  • Yes, but my point is that the Allison has to relearn each time you drastically change the horsepower with your tuning...the 48RE and 47RH are great because they don't have to go through a relearn process. So for the application that I'm speaking of, you're incorrect. I have a 600rwhp+ 1200ft/lb torque Duramax with a stage 5 Suncoast Gmax tranny. I know this from experience. I'm running around 400hp on my low tune and around 622hp on my high. Single turbo, stock internals on the motor...

  • The Allison is a good tranny for under 500hp...anything over that and you're going to slip the converter or worse...so then you build it. Truth be told, the best tranny for a performance diesel is a BUILT 48RE(dodge tranny) because it's not all computerized. The allison hurts if you like to drive on the street and then give your truck hell because it adapts and thinks too much....

  • pretty cool. totally a duramax fan. only one other diesel that can compare and thats the cummins, but only the engine, not the joke of a truck they put it in. great engine, horrible truck. but i love the DMAX and its Allison tranny. and they wrap it all up in the chevy trucks. in my oppinion it a solid buy and i wouldnt trade mine for the world

  • ahhh not so true about the allison.. i have a 03 duramax with a allison and at 700hp it blinked... it blinked enough that it cost me 7 grand.. but now its a killer combo.. wouldnt trade it for anything...

  • i enjoyed this video and have nothing negative to say about dmax. they are great. i drive a 6.0 psd and it does what its supposed to and is modded and has had zero problems. problem with pwerstrke guys is they like em big always an to make that lift / tire combo go you have to overload boost..ect & that leads u to problems. Let it be stock height and modified and be happy with the speed and mpg

  • @angel978936 well they didnt support 40psi in a buddies 05 ford, but we fixed that problem by dropping an 06 24 valve in it, its pushing 75psi with the help of twin turbos and holding it well.

  • NO, they arn't. Had a Duramax/Allison Kodiac. Tranny went into limp mode at 62,000, and failed at around 70,000. Traded that in on a 7.3/4R100 F450, that still runs, and shifts fine to this day

  • i think your one against a thousand here..... personally i have never had a problem with my duramax with an allison and it has about 75k on it, and listening to what my friends and people i have talked to , they love the allison , but our personal experience says nothing, statistics do, and personally i dont care enough to look, do you ? but i have a tendency to sell vehicles that make me walk, chevy has never mad me walk, ford, a couple times...

  • Never had to walk with any of our Fords, even when they do break, they still get me home, and their are lots of videos on youtube with slipping allisons, or of allisons going into limp mode

  • the Kodiak Duramax is tuned different, and has slightly different design to meet to Medium Truck Duty standard regulations

  • That doesnt have anything do with the durability of the tranny, especially because the Kodiak is rated at 10hp less

  • I guess thats why a few Duramax diesel owners making big power swap out their big, complicated, boat anchor Allison transmissions with simple and tiny bulletproof billet 47RE transmissions. Dodge trannies aren't the best from the factory but they have more potential than all the rest. Look up "DuraFlite transmission" or "Buck Spruill" He uses a 47re and has the fastest 1/4 mile stock chassis duramax truck in the world.

  • Buck Spruill put the duraflite in his truck ,yes, but it wasn't because the allison isnt strong enough its because when u put that much power to an allison the computer freaks out and because it doesnt know what to do and it want shift right. Allisons are way more technologicly advanced then either of ford or dodges trans and the reason they are using the 47RE trans is because its just a plain easy trans to get to shift right with alot of power behind it.

  • so really the 47RE isnt a better trans, just a dumber trans. And the owner of maxdout duramax will say the same thing. he holds the super street class record at 10.0s and has ran 9.8s with slicks and he has a 47RE too

  • the 47RE was barely rated from the factory to handle what the B-series Cummins could put out....but yes the Duramax guys are using heavily modified 47RE and 48RE's please get your facts correct. from the factory the allison performs the best atleast until ford unveils their new trans...the problem with the allison has to do with the goofy tcm

  • look into the prostock diesels running the duramax...some of them are making too much power for the GM TCM and its easier to use the 'dumber' dodge transmission built by suncoast or other manufacturers because the 'learning' computer in the allison TCM is a pain in the ass at their power levels

  • ok im 15 but know alot about motors,cars,trucks.

    my dad has a 2007 2500 6.6 duramax with a allison tranny. he has a bullydog chip,green cold air intake, 5inch silverline exhaust turbo back. and spun turbo at about 20 psi. he dyno'ed it about 2 months ago and it was hitting about close to the 800 range and about 1000 tq. he only has had to repair the tranny fluid lines because they blew up from the pressure. it blows the doors off all 4 bangers, and alot of beamers. fasted we drove in it was 150

  • ahhhh first of all 800 hp and 1000 tq is not a realistic number for a diesel. thats not near enough torque for 800 hp.

    i admit the LBZ duramax is one bad mammajamma but with just chip and turbo, i could see probably 500-550 hp. i know a couple of lbz duramaxes with efi live and lift pump that are runnin around 550 hp

    and even that power level required a built tranny

  • I had a 2005 Duramax but I wish I had my brother's 2006 because the difference in heads is unbelievable to the point that the weakest chip will do what you just saw. I could beat 2006 Mustang GT 5 speeds with my '05 chipped with exhaust. This engine is winning F1 indy car races right now.

  • depends on the type of tuners you get and what all you get done. if ya got a duramax i would say get EFI Live. its cheap and you can build ur own custom tunes

  • Actually, the cummins is the heaviest diesel in the light truck market. It's also the only one that will hold over 700 hp completely stock and still be a reliable daily driver. The limit on a stock cummins is around the 1100 rwhp range. The dmax is known to come apart in the 5-600's. The ford, well it's not the best for modding. I respect those that do, it's just more of an uphill battle for them.

  • Dmax and Cummins motors can handle just about whatever you can put on them. The question of reliability comes with the everything else. A 700 hp cummins with a stock tranny would fall it as soon as you put the pedal down. A dmax with 700 hp would have real trouble with the power too but the allison tranny can handle it better than any cummins. Cummins are good trucks but its hard to beat a dmax.If A5M5G has a built tranny 700 hp is easy to get in a dmax.I wouldnt trade my dmax lb7 for any truck.

  • The (stock) allison will take a crap at over 400hp. It will also skip shift into N to protect its self.

  • This is my opinion, but Corvettes really do nothing for me anymore. The original corvette is the only one that really "strikes" me as a beautiful car. The new Z06 is pretty insane, but the quality aspect is missing really. The interior is soemthing that hasn't really ever been that great on corvettes. I do agree that it has the best "bang for the buck" but I don't agree that the quality is there in corvettes.
