A legal war? Most ridiculous thing in the world. 1. Self-Defense or 2. United Nation permission. If those are the only two ways then 99% of the wars ever start were illegal. How do you even start a war? Someone has to start it and who are the United Nations to think they are the only ones who can give a different government the permission to start a war. People who sign on to the armed forces--VOLUNTARILY--then decide that they made a mistake are NOT 'resisters'. You can't compare these people to those who fled conscription in the 1960s, who really had no choice. These 'resisters' probably wanted the scholarships and whatnot that accrue from military service. My undestanding in combat arms is they must be double volunteers. 1st to join the military and 2nd they must volunteer for combat arms. This guy volunteered twice then changed his mind when he saw dead bodies and apparently got scared. His political opinions probobly had nothing to do with his desertion until later. He took it upon himself to desert his fellow soldiers in the face of danger. We are all different and react to war differently, but are accountable for our actions.
