oh, i'm so glad they have actually translated this cartoon..when I was young it was one of my favourites..and it still is!

and yeah, this is not only to do with alcoholism but also with orphans whose parents just leave them in hospitals cuz they simply don't want to have children or can't "afford to have them" because they're kids/teenagers themselves..

because she adopts him without him realizing she's not his real mom... his real mom had died many years ago but he managed to survived in the ice... also in the context of the russian reality of the time, with a lot of orphanages all around (i remember that from my childhood there), that takes on a double layer of sadness

I've no idea, I guess it had to do with some parents' alcoholism, which was considered a 'national plague' in Russia, and pretty much still is today as far as I know

Oh my gosh. I know this movie has a happy ending, but it's so sad! I cried watching this, I feel so happy yet so bad for the baby mammoth.
