We had have the same problem with our C5 2001 HDI 110 ; our car was aged to 5 years, with 111000km, we met a lot of problem during this time (we were obliged to let the car to the car mechanic every 6 months), and after the fire, Citroën refused to do a commercial gesture ; since this time, we have a Ford Mondéo 2002, with 280000km, and no problem to declare...
This is what happends if you fuel a diesel car with particle filter with gasoline instead of diesel. if the mix is around 50/50 or even more gasoline the engine still runs, but it gets too hot in the filter.
Im not saying that this is what you did with your C5, but its not unusual that people fill their diesel car up with gasoline and stuff like this happends.

None of them were any trouble and the 1.6 litre ones were nippy as fuck and the gearboxes are excellent seeing as they all cost me only 400-700 quid! They are cool little college runabouts my HLX defo was, It had loads of moddies on it for 700 quid! it was a 2001 Y and had a F/S/H. They are a darn site better than Fords overpriced faulty shit!
£700 bought me a stylish car with everything in it! Alloys, Front fogs, Spoiler, 16V twin-cam, ABS, ESR, E/M, R/C/L, H/seats!!! you won't get half those with a boring old Rover 416 SLi or R reg Escort! thats usually the best cars students get!
@1ns4ne1d10t I have a Mondeo 98' 1.8TD with over 320tys kilometres on a counter. I don't have any troubles with that car. Even in spite of the fact that has an "F" in a name.
@SwPiotrek My dad bought an Audi A4 1.9 TDi with 170,000 miles on the clock, £950 runs like an absolute dream. We looked at a £1,100 97 1.8TD Mondeo with 165,000 miles. Our Audi is a lot better for its money, the Mondeo rattled inside, didn't have climate control, no height adjuster for passenger, No arm rest. Our Audi is silent inside & has all the creature comforts.
@1ns4ne1d10t You just bought one in poor condition, wiht poor equipment . Buy another one in good condition, well equipment, so you will be very happy from that car. Just like me ;)
@SwPiotrek If I have a choice of an Audi or a Ford Ghia for the same price I'd walk away with the Audi anyday, Audi's are more superior to any Ford. Our Audi A4 was not only cheaper than a Ford, the 1.9 engines are better then those escort diesels, the cabins & plastics are a better quality, the whole car is better full-stop. We won't be stepping back down to Ford thanks.
