The wonderful Lizzie. In my book one of the visually finest aircraft in WW2 and flown by some of the bravest pilots. Worth reading is Hugh Verity's book "We landed by moonlight" to get the essence of the aircraft and it's fliers.
Amazing plane. Great to see it. Was interesting to hear what the chap had to say at the begining. Also...it was perhaps the best Airfix kit, when I was a kid. Came with a little SOE chap and every thing. Thanks for posting
As all the comments above have said these aircraft and crew flew such vital missions it is a scandal that they have not been recognised, they flew french and british agents in and out of france with no defencive armament, at night each and every one of them are heroes.
And remember, the brave pilots who flew these Lysanders during WW2 used to fly by night into German occupied France and Belgium to pick up agents to return to England. No GPS,no ILS, just dead reckoning navigation, and a few lights in a field to guide them in.
Magical. The best air displays I ever saw took place at Strathallan and this brought it all back to me. Fantastic to see the Lysander in the air. Those were the days!
