Phyllis, there are many MIL's who fall outside the scope of "normal relationships" and a nourishing MIL/DIL relationship can NEVER be achieved, only maintained from a safe distance. By outside the scope of normal, I refer to people with personality disorders, such as narcissistic, histrionic, passive-aggressive and paranoid, especially among Holocaust survivors. While the DIL in question is decidedly indiscreet, at least she is able to cope via comedy. Comedy is sublimation of pain & suffering
