  • I know we love these little operators that nibble the fringes of the high speed network, but lets be honest kids... its not really gonna work. GC has a horrendous record for defects and breakdowns.

  • See, 43065 did something similar to me a couple of weeks ago. More fuel starvation than a gearbox fault. Thank god 43123 is a better power car. It shoved us to Retford

  • Grand central hsts are now performing more reliability than the MTU fitted class 43's

  • Grand Central now have one of the most reliable fleets actually!

  • oke so i take it a class 43 locos gone down but arnt they designed to run on one just in case, i mean isnt 1 class 43 hst even with a valenta meant to still be able to pull the train at about 100, ny ideas? if not they should of had a 66 or 47 or somthing lyin around , the railway needs to be nationalised again !

  • No, one power car cannot move a train when the wheels are locked! They had to move it at about 5mph. Have you not seen the other video?

  • Driver sounds a little exasperated :)

  • , i know grand central have been having problems with some of their power cars, a godd idea they could have used would hav ebeen to copy wrexham & shropshire's idea and use class 67s with some of the mark 3 coaches until the issues with the deffective power cars are resolved, although from what i have heard they suggested this and network rail refused to give them permission to do so network rail have to take some blame for this as well as grand central.

  • Oh dear! Another fine mess you got me into Stanley...! I live in Sunderland and have attempted to get a Grand Central train twice...Both times it has been cancelled due to mechanical faliure. A well intentioned, but cowboy operated venture...The train we are STILL waiting for to London...

  • Ya gotta feel sorry for them. I hope this PC prob is sorted soon and that they gain an enviable reputation for their puntuality as well as customer service!

  • Was this the one that was taken away by a low loader about a week alter?

  • thats the one

  • @lhrjc Was the national express train A HST or a 91

  • yh a will m8 do u have msn or enything weere we can talk more m8

  • a love grand centrals trains a really wanna be a train driver and am from hartlepool and am only 14 but a wud really like to drive for them avent been on grand central yet but am hoping 2

  • i would really reccommend it! i have been on two journeys on board them and it has been brilliant! if you ever get the chance save up a bit of money to get a good journey, i have a few videos that need uploading of the journeys i took on board them which i'll put up some time if you ever want a look

  • fgw could take a few lessons from gc

  • Absolutely, as did all the train crew. Can't fault GC crew at all having travelled with them many times now

  • He seemed much more helpful than traincrew that have been on trains I've been on before when it's had to be terminated en route.

  • rofl

  • Opps, at least the onward connections were made

  • Exactly. The crew dealt with it professioanlly and there wasn't anything more anyone could've done. Plus there was a ridiculously drunk bloke keeping us all entertained anyway ;)

  • Whoops!

More egg on GC's face, but an innovative videoing techinique which, nevertheless, gets the point across!

  • Whoops indeed! Lol I'd been stuck on the damn thing for 3 hours I was too tired to do anything fancy with the camera ;-)

  • Haha!
