@LeahCinnamon I would argue she isn't a heroine because of her extremely neutral stance, she kills people unflinchingly who get in her way of travelling, stands idly by whilst evil acts occur around her. But it isn't right to say she isn't a pleasant person though! These acts are justified as the story doesn't revolve around Kino BUT the world around her, she's just the 'theatre' as the Germanic origin of her name implies. I'd say Kino is one of the most best PROTAGONISTS ever though!

@Amatugold There's also the fact that kino is just one person passing through when against the backdrop of dark traditions that have happened for a very long time. Also, the series itself often asks very difficult moral and philosophical questions for which it leaves the audience the sole responsibility of answering, thus further feeding into Kino's neutral stance.
