Dmitri-s great sense of ambiguity and despair. It-s a common place to limit his music to the eppoch he lived through, but overall he is a tragic and ironic poe, and has made some of the best pieces of deep music ever since Mahler.
@haydo143 how can you compare this fantastic music... with heavy metal( heavy metal is fine a don't have problem) but Shostakovich got away from the tonality....heavy metal has the same easy tonal fuctional style...and Shostakovich is not classical music...is academic contemporary music...classsical music is Mozart .
@damiancho15 it can be compared to some subgeneres of extreme metal , or some bands , maybe unexpect , oh and you seem to know about it , so i was wondering if you could tell me the subgeneres of this kind of music , like baroque , romantic , etc
@firedeathterror999 this is a neoromantic compouser. and he have atonal music too, there are many subgeneres in the contemporary music like the minimalists, the neotonal, the serialist, the electroacustic music etc, i found one thing in common with heavy metal and its the headbanging...
@damiancho15 classical music incorporates all of these subperiods - baroque, renaissance, classical, romantic and 20th century. i used the expression "Shostakovitch is like the heavy metal of classical music" because, as with heavy metal, it is not the mainstream style of music and is very abstract; people don't know haw to interpret it.

Depends on what kind of heavy metal. For instance, avant-garde bands.

The breathing of the musicians makes the beginning of the song all the more dramatic.

those notes in the beginning represent the knocking on his door, the impending doom he felt being forced into the communist party.

This is dismembering! The caressing touch in between makes it more brutal. God, I love it!
