Ringling used Shirley for breeding when she was 7-years-old. She rejected her first baby Riccardo and Ringling killed him after he severely injured his back legs during one of Ringling's brutal training sessions. Shirley was then bred again and remains at Ringling's breeding and training facility in Florida.
