  • HI! THis the best performance I have ever seen of the Moonlight Sonata on guitar. Is there any way of getting hold of the sheet music for this version? Thank you for an amazing performance!

  • Bravo! Pure talent and musical beauty

  • great job :)

  • he looks like he wants to puke

  • What ever key its played in, you play this piece beautifully, with such feeling, thank you!

  • bravo...

  • why does this guy always give me one packet of soya sauce for 2 large containers of fried rice.

  • Perfect tempo!!! People often play this too slow and it becomes a bit boring. I used to play this at the piano, it is so romantic and inspiring, it has energy to it, lovely to hear it with a guitar! Nice touch (who cares if there were a couple of mistakes, technique is not everything, interpretation is what gives the piece a soul).

  • omg the lips.. ROFL

  • ok first of all, If h'es gonna play the gmF then play the open E jackass!

  • This song was actually written (and probably should be played in) C# Minor!!

  • @olifudge not physically possible with a guitar in standard tuning

  • Look at his face! So concentrated.... I myself forget to breath during playing........ therefore I cant play a whole song

  • think he's gonna lose his lunch? (steps away)...Lovely song though.

  • que meneo de boca tiene el jodio...

  • Not good. Strength all over the place.

  • I would love to see the "dislikers" play this.....on guitar, not piano. Any takers.......no? That's what I thought.

  • lastima que no esta en el tiempo perfecto porque esta melidia es en adagio sostenido

  • yea have to agree with Dash, this rendition has the element that most music on youtube lacks. if you don't enjoy this you just flat out don't like a great classical instrumental on guitar.

  • Ok rly there are people who actually pressed the dislike button.Father, hear my plea, forgive them of sin

  • well played,chapeaux!

  • great arrangement and playing! Impressive Beethoven on solo guitar!!!

  • 1:29 to 1:40 nice voicing! I like those deep bass melodies there hauntingly beautiful for that part. To be a bit honest some parts were choppy but not so much that I'm being overly critical. I still enjoyed it. :)

  • god i love the sound of classis guitar. its so calming.

  • watch this guys neck haha

  • this is MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • thats very beautiful,..and i didnt know that stuff abou tthe keys either very informative although,..the information makes alot of sense if you really think about it..:) i love when its right in front of you and you dont even realise it. thanks for sharing this with us.

  • How do you know what key a song is in?

  • @hoopz2598

Usually the bass note at the end of the music will tell you what key the piece is in. The last (low) note in the "Moonlight" is A. So it happens to be in A minor. Whether minor or major is distinguished by the 3rd note in the harmony. If it is a major 3rd played (in the last chord) it designates a major key. In this case the "Moonlight" ends with a minor 3rd.

  • @TimHGuitar Thanks I didn't know that about keys!

  • easier to see it at the beginning tho xD

btw, i so hate that chord at 0:40, im always near to break my fingers 0o

    amazingly played btw... ^^

  • @TimHGuitar

I don't get what you mean by the 3rd note in the harmony......or a major 3rd. What makes a chord a major 3rd? Can't you also determine the key of a song by taking the chords played in the song....and those chords, w/e scale they are in, then that is the key. So if a song has A Chord, A Minor Chord, G Chord, and C Chord then if all those notes are in an A Major Scale, then the song is in A Major, right?

  • @TimHGuitar Do you use rest strokes in this song?

  • @WinterMadness05

Only on some notes. I don't use rest strokes on every melody note.. just those that I want to have more weight.

  • @TimHGuitar usually correct but i wouldnt use that as a way of recognising a key in a song

  • @MoxixDubstep

Yes, just usually correct, but not always. Even the Beatles sometimes ended a song on a chord that was not the ONE chord of the key that the song was written in.

  • @TimHGuitar Deceptive Cadence they call it. Ending on the sub mediant (6).

  • @TimHGuitar I've always used the first chord of the song and from there on assumed it was in that key and mess around from there. I don't really use scales and such though so for me it's been a good pointer, when wrong I'd hear it and move around the neck a little more.

  • @TimHGuitar can't it be Cmajor?

  • @hoopz2598 The starting note or the end note is almost always the tonic. However on the note of transcriptions this piece is a minor and for any quarrels appearing in the comments the original moonlight sonata is in c# minor.

  • @hoopz2598 you can play it in any tone but i would assume it is in an A Minor

    i myself play this in E Minor/ D major

  • @hoopz2598 It begins in the key of A minor

  • @hoopz2598 It is in C# minor which relates to the E major for theory purposes as the beginning signature shows four sharps as proof via C# , F# , G# , and a D# the rest of the notes being natural notes B , A , E for the other three notes of all modes being used , other than that he is mixing a harmonic minor add in note by raising the 7 th note from the normal B minor 7th to C major 7th instead on some changes and he uses alot of diminshed otherwise, but this song is in C# minor

  • @hoopz2598 The G# portion represents the phrygian and he also uses alot of that in this song ... so altogether we have Key of C# minor(natural minor ,C# Harmonic minor(A natural minor with a raised 7th)G# Phrygian, E diminished and I really suspect that B Locrian (a minor with a flatted 2 nd and a flatted fifth known as a tri tone note) and B Locrian does relate to C# minor via thier parent the E major scale which Sonata does not play the E major in this but it is a relating reference

  • A minor?

  • @funknotik

Yes, this is transscription is in A minor.

  • @TimHGuitar Cool thanks man, I think I can figure it out now by watching your performance.

  • @TimHGuitar no transposed a D minor

  • great tone in your hands plus great natural warm sounding of your guitar as well...great great great :-)

  • It is rare seeing someone playing an instrument with so much love..

Thank you for sharing this with us...

  • I didn't read all the comments so this may have been asked: IS this the Barrios transcription?" I am curious. A guy from my ensemble class was learning "moonlight sonata" and I reccomended the Barrios transcription so, I might reccomend this video as a reference if so.

  • @ZzOoTtZz

It was Barrios who first transcribed the Moonlight onto the guitar and he did it in the same key as this version. This particular transcription was by Laurendo Almeida, but I have the feeling that he based it on Barrios' version. The main difference is that Barrios uses harmonics to sound the melody at one point (which is not in the style of Beethoven), and it sounds a bit out of place. That is why I stayed with the Almeida version.

  • HEY!!! YOU ARE VERY COOL!!! My idol!!! I think there are a few Versions of this piece. . . . was planning to learn this song as i thought it's easy because its slow. got the score. . could not reach the mid way mark and when up youtube to see you guys play and realize i got the same score as you had there. . . this might take up a few months for me to learn i think D= m(n_n)m

  • You messed up the rythme :D And for sure i'm jocking IT IS AMAZING <3 :D

  • tim, respond if you so please. im trying to learn this song on guitar because my older sister has learned it on piano. do you have any tips as far as techniques, or how to easily play this song?

  • @stratacaster0302

Hum... I learned this song a long time ago and the posting that you see is actually about 15 years ago. I would say that I learned this through repetition and the love of the music. Play the melody by itself and connect all the notes with a clear understanding of each phrase. Then play the piece with that clear understanding of the melody. You can do this with the bass line as well as the supporting harmony (all by themselves) until you have a clear hearing of the lines.

  • @TimHGuitar thanks tim. ive been repeatedly playing it again and again and i seem to be getting closer to nailing down each of the parts.

  • cogetelo al chino dsp de que hizo eso!

    que capo por dios xD

  • Good but a bit too fast though...

  • You have to play that Sonata in C#m. It's not impossible as they say.

  • Good job

  • Hi Tim , This is really good. Very inspiring , a great piece of music that is acheivable on guitar and now something i will go away and have a go of myself..thanks for the inpsiration and watch this space.

  • @evanssrw

Thanks for the comment. Good luck with the music!

  • I play this at the piano..... It's wonderfull!!!!!!!

  • I wish he blew some chunks during this beautiful cover of moonlight sonata.

  • good playing but what about his mouth

  • @Devilwoundes ap tis polles pipes einai re,,

  • @Devilwoundes

    yeah

    what's in his mouth = =^

  • @i0wnDaWorld awesomeness!

  • Awful , uneven, just bad

  • I love how he smiles during the first E chord- I don't know if it's because that's when Beethoven plays the parallel E major chord to the C minor key or because he misses the high B- he nails it before the second parallel E major chord, though. Very cool. This is impressive and my favorite sonata by Beethoven. It is way way way way way better than Fur Elise. Although, the other sonatas are really cool too. late-18th Century goodness.

  • @mindovermattjr u need to get laid ! :P or to listen some led zeppelin...

  • έκαψαν το αυτοκίνητο του Κανάκη

  • @stepminestepminestep you're a cock.

  • great transition sounds wonderful

  • a little bit too fast... but nonetheless awesome

  • too fast...but great

  • Un poco sucia la ejecución

  • simplemente hermoso,.......estupendo manejo de la guitarra y muy buena tecnica .......felicitaciones

  • VERRY NICE TIM

  • Too fast... he would play it perfectly otherwise . very nice Best song ever

  • That was very enjoyable Tim. ou are a vey talented musician. This is my favorite melody and it is rare to find a musician who hits evey note perfactly with this peice

  • nice, but I think it's too fast

  • Indeed m8 you look kind of stoned but you played that beautifully =D

  • the feelings are put in the piece...unlike other they revive it jazz or somethings.., they dont know watz with this musical piece... i love it

  • Muy bien maestro....se oye de maravilla.

  • great playing but TOO FAST. the moonlight sonata is a gentle song, it sounds to rushed here.

  • Greeeeat playing, Tim! Quite strange faces you make too ahah! When I play I usually start chewing on my own tongue, so I guess I'm also a bit strange...eheh

Congratulations, really good and, as already someone said, very inspiring.

  • Thanks very much and Excelent , Tim now i can play Moonlight Sonata with your video this is a great beatiful song of Beethoven.

  • Great playing Tim. You're inspiring!

  • seems to me like this guy is about to throw up....great playing though

  • @apocatie34 Every great musician has a concentration face. I've seen some pretty funny ones.

  • Not flawless, but certainly impressive. Perhaps a little more vibrato on some end-notes? Great job at any rate.

  • Hi Tim ; I really enjoyed your performance of the Moonlight Sonata . Thank you for sharing it with us . Can you recommend a book to learn classical guitar ?

  • Thanks for your kind comments. On the subject of a book, if you are an adult and are motivated, then I think the Aaron Shearer books are a quick way to get acquainted with the classical guitar. Some kind of instruction, just to check posture and hand and wrist positions is extremely helpful, though.

    tim

  • @shsrtcvin100 if you're serious, you need a good teacher. you won't get far with bad habits. good luck

  • dude where is movement 3? : D

  • you are amazing !

  • nice shirt ;)

  • does anyone know where i can go to, to learn this song?? im a classic guitarist myself and i want to learn this song...its AMAZING :D

  • This is from a collection by Laurendo Almeida called "Romantic Guitar." It was published years ago and the Beethoven is just 1 piece from the booklet. I don't know if it is still in print. Augustine Barrios was the first to transcribe it to guitar and he also has it in print. That is available in a collection of Barrios pieces published in Japan.

  • @ccfan101 Si mandas tu correo te la la puedo enviar en guitar pro......Saludos

  • i gave this one a go, and it is a hell of alot harder than it looks

  • i tried to play it on the guitar but it really needs alot of time an patience. RESPECT! it sounds amazing. =D

  • Transposition works fairly well at times - e.g.Fur Elise sounds ok-ish on guitar but this piece really does require the depth and sonority of piano - also it is written in C# - a significant factor in its gravity - which would be virtually impossible on guitar without a capo.

  • Well, he knows the song, obviously, but, needs a little more practice to get his dexterity down. Over all, I'd have to say, Bravo! At one time, I had aspired to play this song on the guitar, but, as fate would have it, I could not afford to buy a guitar...

  • Great, but some master pieces can be played only on piano to make it right.

  • as much as guitar is my favorite instrument, i think the piano version sounds the best. great work though, 5/5

  • speechless... you're awesome.. god bless yours hands

  • yep its gr8 but the guy looks like hes going to puke in a sec xD still love it tho

  • DAYUM this guy plays like a master at the guitar

  • I love it.

  • this is a great performance of such a masterpiece...

but what is he doing with his mouth and throat?

    greetings from germany!

  • consentration

  • he's keeping time. If you notice he does th large throat motion every time he reaches the first beat. Every musician has his own way of keeping time. some tap their foot, some rock their head or body. I know a guy who bulges ut his eyes to keep time... w/e to all his own right??
