never heard of this guy. but how did he die> and he was young too. good tunes... soory dont hate me for never hearing of him. im not a big rock follower!
I'm so glad Mick and David got the chance to come together again at Freddies tribute. People talk about Morrissey and Marr, Browne and Squire ect, but Bowie and Ronson were the soundtrack and still continue to be of my life. The most underated and uncredited talent of the last centuary barr none. Lov on ya Mick, and thank you.
Why don't people like Mick Ronson go on forever? He's been gone a while now but you never get used to it. So many people say he was the best. I can't think of any reason to argue with them? Keith Richards? Good at what he does but ... not for me ... Ron Wood? I like him but ..... no. Jeff Beck? Obviously brilliant but ... no. Mick Ronson was a one off and the real deal.
Bowie did not go to Mick's memorial. And, he's not here either. I don't get it. Anyway, today is Mick's birthday. Rock on in heaven Mick. ("Colour Me" - Wow, somebody outta pick it up for a movie theme....it would be fabulous)
Bloody brilliant that this was put together (better late than never. . . took them a while (-: ).
Just think what he gave in such a short time: boggles the mind. No big ego-trip; that's not necessary when you're both a genius and a good soul (rare combination).
Mick's album "Play Don't Really" (still) means an awful lot to me: many years ago it really helped me deal, and cope, with the loss of the 'love of my life'; esp. the songs: "Angel No.9", "The Empty Bed", and "Play Don't Worry" - put that advice to good use to (eventually) carry on!
Besides the fact that Mick was a multi-talented genius, he was a genuinely nice and friendly person - a decent human being - based upon what so many others have said. (Other 'proof': the man had a tortoise as a pet!) I (strongly) suspect he was too: nice, busy, in love with playing (and life, in general) to care to get caught up in becoming a jaded 'superstar'.
Although I did not personally know Mick Ronson, I feel as though I did...through his music. When I learned of his untimely and unfortunate death, I felt as though I had lost a good friend.
His loss still saddens me; however, I now think of him as my 'patron saint of music', and keep him alive in my memory, by replaying his music: whether out loud, or, just in my head.
Still...wish I'd been fortunate enough to have actually known him personally...!
of all the guitarists i've ever heard, mick ronson had the most soul, balls, edge..the whole package. The one thing he didn't have, 'thankfully' was virtuoso technical ability..his was just raw straight from the heart.. god bless this spider from mars!!!
I spoke to Mick twice. Once at The Marquee in the mid Seventies and a year before he died at South Ken. He is just like the people say in this vid. He makes you feel 10 feet tall. He was so special as a person.
Mick is my guitar hero and an influence to me and many others. He passed away on the same day I got married. So it's a day I have more then one reason to mourn.
Not all of it is in the public domain. there is much more to come via people who knew him and fans sending us personal footage. This is going to be a documentary in a style that has not been done before. so much to fit in. Should be out at the end of the Summer.
He did at a live show. I know because I saw the video. Bowie is calling out to him "Hey Ronno". I think it was a tribute to Queen or something. Mick gets that sustained "ebow" sound on his guitar ;-)

sadly to say the last time i spoke to him i was begging him to abandon his TELE for
the LES PAUL (i had latter heard this was common banter for him and Ian) musta thought a crash street kid was coming to get'im.
the most poetic rocking player i have seen and heard to date regardless of what guitar he had chosen!... And truly a gentleman to all !!!

May Mick not simply R.I.P. - but - somehow keep on rocking; whether, in Heaven, 'Hull', or in spirit: in our heads and hearts!

Mick's guitar on "Heroes" - brilliant.
Oh, and well done, Lisa ;)

I'm afraid he didn't play on "Heroes", that was Robert Fripp/Carlos Alomar.
But you're right, Mick is brilliant
