I remember playing this game back in the day. Although I think the plot is ridiculous, the game has very nice animation, very elaborate backgrounds and wonderfully-bizarre characters.
Indeed, this game's control was unholy and the plot was bizarre, but the graphics were colorful, the animation was smooth, the characters were creative, the music was cool, and it was still good cheesy fun if you had nothing else to do. It was bad, but not, like, bad bad.
OMG I had this game on SNES when I was a kid and I think I might have played it 2 or 3 times at most. This has to be one of the very worst video games ever made! The only reason I actually owned it was because I won it on some stupid radio contest way back when it first came out, so it was free. I can't imagine why anyone would have ever paid for this piece of crap game!

I love this game because it's a difficult challenge decorated by a simplistic appearance. For me, that's what I love about retro games.

You can't shoot a free throw, you can't make your own brand of shoes that looks almost like Jordans, you can't ball on Kobe, and you can't make a mortal kombat knockoff.
For anyone who likes this game you can go to this website called Vizzed and they'll let you play a few times if you don't have an account but if you get an account, then you can play ALL types of classic games from the past consoles (EXCEPT Playstation One and Sega Dreamcast). The only thing about it is that you'll have to have points in order to play games but they'll tell you all about it though.......

It's no Street Fighter...it's no Mortal Kombat...it's no Virtua Fighter or Tekken. It was pretty bad, but not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. The controls are hard to get accustomed to; however, the game becomes O.K. once you get it.
Other notes: story line sucked...graphics were good (for the time)...characters were O.K. Music was O.K.
On a scale of 1 - 10...a basic 4. Nothing special about this game.
If you really want to see a bad game...see Shaq Fu for the Genesis. Can't even punch.
Genesis version was surprisingly decent in comparison. They fixed the controls and added a few characters in it. I don't know how they managed to fuck up the SNES version as bad as they did.

@Foxdude89 Ah well people that mindlessly follow whatever critics say, are just people that are too weak willed or stupid to actually follow their own opinions, so they just go along with what someone else says, that's why I don't take them seriously. I love the game, Mephis was my favorite, and same I had it on the Genesis (well, Megadrive) rather than the SNES. You can still play it on PC/laptop with a ROM and emulator though, so all isn't lost. Try Kega Fusion.
@Jiemusu89 Oh my goodness, you're right. I looked all over Youtube and found nothing but people jumping around and pressing A like they didn't know what the special moves were. The closest I got to legit gameplay was this or that fake grand finals video where both players used Leotsu and spammed Blast Kai until either got close to where they could spam his ridiculous staff poke instead. It looked a lot more artful than random jumping and jabbing.
@SJtheMFZB Yeah, I see this for a lot of games, people don't know how to use the controls. Most fightings games cater too much for button bashers (limb per button, or high/low punch/kick setup). People take experience they have for other games, apply it to whatever current, then rate a game down when they 'surprisely' do bad. This isn't the first to suffer that treatment, and won't be the last. It's easier to complain about stuff you can't do, rather than put effort into overcoming a challenge.
Graphics seem to be somewhat nice, fluid animations and big sprites. The sound is awful. You don't hear annoying music of that kind in every game you play. I can't say anything about the controls but the fighting system looks kind of dull and not worth playing at all.
People just hate the concept of a Shaq videogame. I thought it was a great fighting game for its time. I got it because it was made by Delphine, who also made Flashback

I agree that the controls were very hard to get used to. But i was actually very good at this game, It took some practice, but when friends would come over to play, I could consistently pull off very good combos with some interesting and confusing block strings, But in those days, we loved every fighting game, didnt matter if it sucked or not:)
Honestly, it's bad, but it's not the worst game ever, not even worst fighting game. I would say Brutal Unleashed or Mortal Kombat 1, 3, and 4 for the Game Boy would take that spot.
Also, I'm surprised that the Genesis version had FIVE more characters than the SNES. I could see one, maybe two more, but FIVE? Might as well have been called Shaq Fu 2, then. Also, I noticed the hit detection was slightly better on the Genesis.
Not really, Karol has the lowest power in the game(Even lower than Shaqs). She's basically the speed character. She's tough, but not God Tier. Sett might be considered God Tier though.

For anyone who likes this game you can go to this website called Vizzed and they'll let you play a few times if you don't have an account but if you get an account, then you can play ALL types of classic games from the past consoles (EXCEPT Playstation One and Sega Dreamcast). The only thing about it is that you'll have to have points in order to play games but they'll tell you all about it though.......

It's no Street Fighter...it's no Mortal Kombat...it's no Virtua Fighter or Tekken. It was pretty bad, but not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. The controls are hard to get accustomed to; however, the game becomes O.K. once you get it.
Other notes: story line sucked...graphics were good (for the time)...characters were O.K. Music was O.K.
On a scale of 1 - 10...a basic 4. Nothing special about this game.
If you really want to see a bad game...see Shaq Fu for the Genesis. Can't even punch.

Genesis version was surprisingly decent in comparison. They fixed the controls and added a few characters in it. I don't know how they managed to fuck up the SNES version as bad as they did.

So bitching about it, is just a defence mechanism to by-pass that you're terrible at the game.
It has unique controls, I'll give you that, but you can't handle something truely new.

But they see others doing badly as well, and hop on the "WORST GAME EVER" bandwagon, rather than, y'know, having the balls to actuallly trying to get to grips with the game's challenge.

(he even kept menchoning how they had Shaq in the game and I dont see why thats such a major problem. =/) I still have this on genesis but I no longer have the console so I cant even enjoy it anymore like when I was a kid..

@Foxdude89 Ah well people that mindlessly follow whatever critics say, are just people that are too weak willed or stupid to actually follow their own opinions, so they just go along with what someone else says, that's why I don't take them seriously. I love the game, Mephis was my favorite, and same I had it on the Genesis (well, Megadrive) rather than the SNES. You can still play it on PC/laptop with a ROM and emulator though, so all isn't lost. Try Kega Fusion.

@Jiemusu89 Oh my goodness, you're right. I looked all over Youtube and found nothing but people jumping around and pressing A like they didn't know what the special moves were. The closest I got to legit gameplay was this or that fake grand finals video where both players used Leotsu and spammed Blast Kai until either got close to where they could spam his ridiculous staff poke instead. It looked a lot more artful than random jumping and jabbing.
Case in point: everyone DOES suck at this game.

@SJtheMFZB Yeah, I see this for a lot of games, people don't know how to use the controls. Most fightings games cater too much for button bashers (limb per button, or high/low punch/kick setup). People take experience they have for other games, apply it to whatever current, then rate a game down when they 'surprisely' do bad. This isn't the first to suffer that treatment, and won't be the last. It's easier to complain about stuff you can't do, rather than put effort into overcoming a challenge.

Graphics seem to be somewhat nice, fluid animations and big sprites. The sound is awful. You don't hear annoying music of that kind in every game you play. I can't say anything about the controls but the fighting system looks kind of dull and not worth playing at all.

I agree that the controls were very hard to get used to. But i was actually very good at this game, It took some practice, but when friends would come over to play, I could consistently pull off very good combos with some interesting and confusing block strings, But in those days, we loved every fighting game, didnt matter if it sucked or not:)

Honestly, it's bad, but it's not the worst game ever, not even worst fighting game. I would say Brutal Unleashed or Mortal Kombat 1, 3, and 4 for the Game Boy would take that spot.
Also, I'm surprised that the Genesis version had FIVE more characters than the SNES. I could see one, maybe two more, but FIVE? Might as well have been called Shaq Fu 2, then. Also, I noticed the hit detection was slightly better on the Genesis.

Not really, Karol has the lowest power in the game(Even lower than Shaqs). She's basically the speed character. She's tough, but not God Tier. Sett might be considered God Tier though.

Oh yeah, I remember when my little brother got this game back in 1994. He bought it because he saw Shaq on the front and thought it was a basketball game. He wanted the game, because it was the first time he'd seen shaq (who I don't think ever has and never will appear on a b-ball game) on anything. But man was he pissed when he found out what type of game it was. Back in the day I used to love fighting games, but I've always hated this one.
