise to get louder volumes especially with fast speed. A lot of walking around with sore shins >.>

  • @TheThepillows

You can master the heel up for volume. Experience is talking...because when you play songs with your parents...sometimes you gotta be a little quiet for their tunes. Haha

  • @TheThepillows Yes you can lol, I play heel up all the time

  • @TheThepillows ur wrong there any technique can be used like that no technique is superior than the other is the user not the technique

  • @TheThepillows He alternates bewteen heels but primarily he goes down. Very subtle

  • Comment removed

  • @TheThepillows it's not all that black and white; you can play low-volumed heels up. It's just how much you've improved your technique. Playing heels down is easier with low volume (not sure if Lang plays double-bass with low volume, I have a hunch though) whereas playing heels up is easier with strong volume.

Playing fast with low heels with wrong technique wears ankles down without a proper technique and therefore is "harder to achieve" as a full-working technique when training.

  • Note how he makes accent while playing double-bass, not that simple playing. Lang's great :)

  • @TheThepillows not really, its just a matter of practice really, but yes its easier to control the vomlume with heels down but (atleast at first) its harder to go faster, although in the end its just a matter of practice with both.

  • @TheThepillows

Also, I have found that playing heels down gives you more control over the resonance of the bass drum, as in, whether you want it to ring out by taking the beater immediately off the head, or if you want it to be a short thud by mashing the beater into the head.

  • @wizardy16120 He ain't playing heel-down, just relaxed heel up.

You can see that his heel is slightly above the pedal when playing faster

  • @wizardy16120 they're not always down

  • @wizardy16120 in his instructional video he encourages practice of heel-down and heel-up to be diverse. Heel-down offers a bit more control in lower speeds.

  • @wizardy16120 its a very intersting technique, if you play drums you know its easy to go fast heel down but you dont get much power behind your hits, so he uses it as a drone while hitting a heel up power note with his right foot in between to keep time, which is a very interesting technique to say the least

  • @wizardy16120 Look at his right foot. It isn't completely heel down... Some drummers switch back and forth between heel up and down depending on the situation (I for one find it much easier to do things that way)

  • @wizardy16120 is easyer to control your moves playing heel down

  • @wizardy16120 He alternates, starting heel down, he applies texture to his rudiments by setting his heel up farther on those more noticeable, albeit ever so slightly.

  • @wizardy16120 Get the DVD, you'll find out.

  • @wizardy16120 he does both... he actually does a dynamic tutorial showing how to use each technique appropriately.

  • wow he makes a double bass look easy. awesome playing man!

  • holy crap i never thought id see that. thomas lang playing within a song! sounds awesome still

  • That must be one hell of a trip to move that drum set.

  • Nice sleeves! :D On a more serious note though, gotta love the drumming and Thomas's playstyle!

  • everyone needs to shut up about triggers with thomas. i just got back from the NYC drumming boot camp and i was with thomas all week. his feet are incredible. and he told us he doesn't trigger. seeing thomas play in front of you all week really shows how great of a player he really is.

  • nice shoes....

  • So smooth...

  • love his kit. so experimental. id love to playabout with that and see what layouts i could make lol :D

  • buff cunt

  • he should play for rammstein

  • This is badass.

  • I like how uses ghost notes and accents on the bass drum.

  • I LYKE HIS SHOES

  • that double bass pedal in insanee!!!! he is actually amazing :')

  • jaja wm seko.

  • forget it i just didn't saw it at the beginig

  • what's the name of that song? anyone knows?

  • how the hell can he give his 2 arms and 2 legs different rythms? XD this guy is sick m8 ;D

  • Why does everyone think, that using a double kick is cheating?!?! then u all fucking try it if u don't have or use one. Now when u try it...if ur man enough...then come back and watch more of Thomas Lang Vids and try to talk shit. What this guy can do is fucking AMAZING, he is working every part of his body in diferent time signitures.....WOW!!!!. And there is nothing wrong with a big kit, small ones are for pussys who have no ear for sounds. Point is....give Thomas Lang some RESPECT.

  • Christ! You'd need one of those office chairs with the wheels on it just to use the whole set. Maybe put him on one side of it, and someone else on the other.

  • doesnt he have the sonor triple effect pedal? the kit is too big!

  • His footwork during the first series of rolls is really sloppy...at the end he lost it. Man, if HE can screw that up I guess it must be ubber hard.

  • no ur just a worthless shit hole who doesnt apriciate great drummers like thomas lang

  • @metalmike83

their called ghost notes, the softer hits. notice how his foot changes to heels down to play them?

  • nobody needs a set that big come on

  • @Forevaitalia Well he can use all his drums musically so i don't blame him.

  • where can i get a nice smooth peadal for under 200 bucks help me plz

  • @mackie500 look for shop named thomann, its in germany and its cheao as fuck!

  • @brreezer i live in america can i get it online

  • His footwork with the Pedals are awesome. And his way of playing is very inspirational.

  • Talk about drumset...

and then you find a set of Drums.

    (No offence)

  • i have a dvd from thomas lang and that really good, i´am a very big fan from thomas lang

  • Got a pair of those shoes...great to drum in

  • i agree! why is he profi? in my opinion it is not very good played for a pro.

  • That was boring, i can play this.... will you put me on a dvd hudson music?

  • why don t u post a video with u playing it?

  • Dude, come one... This isn't good enough to be on a dvd/to be a professional drummer is the point i was making. Besides i would get bashed like this dude if i made a video playing this boring stuff.

  • lol...if u check his other videos u ll get why he is on the dvd and u r not!!!!!

  • lol i know man. But this fuckin sucks lol. Thats what i was gettin at.

  • bradzdestroyer:

    1) educational DVD's are not about being entertaining. They're supposed to teach you something. "Boring" is a completely irrelevant point.

    2) the point of this is the dynamics on double bass. I don't know how about you but I don't know about many drummers in this world who could play ghost notes and accents in double bass single stroke rolls at this tempo.

This is what the video is trying to show. Anything else in this song is not even supposed to be complicated.

  • i'm working on it with my band : )

  • ik ben homo en ik neuk hem graag, ik doe dit dagelijks en hij is echt goed!(in het neuken)

  • I mean every drummer must level technique and rythm. Every1 can play fast, even marky ramone xD

  • Hey look the vid from 00:12 to 00:14 and then read it for your self! ;-) Mall...

  • knulla din farfar

  • @masterof94 you talking about cock with curly hair ?

  • go and fuck your mum

  • you can never have too much technique

  • just watched the video and theres not much technique lol xD only on feet

  • exactly, that's what he was going for. this guy could play the hell outta this song using more technique with his hands but the song didn't call for it.

  • Awesome!

  • is this the dude that recorded the soundtrack to N64's "rampage 1&2".. hahahaha

    what double pedal is that?

  • sonor giant step!

  • Thomas uses the sonor giant step twin effect pedals.

  • sonor giant step series

  • @DJMarkie1: it is Mallory

  • YES! Love the red Chuck Taylor's :) I play with my chucks all the time.

  • good shit bro!!!!

im about to start... i heard there great drumming shoes...

  • hes so good with his feet!! hes doin like super fast paradittles with accents and stuff

  • Just a quick question..

Do these DVDs like help you get better and improve technique and stuff?

Just wondering if it's worth getting some?

    And if so, any recommendations??

  • quick answer. yes!
