The PoTC flicks make a thing of parents validating their children - Teague and Jack, Bootstrap and Will, the Governor and Elizabeth. I'd say Jack got lucky collecting his salute from Dad in the form of a hat toss instead of having his heart cut out.

I think that the reason why the other pirates didn't fight is because the Dutchman and the Pearl were the champions of the two fleets. The champions fought, one lost, and while the other pirates were shocked, another ship snuck up on the Pearl. They were probably just waiting for the Dutchman to beat it. They probably made most of the preparations during the Maelstrom while the pirates were distracted.

I think it's because that once the whirlpool resided, they had to face the rest of the armada, and since the rest of the armada was destroyed, they didn't have to fight. It could also be a sense of unity, like if a soldier singlehandedly ends the war, the rest of the soldiers are going to cheer.
