@celicaguy81 the L in VVTL-i and vtec its not just and exhaust lift. it does both intake and exhaust cams. whats the point of opening the exhaust valve more if u dont have more gas and fuel mixture to get rid off?? it doesnt make sense. even single overhead cams on hondas that are vtec do both intake and exhaust lifts.
its like putting a bigger cam on a v8 only difference vvtl-i and vtec can choose when to use the bigger cam lobe. when this happens valve open more and more fuel and gas gets in the cylinder which make the noticeable loud noise when it engages. learn ur stuff first man.
@averagejimmy. altho toyotas vvtl-i and vtec has basically the same function it is not just a valve timing change. almost all cars now have variable valve timing. but wat makes lift and vtec activiation different is that the cam have two lobes per valve. one small lobe for low rpm and a bigger lobe for high rpm. whenever activiation point is reached oil pressure on both toyotas and hondas make the cam shift to its high lobe not changing valve timing but the actual valve lift and duration.
I have a catback system called the Kazuma. It's basically a straight pipe. I'll have to take a video during summer when it's on the road. You can hear lift from like a mile away :)
mine is a 04 GTS ( VVTL-i) in the uk, and it redlines at just short of 8200rpm o0 however, when I put mine on a dyno its max power was at just over 7800.
if it is a 04 then its redline is at 7800.,. it has the restrictions.. its an 04!!! if you had a 00' or 01' you could rev to bout 8300.. get a power fc and tune it.. ;)
@jonvtec You went back on what you said. You said first that the 04 and 03 are 8400 and the 02 and 05 are 7800, now you say the 04 goes to 7800....huh?
@jonvtec only the 2000 could do that because those restrictions were put into effect in late 2000 when 01's were being produced. the 2000's were made in 99 and early 2000. i have a 2000 gts and i love it. also, the lift in the 2000's started at 6000 and after that because of restrictions and such (and more concern in fuel economy) they bumped the lift up to around 6500-6700. small range that varies by every car
Powerhousewanted, your max power might be at 7800rpm, but you should still take it to redline. the higher the rpms when you shift, the closer you are to your powerband in the next gear.
Sorry te37drift, but at what pint did I say I don't redline when Im going for it? On a straight with good shifting you don't have to be at redline, it just helps. On track days heel-toe just the job of keeping me in the lift range anyway.
get a power fc.. and get it tuned.. you can lower the lift engagement and have a 9k rev limiter but you wont make power up all the way to 9 so its kinda pointless.. but if your going to be taking it that far you would need to have internals..
haha thats what mine sounds like into lift, cant get enough ;) try some tunnels or concrete barriers, it sounds like a ferrari 360 or somethin. muhaha
yeah too bad the damn camera died.. haha. its running a greddy evo2 exhaust but at the time i think it was unbolted exhaust.. we had just came back from the track
oh actualy i barely got the car , like a few weeks ago and i did hit lift but i wasnt really pressing the gas alot, but today i did and yeah def noticed lift kicking in. the rpm even went faster and everything, it sounds so great! even at stock! im waiting on my k&n kit to come in and damn it should sound clean!
great ..it has potential then.. yeah it should sound good with that intake.. if you want to hear the vtec pop.. unbolt the exhaust from the back lower control arm.. its easy.. and harmless to the car.. i felt a little difference when i took it off.. it felt way better torque wise
ya but cali laws will bite me in the ass. lol. but yea im the first owner that ever hit lift on the car, i bought the car in impecable condition, 01 gts barely going onto 60k miles and oil change and every maintenance on time.
i own civic type r uk spec and i agree hondas avnt got much in the low revs and withput vtec wudnt b much. but people say vxrs and sts are great. im sorry theyre crap b-coz what wud a honda b like if they put a turbo on theyre civic. it keeps up if not beats sts and vxrs. iv got a hondata chip on mine and iv lowered the vtec change over point and its faster naw than b4 ;) vtec rules
for crying out loud, Lift and V-TEC are the same thing, its just variable valve timing. the computer gets programed to change the valve timing at a certain rpm to give the car more power... alfa invented this little trick decades ago and then honda copied it... without vtec honda have nothing good (cept for nsx's they were sweet)
@averagejimmy Sorry your wrong vvti and vtec are the same. The L in vvti-l stands for lift. And does not adjust timing but opens the exhaust valve more after 6000 rpm. which is like having a bigger exhaust cam above 6000rpm with no lope or poor idle.
yeah very similar to a honda.. it's called lift.. VVTL-I variable valve timing and lift with intelligence...which was released in 98' that was created by yamaha and toyota.. when you hear lift it is pretty much sayin vtec kickd it... it kicks a 6k
i drive a honda and i dont hate on celicas. in-fact i like them alot. i am faster than my friends 03 gt tho. but i do drive a 94 dx with a d15b swap and a greddy turbo kit putting down 179 whp at 7 psi. so it was quite easy lol
All that noise to get to 35 mph? Christ......

i suppose it could help scavenging, but tbh i think vvtli and vtec are pretty crude systems anyway. sound good though

@SoL21jeanne you dont have lift...you have variable valve timing on your inlet cam thats it.

im pretty sure.. try it.. you shouldnt hear the rev limiter at bout 8200-8300ish..
they say the 2000 is the fastest model being the first year and it not having all the restrictions the newer ones have..

what do you mean pop the rev limiter.. if you have A 94 gts your celica redlines at 7800 no more.. unless you have A TUNED power fc

its 2004, not 94. i want my redline at 9k
