It's small town accent, not an urban one. As for Newfoundland, if you visit you'll find the dialect, changes throughout the province, with a lot of people in St John's not having much of an accent at all. Also if you have the chance visit the Ottawa valley, some aspects of the accent are quite similar.

Canada is bigger than the USA, in area. But, they do also make Canada a little bit bigger in that map. As jwc7215 mentioned, Alaska is clearly smaller than it is on a regular map, and in proportion in area to Canada. Not a great deal, to be honest, but it is there.
