  • @SP93TR This scene a scam? Are you sure? Maybe it's not clear from the vid, but if I remember right, the voxels are about 3cm in size here and the average thickness of the surface could be some 1-2m. That could be few 100's MV (Mvoxels). And you cannot compress few 100's Mbits to less then a few petabytes? Btw my current compression scheme would shrink this particular scene to well below 5MBs, and it's getting better - every ~6 months the memory footprint of voxels in AE shrinks by half.

  • @SP93TR I like Notch and all too, but god damn. Notch was referencing ONE VIDEO. It doesn't invalidate all voxel-based games. He's not calling all voxels in the world a scam.

Please take the time to actually understand something before you try to go on a crusade about it. Moreover, stop using empty words yourself to try to win an argument. You're not proving anything either. You're just flinging dirt and feeling superior for it.

  • @herrincardia I don't like Notch at all. He's an annoying guy with no vision. And I definitely dot call all voxel based games a scam. But I am not supposed to prove anything. The guy that is asking for donations and grants is supposed to prove that his software actually works. And by the way , what do you mean try to understand something? There is nothing to understand , people have been begging this guy to explain his method and the only thing we have gotten are new promises and even crazier claims

  • @SP93TR You see this is pointless.. if you cannot multiply 3 numbers then you cannot make any serious judgements, not even about the simplest things. Your lies are your fault, not mine, so please don't bother me with these stupidities... Thank you. (btw the fact that I haven't released AE on the web doesn't mean that people haven't tested it already)

  • @AtomontageEngine Pathetic. What a loser!

  • @SP93TR You are a complete idiot.

  • @SP93TR I'm not sure how up Notch's ass you are. You read his article and you fanatically worship his opinion. You take his words for granted without (I presume) knowing shit about this matter.

  • @SP93TR Nice job reading notch's tumblr...

Besides Notch said that it would be that way if everything was made out of voxels, but this is just the dirt that is made out it (what I know) and the rocks and car is (probably) just good old polygons

  • Ever notice that the lighting in most voxel demos is flat? Yeah, that's the part that needs to be overcome for it to compete with traditional rendering.

  • cool a bad driver and tracks in dirt everything we need...

  • I find these easy to masturbate too

  • Something like that was used in a game called "Vangers: One for the Road" about 13 years ago.

  • That game looks fun...

  • Thumbs up if you were sent here by Notch's blog post about "Unllimited Detail"

  • @Dalant117 And if I knew about this before notch?

  • @Dalant117 DERP

  • @Dalant117 I knew about this before Minecraft....

  • lookin' good!

  • lol he must have been doing doghnuts before they started recording

  • Gf "Why are you watching this honey?"

Me "Look at the tracks! It looks amazing!"

    Gf "That's stupid honey..."

    Me "..... :("

  • I would say this have the same graphic quality as supposed to 2011 tessellation 3dmark 11,( from the video quality point of view). You used 2004 hardware.

Can you edit the voxel shaders to do circular instead of square?

  • This was incredible!

  • notch sent me here

  • Thumbs up if notch sent you here

  • reminds me of red faction

  • Notch.

  • @xJirachi81x You actually believe Notch, the man who "released" his game so he could stop working on it?

  • @xJirachi81x is a faggot

  • @xJirachi81x >80 thumbs up because OMG I BELONG IN A GROUP LOLOL

    Stay classy, YouTube.

  • @TheOtherLioyd you actually care about thumbs up? sad.

  • @xJirachi81x Nigga please.

  • Notch sent me here

  • Notch sent me to check this out...

  • i want to play this game!

  • @Zementid a gaming PC from 2004 or 2005 should be fine (I've implemented over half of the code on a PC from 2002 or 3 and that one was not even a good gaming machine .. and the engine worked quite well there:)

  • @AtomontageEngine would this run on my old pc? 1.7ghz Pentium 4, Geforce 2MX, 1gb ddr ram?

  • Wow some one doing fucking donuts, I do this shit in my truck all the time.

  • Zen gardening with a truck

  • RWJ didnt send me here!!!...why NOTCH DID! lol xD

  • There were a million better ways to demonstrate it besides that... It was very hard to tell the sand was even moved, rather than just drawn over.

  • this might be because i'm hungry but do some of though rock look like stacks of pancake to you?

  • Euclideon was a scam....read about it first

  • lol at theparakeet.

  • @MrNicktheparakeet no, why?

  • @MrNicktheparakeet at least atomage's engine is, you know, A WORKING ENGINE

  • @AtomontageEngine UD =/= Atomontage, Bruce Dell in a recent interview said that in the future both engines may be combined. Although UD is looking impressive, Atomontage has something really revolutionary, physics! Erosion! Destructible environments!

Imagine a world with wind, with construction, with destruction, with erosion.... AWESOME!

Good luck UD and Atomontage! I hope I will see a game made by this technologies in the next console generation, and I wish I can invest in Atomontage :)

  • @MrNicktheparakeet

You're not very smart, are you?

  • @CRE8IVEdits u mad? cant accept this engine is dead and Euclideon will win.

  • @MrNicktheparakeet

An engine is an engine, not all games are going to suddenly switch to Euclideon just because of infinite shit.

Simple PC games and not mainstream games will still use an engine like this.

  • @MrNicktheparakeet Euclideon is a scam

  • @Amnickiller you havent seen the latest video have you?/watch?v=JVB1ayT6Fdc&list=FL4H3UVe0MsUk&index=1 so now you see they render a live preformance with the engine, if thats not proof enough i dont know what is.

  • @Amnickiller Euclideon may or may not be a scam. I highly doubt you have any facts or proof to back up that acquisition so I would shut up and stop blindly listening to some guy who just states a bunch of numbers that, in your brain, make you think he is a genius. So get some facts before blindly following some maniac that can say big numbers to impress you and gain your support. I'm NOT hating on Notch, he is a good fellow who is a great game developer.

  • @MrNicktheparakeet

Lol... Euclideon is a company that uses the same kind of technology, and they haven't invented anything or revolutionized anything. They just embellish the truth.

  • @MrNicktheparakeet stupid ass

  • @MrNicktheparakeet I was gonna say somthing about euclideon but naw im good

  • Looks like you'd use up a lot of memory just to make donuts with a pick-up van in the middle of the desert. Great technology nonetheless but I don't think its very memory effective for video game use.

  • download link plox???

  • i am very much impressed

  • lolNotch

  • the most epic video ever......a blue truck doing donuts in a desert.....

  • damn that van/truck has a shitload of body roll

  • I hope this is like the future of GTA.

  • NEED TO MAKE FALLOUT 1-2 with thta engine

  • I would pay $10 just to play this tech demo.

  • @Wardropulous I remember playing just like this with a buddy in Smugglers Run. We'd have the 'massive trucks' and just climb around everywhere and anywhere for hours. We even made it up towards the 'end' of the level.

  • @Wardropulous i would pay £50 jk....

  • @Wardropulous ...why

  • @Wardropulous I'd do that if there was a tank with tracks in addition to the truck, it would really make the wheel tracks show.

  • Thumbs up if you knew about this for months and are annoyed bt all the Notch-related comments.

Let's see how this turns out...

  • @frubban

What you're saying is you're a faggot hipster?

  • @frubban Stop being such a pretentious little twat.

  • @frubban I Think it can be forgiven since the video came out over a year ago. Most videos just turn to troll comments by then.

  • @willrandship I guess you're right.

  • I liked the part where the vehicle drives around.

  • Thanks notch

  • Notch sent me

  • Am I the only one that see's clipping errors?

  • @TheFamine123

    Yep.

  • o/` o/` I've been everywhere, man ... o/` o/`

  • I think she was trying to park the car but in the end she figured out that the parking lot was way too small and drove off to find another... :D

  • This looks great.

  • looking good

  • they may actually make a war game where you have to worry about the terrain your going to cross. it would make for much more interesting gameplay if only a tank could pass a certain area, or only a very light vehicle could.

  • Notch sent me.... :P

  • @FearlessLT

short and sweet, without the "hurrrrr thumbs up if notch sent me here kthanx bai!"

    +like.

  • @Vladdyboy that's how it should be, but then again people resort to random bs saying "i got a boner from this video thumbs up" or something even more gross. Want to earn a thumbs up - write something simple & creative that everyone will like. Thanks for the support ;)

  • I was driving the car...

  • That would be so good for drawing shit with bullet hole's online!

  • Wow, fucking retarded comments on 99% of this video -.-

Anyway, I love this, I hope it's really the future of gaming/3D animation!

  • Wow thats really cool i just want to know what it takes to run that :P also it looks like borderlands with less pasty graphics :D

  • This is how I drove the first time I got into a car

  • Pinkie Pie sent me here.

  • 0:58 look at the skid, wheel would make thicker tracks its bullshit

  • @jordannw2010 For.

    Fucks.

    Sake.

THIS SHIT IS REAL, IT'S NOT THE ENGINE THAT NOTCH CALLED A FAKE.

    THINK MAN THINK.

  • @jordannw2010 it's maybe twice as wide as the usual tracks

  • FUCK NOTCH. little jealous prick. made one game and thinks he knows everything about programming. retard that is.

  • @legendarysannin65 Look, You have made only videos and you think you know everything about programming. Jealous much O_o

  • @legendarysannin65 Also, Notch is correct that a vast amount of what is happening here is based on a "Voxel" style of rendering, Your just moving around a ton of small little atoms that move to react to the tire pressure on them ( a collision event ) and also, He is correct that between all the things needed to render a full blown world would take much more memory than can be provided at the current time

  • @legendarysannin65 He has been making games his whole life you idiot. Just because he has one extremely game that he has mostly created and designed by himself, it does not mean he dumber than you.... GROW UP!

  • @Melloorr bla bla bla?

  • @legendarysannin65 extremlely great*

  • NOTCH SENT ME HERE!!! :D.

  • notch

  • Notch sent me here

  • nobody sent me here

  • cupcakes sent me here

  • notch sent me here too

  • Wow, that's very sweet.

  • WTF is a notch?

  • @biggplaya93 Notch is the inventor of "Minecraft" a new and upcoming sandbox style game (i say new its been out for 2 years and is still in development) its a great game but its not everyone's cup of tea.

  • @biggplaya93 it's what is a notch, you have to say who is notch. Notch is a gamedevelopper and made the company Mojang AB. Actually notch is his online name, his real name is Markus Persson

  • @TheRutgerbenoot it's not what's a notch*

  • @biggplaya93 LOL

  • Notch is trying to sell this to us :3

  • Idc if notch sent you here.

  • can you have a polygon character with a voxel environment?

  • @jony1710 search YouTube for 'Amok" "gameplay"

  • @jony1710 you can in a hybrid poly + voxel engine (AE is one such)

  • @AtomontageEngine so could you use polygons as a sort of scaffolding for animation then cover it with voxels for surface deformation? That would be cool. Have you seen the new vid for unlimited detail. they recorded the demo with a video camera to show it was real time. Very convincing evidence there tech works. Also they mention your engine. :P

  • @jony1710 It's fake

  • @MissPielops is it? have you seen the real time recording? you cant fake that without paying of the interviewer.

  • @jony1710 No, the unlimited detail video is fake. 100% fake.

  • @MissPielops don't pretend like what your saying is factual. You have no idea if it works or not. It does render unlimited amount of geometry in real time as the video proved it.

  • @jony1710 No it doesn't, you idiot. And I have proof:

    notch(dot)tumblr(dot)com/post/8386977075/its-a-scam

  • @MissPielops scroll down a few posts, it's titled "It's a scam" and was posted August 2nd, 2011. He also goes into more detail with the post above that. Now tell me, who's the one pretending they know what they're saying is factual? Bitch.

  • @MissPielops how on earth is that proof? Notch does not know a lot about rendering. if you look at minecraft its all very basic. He is not qualified to give a valid opinion on this. The video however is proof that it does work.

  • @jony1710 Of course he's qualified. He's an expert on voxels. Minecraft graphics aren't as basic as you think.

  • @guyboy625 Minecraft graphics aren't as advanced as you think. He's simply taking voxels stored in a byte array and forming polygons from the data. That's not very difficult to do at all.

  • @guyboy625 I have been programming for about 2 months now and I know that all minecraft is is a 3d table of points with a block ID asighned to each one that determains what texture is painted to that cube. The game is awefuly unotimised and he doesn't do any sort of search algorythim to render unlimited detail and I doubt he has even tried. Trust me when I tell you he is a very basic programmer.

  • @jony1710 LOL! Notch has been programming for years, he is definitely NOT a very basic programmer, he knows tons more than you do. You are correct in saying its unoptimised, thats because it already runs decently on slow hardware, and people want more content, not a few more fps.

  • @jc3dproductions saying hes better than a complete amateur programmer yes but the guys working on the automontage engines are PHD's and industry veterans much more experienced and talented than notch. Notch has always been about good game design not revolutionary technology. A 3rd year woyuld know more about programming theory than notch.

  • @jony1710 I've been programming for much longer, and yeah, I agree.

  • Comment removed

  • @jony1710 "I have been programming for about 2 months..."

  • @jony1710 If you haven't noticed, Minecraft isn't his only game. He's created tons of games that don't have as basic rendering, but just read his reasons, it's obvious he knows what he's talking about and that the people with the video are liars.

  • @MissPielops What you people fail to realize is that Notch has had no real experience with anything like this. Also I fail to see any game of his with more advanced rendering than Minecraft. Perhaps a link to one of these supposed games would be nice; however I sincerely doubt he has much experience with anything even remotely near modern 3d graphics aside from his basic polygon rendering in Minecraft.

  • @PrettyPonyyy He might not have experience with MAKING games with insane graphics but it's obvious how much experience he's had with rendering. He knows what he's talking about and considering a single character runs at 36 FPS imagine a game with those 'insane graphics' that has 10-20 characters on the screen at once. How much FPS would you have then? It would be unplayable. I'm not calling this specific video fake but the one new 'unlimited detail' video IS fake, and quite obvious at that.

  • @MissPielops It's really not obvious how much experience he's had with rendering seeing as the only 3d graphics I've seen from him is Minecraft. That does not make him an expert on voxels. I'm not defending the validity of either this nor the UDT stuff, I'm just pointing out flaws in assuming Notch is an expert at anything in particular. He knows how to program, but he is far from the best. Minecraft is nothing extraordinary; it is simply a game idea he found and made a little better.

  • @MissPielops the charicter was not from UDT they have a completely diferent system for rendering voxels to the screen. Notches other games are all low budget indie titles wil basic rendering. He blatently doesn't know what he is talking about as he said that this is the same as UDT when it evidently is not. Notch is not on the cutting edge of rendering technology. If you asked sombody from nvidia then I may cansider what they say more seriously.

  • @jony1710 Considering Notch is a millionaire then I'm sure he IS indeed on the cutting edge of technology. It's not their system that is what renders a character, it's the sheer amount of pixels and RAM it takes to create ONE ultimately good quality character and it would be impossible to play with more than one character on the screen at a time.

  • @MissPielops Are you stupid? Notch is a good game designer but he is not on the cutting edge of technology. i have seen games from pre 2000 with better rendering than minecarft and all of his other games considering most of them are 2D. The amount of pixels being rendered depends on your monitor not the game environment. The whole thing with UDT is it only renders what it needs to. that's 1Byte per pixel roughly. The HDD is where you would run into problems.

  • @jony1710 No... But you MUST be stupid.. He chooses to make Minecraft the way it is, not amazingly high quality, because it's awesome the way it is and he wants to appeal to all audiences, even the ones with shitty computers. If he REALLY wanted to have a game with awesome graphics he could easily do so, by getting some new technology. Considering he's a multi-millionaire...

  • @MissPielops you obviously have no programming experience and are talking about a subject you have no understanding of as you used the word pixel completely wrong. Notch programmes in Java. this is a very basic language capable of making low performance applications quickly where as veteran programmers use c++ which is a much more advanced language that notch states that he gets confused about. Just because hes rich doesnt mean he is a good programmer. he made an addictive game not a new tech.

  • @jony1710 I didn't use the word pixel incorrectly. Characters are made of pixels, everything on the screen is made of pixels. I never said I was a programmer and you're getting completely off-topic. The unlimited detail video is fake, and Notch knows what he's talking about. You assume he's an idiot that created a decent game, but he really isn't. If he wanted to he could buy new technology and then use that technology to create a game with awesome graphics. Furthermore...

  • @MissPielops your ignorance is very apparent.

  • @jony1710 Your idiocy is very apparent.

  • @jony1710 Java was used to create Minecraft, obviously, but Notch also obviously did it well. Whether he used Java or C++ doesn't matter, the fact is that he created a multi-million dollar game. Anyone can learn C++, if Notch really wanted to he could do so easily. He could make very high definition and detailed games if he chose to.

  • @MissPielops Okay whatever but you cant dispute the fact. the video showed a laptop with 2gb ram running what could only be produced by a whole farm of computers. Therefore the technology is indisputably not fake.

  • @jony1710 The island in the video is one km^2. Let’s assume a modest island height of just eight meters, and we end up with 0.008 km^3. At 64 atoms per cubic millimeter (four per millimeter), that is a total of 512 000 000 000 000 000 atoms. If each voxel is made up of one byte of data, that is a total of 512 petabytes of information, or about 170 000 three-terrabyte harddrives full of information......

  • @MissPielops In reality, you will need way more than just one byte of data per voxel to do colors and lighting, and the island is probably way taller than just eight meters, so that estimate is very optimistic.

  • @jony1710They refuse to address the known flaws. They don’t show non-repeated architecture, they don’t show animation, they don’t show rotated geometry, and they don’t show dynamic lighting.

They invent new terminology and use superlatives and plenty of unverifiable claims.

They say it’s a “search algorithm”. That’s just semantics to confuse the issue. Sparse voxel octrees is a search algorithm to do very fast ray casting in a voxel space.

  • @jony1710 Furthermore, there isn't a computer on the face of this planet that could run something like that effectively. You might have misinterpreted what I said, I meant that they're just bull shitting everyone, not that what they did is completely fake.

  • @MissPielops okay, did you actually watch the interview where they demoed it in front of a video camera? if you did i think you might swallow some of your words. /watch?v=JVB1ayT6Fdc skip to about 22:10 for the real time demo.

  • @jony1710 They're running at 15-20 FPS, that is with absolutely no movement besides themselves whatsoever, imagine having many characters on the screen at once. You're not going to be able to make a game with Unlimited Detail.

  • @MissPielops It is still an amazing achievement. Like they said they will optimise it and when the project is finished i'm sure they will be able to make a full game. BTW having more detail does not affect rendering time with what they are doing so adding more object wont affect FPS however AI processing and physics will.

  • @jony1710 Indeed, AI processing and physics would make it very difficult to play. Although the graphics are stunning and it will be amazing when they're able to optimize it. They did an awesome job but they didn't address the obvious flaws and acted as if it was an amazing new thing that nobody thought of.

  • @MissPielops Nobody has done this before. there are voxels, they were done in the 90's but that's not the cleaver part. When notch said that this was done before he was assuming they couldn't render there demo they showed in real time. No other rendering method has allowed them to render so much detail (or so little as thy only render 1 atom per pixel on screen). This is an amazing new technology but it isn't finished yet.

  • it wasn't Notch who sent me here HA!

  • notch sent us all here.

  • notch sent me

  • this should be a game...just drive around...meet other trucks multiplayer trucks...customizing them...epik lol

  • @GreatJaiden Please, don't ever try to design a Game - for the sake of Humanity...! :'<
