  • jacksonville fla best time of my life, green cove springs, orange park lived there many years. my brother went to high school with little melody. BLACK CREEK, you know what i am talkin about> brick yard road street sigh stolen about once a month ---I MISS OLD FRIENDS THAT I ONCE HAD THERE- IV"E SEEN BETTER DAYS

  • Hughie's solo is pretty decent but I think Rickey's solo is weak to poor. And Ed King did play the solo on this song. Also, there is no existing live recording of Comin' Home with Ronnie. If it was ever played live it would have been back before Skynyrd's first lp, before Al Kooper "discovered" them. This is probably my favorite Skynyrd song. It's haunting and sad. Just an incredible song.

  • Gotta be one of my favorite Skynyrd songs ever. Could have sworn that was Ed King on this one, but not according the vid poster's "line-up" remarks, though. I can't still seem to find a live vid on Comin' Home with Ronnie and the original line-up, though :(

  • Did I see a vibrato bar on that tele?

  • 8 People are not coming home.

  • Can you SEE THE BALL PARK, CAMPGROUND, can you feel the gravel the way it feels on your feet on brickyard road, green cove springs,

  • Mr Ed King wrote the vast majority

of the awesome guitar licks in this song,Tom

dowd had him plug directly in the board

to do the overdubs, this is a musical masterpiece

thanks Gary, Ronnie and Allen and Ed, who gets sometimes overllooked

his guitar work is rock history.

  • THIS IS MY PROMISS NYE I WONT HURT U< TRUST PLZ IM DONE IF U BAIL!! NYE INEED YOU!!!

  • underbar underbar fantastisk musik nisse

  • I was there!!

  • That's Bristol. Just sayin'.

  • so good...

  • I Sweat Lynyrd Skynyrd.

  • On the back of “Street Survivors” MCA released an album of unreleased recordings from 1970 – 1972 packaged as “First and Last”. It went platinum too. The album contained previously unreleased songs and B sides, such as the beautiful “Comin’ Home” a song recorded years before. As was typical of most of the songs on the album, the very early incarnation of the Skynyrd band recorded most of the material. On Comin’ Home, Ed King recorded the slide overdubs in 1975, GENIOUS the guitar moans

  • I've always loved this song my Dad used to play the original for me as a lullabye when I was little

  • THIS JAM BRINGS ME HOME IN MY MIND EVERY TIME

  • this ls at its finest

i paid my dues...and i want to come home

    i want to come home...

miss old friends that i once had...

i'lll be coming home to your sweet love mama

    miss you ht...billy,... ean

  • At the same time LS was SOOO good back then. And are still better now than many bands, so that is where they are coming from the That is to say, you cant compare

them then to now, cause even now... they are still equal to the average touring band.

they were just GODS THEN.... thats the comparison there isnt one

  • Absolutely one of my favorite Skynyrd songs ever! Fuck YEAH! Needs more cowbell! I mean LEAD GUITAR during the solos.

  • Nice.

  • The music of LYNYRD SKYNYRD is one of those rare things in life that always seems like an old friend. As special as the whole of the band was, Ed King's guitar work in the original band and the first album by the "new" was actually the defiinng sound of the band in my opinion still some of the best music ever made

  • @MrSammyDjr very true very well said, the best ever recorded, they captured a musical genious in tow and didnt even realize it, at the time, ronnies story telling lyric and Eds Strat, bringing you home, everytime you hear it you go back home, thank you God for Mr ronnie Vanzant and Mr Ed King. Yes there is no telling "what steve would have done". But what we DO KNOW is what Ed actually did, he put lynard skynard in the commercial format we all enjoy today. He deserves more credit by everyone

  • @flooringalabama Its always band BS, that kills creativity. every time politics and money emotions and WIVES, in thierr husbands ears, Yea Dale that includes you. Do you know how many wars have been fought, lives lost, how many john the baptist have lost their heads because of a woman. That #$%^&* is power, and powerfull stuff and a man will do anything to please her, a smart woman is a blessing and and asset to her man, a trouble maker woman on the other hand, is a ruiner of vintage works

  • Shamefull, and i am a Huge Gary Rossington fan,

I think no bull Gary Rossington is in the top 10 world wide,

Yes hes that good, why? Originality thats why, he is 100% original,

his licks are clever, and he utilizes basics combined with

a rare technique, FILLS the song, ITS rare,

    but these new guys SUCK

  • @FloormanofAlabama There are less than 2 handfulls that can play note for note

the old songs, note for note, call me the breeze,

    even sweet home,

    Garys Awesome

the new guys though they suck OK im going to shut up now, im making myself angry

  • Ricky didnt play the intro right, its missing

multiple notes, and eds part the slide is missing

and wrong, what am i an expert, YES i am

and yes i can play it better, MYSELF.

i am sorry these new guys are not close to ed,

WHY DO THEY NOT hire him back?

    pride and band BS

  • These guys need to get their own band. My gawd.

  • Ifovor the piano i am typing to the beat !!! love U Live on till we meet

  • i wished i lived by the vansants or by allen collins... i was only 13 and a huge crush on both ronnie and allen.. lol, what girl didnt, but i was gonna marry allen when i got older even if he was married...oh well he still rocks on in my heart both of them and of course gary.

  • I grew up2 doors down from all the Vanzants. I graduated with Jonnie. Hughie was never a member of the band. Leon was fired, (lol) every other day. I'd seen him walk in front of my home though every other day. It's ashame, This is what started Southern Rock and today< "No More". All usic today is studio produced crap. This band was Original, and the Best. I bet NO ONE knows what the song FreeBird was about?. Freebird was about the death of Dwaine Alman of the Alman brother's.

  • @TheChas112859 FYI, Freebird was written way before Duane's passing. It was dedicated to him after he died. Common misconception

  • @TheChas112859 tell johnny to get his own band. This is getting ridiculous! The "NEW" skynyrd sounds nothing like the REAL.

Gary rossington couldn't make it without the name. remember rossington collins band. And now ricki medlocke is riding the coat strings. nuff is enuff.

  • @drillmanager1 Before i even read your comment, however i said the same exact thing,

But Gary andthat wife of his decide, then run it by Judy, who reallly decides,

as long as the tour numbers stay up, they wont change, and lets face it they are grandads

they could hang it up, BUT its sad for us Skynard old timers, PUT IT LIKE THIS,

Ronnie would not have it, HE would say if we cant do better than this STAY HOME

  • @FloormanofAlabama Mrs Judy Vanzant Jennesse is LS i also

think Teresa Gains Rapp also has some pull, if there something she really wants, lets you know how powerful widow women are. They have 100% of the P$%^& and 100% of the money as my daddy used to say

Oh your right they are drawing down 500K to per show now,

they are considerered one of the top grossing acts and

are Vintage, in class When you are drawing down that kind of gate

also the fans like medloke thats all judy sees

  • @FloormanofAlabama Ed lived with Judy and Ronnie, for a while,

I guess they go by who the fans like, there has always been a lot

of rumor mill swirling around how did Ed and Ronnie leave it,

patched up not patched up? So Ed may not have the fans backing

    just a thought,

  • @drillmanager1 IF THEY WERE WISE, they wouldhave hired ED back

in the 90s to produce some GOOD NEW Songs, hes the only one LEFT who can,

BIG mistake, HUGE. And who do we have to thank. DALE thats who who persuaded

Gary NOT to, Judy loves ED, ED now most likley would not even put up

with the Sloppy playing and band BS, listen to this old timer

i know. I might not be 100% right but im geting what i am typing

from the holy sprit, im 90% right. IT sucks the way they treated MR KING

  • I WISH THERE WERE CAMERAMEN WHO KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOIN,,,,,,,,,

if there's one thing I hates is gettin a shot of the singer's butt during a guitar solo,,,,

  • is that abe lincoln on the drums?

  • I would love to see the over produced crap playing these days even come remotely close to sounding this awesome live! I am 33 and wish I was born about 20 years sooner. The music back in the day rocked! I can only hope it will swing back to stuff like this in my lifetime. But no, our generation will be known for Beiber! sigh

  • this aint skynyrd. this is shit!

  • Way to go Rick Medlocke....

  • al perkins

  • killer tune from skynard but his brothers voice sux....

  • Flat out beautiful song.

  • Muito bom!!

  • Johnny is really struggling on this song at least this night.

  • Jonny don't rock like Ronnie ...Orginal Skynyrd still the best ...

  • @bentheredonethat08:

I am 21 jears old, from Germany...and when people like Skynard die I'll die, too.

They're just "The Spirit Of Music"

  • you should add 'rip Billy Powell'

  • taken for granted but so missed now...mr. billy powell

bp there must be a heaven with you in it because you made your earthly journey so special to us old timer skynyrd fans

    fly high freebird

  • it's nice to see Ricky take so much pride in playing Allan's solo's, and he does them so perfect. I sure hope God doesn't call any more of them home any time soon. The only original left is Gary. with a stroke and a heart attack in his past. I sure hope he lives on for a long time. and may the others R.I.P. thanks for the upload. I never get tired of the classics....

  • i miss leon wilkson

  • Sure miss Allen Collins pickin in this tune!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love Johnny's Tee-shirt...."Fly on proud Bird. You're free at last".

  • this was in my mind on the way home. god i love being home.

  • It never will die. It's too good and thank God Ronnie's brother resurrected the band.

    What a tribute !!!

  • PIANO RULES!!!!!!!!1

  • He's the original drummer on this tune...check it out!

  • I believe Ricky Medlocke is the original drummer for this song, or at least the original recording.

  • awesum band...i dont understand y they have remained so un derrated.....excelent song too....

  • Medlocke is not playing the intro correctly. This is an example of why Allen Collins chose Randall Hall to play his part, not RM. You can flame me all you want, but that's the truth.

  • @travlnmn41 You are correct. There is a video of Rickey Medlocke giving a lesson on Allen Collins' part of Freebird and it is so off it isn't even real. I mean, if he wanted to do his own thing in the song than he should say that that was something he came up with himself, rather than saying that that was what Allen played. People need to play songs the way they were recorded.

  • @travlnmn41

I think Gary would be the judge of that

  • i´ve posted a guitar lesson for this song ! check it out by the time :)

  • Billy Powell on the 88 tooth monster

  • Shouldn't be so hard on johnny. I bet if we asked him he would tell us he isn't trying to be his brother at all.

  • Truth be it known, the first recording of Johnny doing this tune was in 1987 when the Tribute Tour was getting started. His voice was much cleaner

then and more identical to his brother RVZ at that earlier time.

  • it had to be very emotional to even atempt this song, so my hat goes off to Johnny and all the band members the pulled this off, AWSOME

  • why does he look animated... =O

  • IT DOESNT SUCK its just that jonnie shouldnt fill the shoes off ronnie on their old songs johnnie is good but cant compare!!!!

  • Street Survivors was the album

  • the lost muscle shoals allbum and dont diss this performance sure ronnie could do this song a million times better than johnny but johny has to ave some balls to step up to that mike and sing his bros' songs

  • that was the discussion in `86 to have JOhnnie as the singer in the band, but as Ronnie once said: JOhnnie has the cleaner voice ion the family...

So: I like both styles of voices - they`r unique

  • and BP!!!

  • miss old friends that i once had...

    godspeed leon...hughie...ean

  • IS THAT STEVE BEATON ON PIANO 180

  • This is The Best Song Of Lynyrd Skynyrd..

  • Ahh, I was at this show!! My first Skynyrd concert, as a matter of fact. This was a kick-ass show too. I just learned several days ago that Billy died in January, and just a few minutes ago that Hughie died last month. The Southern Rock world, and I will never be the same without that amazing guitarist and piano playing Skynyrd ORIGIONAL band member. Rest in peace brothers, we will greatly miss you....

  • Great band big band i love them even though they re dead

  • RIP Billy Great song

  • I DON'T AGREE.

    JVZ NEVER SOUNDS LIKE *&^%

    PEACE JOHNNY

    WISH I WOULDA' BEEN THERE!

peace on the brickyard road brutha

  • Johnny sounds like shit on this one. He's reall struggling. He can sing his songs fine but has trouble on the old ones.

  • Na he sounds mean as

  • sounds to me more like quality of recording plus this was about the time he quit trying to sound like Ronnie & started bringing more of himself into performances.

  • ED KING added alot to that lead part...and don't forget it....

  • love em all.but this is my fav.play this when i been gone and headed home my baby.thank you lynyrd skynyrd

  • one of their most underrated tunes.....but one of my favorites......great performance bros

  • wish i coulda been there! light it up!

  • greatest band on stage!!!!!

  • I seen Kid Rock and the Skynyrd Tribute Band July 26 in Charlotte, NC, and it was awesome.I did not know that Hughie had passed on till I seen this. I missed that. Some info......

  • BEAUTIFUL SONG

  • Rossington's solo is BADASS...best thing he ever came up with.

  • I agree 100%, it is one of mt favorate solo's of all time.

    Peace = Remedy!

  • God damn...

When they show Gary's fingers during the solo before the end...

Despite his old age, he's ridiculously accurate in his playing... it's so smooth I was left with my jaw open...

So accurate, smooth, and full of emotion.

    He is the best.

  • I miss you my brother Hughie

  • Beautiful song Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Best wishes for Johny Van Zant:)

  • Thats Judy Vanzant's favorite Skynyrd song.

  • Thanks for posting.

    Dont you mean Bristol VA?

  • He is correct Bristow is an unincorporated town in Prince William County, Virginia. Bristol is southern Virginia

  • Bristow is the home of Nissan Pavilion, which has become DC's summer concert venue much as Merriwether Post used to be.

It is amazingly proximate to several Civil War battles, including both Battles of Manassas and skirmishes that have now been lost geographically due to the sprawl of DC. Very appropriate.....

BTW, what I luv more is watching Billy Powell - we lost him now and w/out his piano there would be major pieces missing in the completeness of the music.

  • It's pretty much on top of the Bristow Station batlefield. Not one of Hill's better days.

  • I just gotta say Billy Powell on piano in this song is incredible. they remake this one quite well. one of my 5 favorite Skynyrd tunes. just awesome thanx.....

  • Skynard,Blackfoot,Outlaws,,,,,,and so many bands stuck together through good and bad, and sad. What they did is show how much their music has. I just think it is so fucking great seeing young people today trying to keep it alive. Never let southern rock die!!!

  • LOVE THIS SONG!!!! if i feel like im bout to punch someone in their freaking face it calms me down :)

  • i love this song. i listened to it in iraq all the time. it reminded me of the streets of iraq and being in the infrantry. thank you americas greatest band ever!!!!!

  • I love Lynyrd Skynrd.

  • I like the way this opens with Billy Powell!!

    See ya in heaven BP.

  • He's tickling the Ivories in Heaven , don't u worry, Hes jammin with Ronnie,Allen & Steve right now. See u there Billy, save me a seat.

  • i miss old friends i once had...

times they change but i'll be glad when i go home...comin home to stay...

god bless the skynrd band...past present ..future

  • godspeed to the band as they go on...

if you get the oppurtonity get out to see and hear them this summer of 2009...

virginia beach in july with my ODU youngen's in tow...my thoughts and prayers to BP's family and to ean

  • Another Skynyrd Classic. What a Band!!!!

  • Fly on proud bird , free at last

    Billy Powell

Ronnie , Steve , Allen & Leon what a jam that`s gonna be.

  • God Bless you Billy Powell. You will truely be missed. Now you can tickle the keyboards of Heaven with your sweet melodies. Thanks for the memories.

  • BP ... times they change but i'll be glad when i go home...godspeed

  • this wasn't the original band members, was it?

  • yes Billy was an original band member. he started out as a roadie for the band and Ronnie heard him play Freebird on the piano one day and the rest is beautiful music history.

  • ok,i dont know that much about lynyrd skynyrd, but i didn't think this was the original singer

  • sorry didnt know you meant the singer. No Johnny is not orginal singer hes Ronnies younger brother. Check out Vicious Cycle great CD, Band got back together in mid 80s as a tribute and have been rocking on ever since. Technically there are 2 originals left although Ricky Melocke left to form Blackfoot before the first album. He was a member during the Hell House days

  • allright, that's what i thought,it's a really good band with lots of good music, too bad that most of the originals died in that plane crash... that is what i have heard they died from, pls correct me if i'm wrong

  • Ed King lost his life?

Where do people get this shit?

At least Gary and Leon still managed to conjured up images of the OLD band in this video.

  • Ed King is alive. I met him at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year. Really great guy.

  • this song helped me when i was in the army

  • I've been alone in foreign countries for periods at a time. This song with a couple of others helped me get through it. Thanks Skynard

  • You know what? Johnnie sounds more like Ronnie than Jimmie or Donnie either one. Johnnie was asked by the remainder of the original lineup to replace Ronnie only for the tribute tour in the 80's. They did not expect it to be for this long. The fans have spoken loudly and repeatedly that we like Johnnie singin' the classics as well as the new songs. Too bad that Leon passed away, Artimus had his falling out, and Ed King lost his life, but remember one thing. Skynyrd still puts out great songs.

  • I love Johnny but you can hear him struggling with the vocals on this song. He always sounds much better on his own/newer Skynyrd tunes. These old songs were not written for him.

  • there's no point in arguing with Fullhousefreak2007 Let him ramble on in his padded cell with his designer straitjacket. The two phases of Skynyrd are both great and no true fan would start a youtube argunent about it.

  • i miss allen and ronnie ... i love this song but i dont like so much this 1

  • cool

  • Strange...didn't Ricky Medlocke actually play drums on the original recording of this? Now he's playing the leads? Very cool.

  • rickey pwned the solo

  • ass assa sss

  • i like JVZ and RVZ the same. my dad saw original skynyrd and i have seen new skynyrd and its just another generation of skynyrd fans

  • fullhousefreak......ur a dumbass

  • nope I know my kinda music, I don't need assholes telling me that the RVZ era is the best version cuz to me JVZ era is the best Skynyrd, I'm smart. I know good music when I hear it.

  • Your a idiot. How the hell are you going to say Jonny Van Zant is better than Ronnie? What next? Jimmie is better than Ronnie too? Yeah right. Go look up their cuz Jimmie Van Zant. He's better than Jonny is. He has the look and the voice.

  • without JVZ there would be no new generation of Skynyrd, and this band is the best band there is, JVZ kicks ass and I'm glad that he's doin this for Ronnie.

  • omg for the last time yes their would be look up jimmie van zant its their cuz hes better than jonny is and looks just like ronnie

  • uhh Jimmy Van Zant totally sucks, I don't like him I have no respect for him, so without Johnny, there would be no Skynyrd, Johnny is Ronnie's younger brother, now if you wanna have somebody that sounds like Ronnie, lets try Donnie, Donnie is alot more better than there so called cousin Jimmy. But if I had to choose, it would be Johnny.

  • No Jimmie def. does not suck. I am aware that Jonny is Ronnies brother. Considering I have everything skynyrd every put out including their box sets. I have a skynyrd tat on my left arm. I have all their auto bios. Donnie is alright, I don't think he has to sound to do skynyrd tho. I seen Jonnys sknyrd twice last year, and Donnies 38 Special twice last year. Still Jimmie is better. Ronnie will always be the heart and soul for skynyrd.

  • if Johnny dies or decides to retire, than Donnie will take his place but Johnny is way better than there cousin Jimmy, in fact he's not as famous Ronnie, Donnie or Johnny, so in my opinion, Johnny is better, I don't give a shit that you have box sets of Skynyrd or a tattoo of them on your arm, big deal, I know music when I hear it and Johnny is better than Jimmy.

  • I like Johnnie and Donnie, but neither of them have the talent or charisma that Ronnie had, tho no fault of their own.

  • There is no chance that the new Skynyrd is better than the original.

  • no fuckin way its better

  • Vocals are just too dry--need some reverb. Otherwise, he does pretty good.

  • johnny's voice just cant do ronnie's voice on this one, he can usually do a fantastic job, but this is outta his leage (my opinion)

  • yea

its just not the right voice for the song

no one can do it better than Ronnie

  • its such a gr8 song too, his voice jst isnt high enough. maybe back in the 80s he could

  • yeah he definetley would do it better in the 80's

  • he rreally didnt have a better voice, just different, much higher.

  • Tiiluu, I agree it isn't the same without Ronnie, Allen, Steve, Leon, on and on. But, at the same time I appreciate Johnny and all who are left who revived the group and kept Southern Rock alive, there isn't many of those bands left and we need to support those that are. Looking forward to their concert one week from today!

  • I agree with your comment on nearly all your points, but I think that the new line up is going wrong. I can't put my finger on it but it just dosen't sound right any more and Kid Rock should just do away.

  • was the bass player wearing a cell phone on his head?

  • Friday night in Boca Raton Florida. Ten rows from center stage. They brought the A Game!!

    Skynyrd kicked it big time!!

  • My old drum teacher !! Jeff McCalister from Louisville, Ky. Think he still teaches.

  • This is a good effort to play Lynyrd Skynyrd.

I still miss Ronnie and Allen.

So this band will always be "empty"..Can´t help it, sorry :(

  • how old were you when they died?

    2 years old?

  • Actually I was about 4 years old :)

  • The Best Southern Rock band ever...

  • Toss up between Skynyrd and the Allman Bros. Just about every other Southern band was a derivative of one or the other. Not to say there werent others that were great, just that there were 2 So Rock waves, post-Allman in early 70s, post-Skynyrd in late 70s.

  • The guy who played the drums on the original recording of this tune is Ricky Medlock, the same guy who plays the first full solo on this performance, on the Explorer. He was the original drummer for the band. Bit o' trivia.

  • Its Bristol VA not bristow

  • Nissan Pavillion is in Bristow. It's Northern Virginia near Manassas.
