I used to watch Cavic swim when he was in High School in SoCal...he is an incredible swimmer, certainly the fastest butterfly in history if it wasn't for Phelps...I was convinced of Phelps' greatness in the Olympics. @juanpedro19840914 the pool length is 50m. the timing boards are about 1cm thick. the force needed to stop the clock is exactly calculated so that when it stops is when the swimmer would have touched the wall if the timing board was not there. as phelps came in much harder, he activated the board first. therefore, if there was no board, another 1 cm of racing and phelps would have overtaken cavic. that's how it works :)

Phelps swims to change the sport of swimming and make it more exciting and popular. He also swims because he wants to be the best he can be. Cavic does the same.
The problem we have in sports these days is that the fans or two different teams or two different athletes hate each other, when really we all share a common love for that sport in question.
What we should be doing is marveling at the incredible achievements of these athletes. Not bitterly attacking the one we don't support.

@juanpedro19840914 the pool length is 50m. the timing boards are about 1cm thick. the force needed to stop the clock is exactly calculated so that when it stops is when the swimmer would have touched the wall if the timing board was not there. as phelps came in much harder, he activated the board first. therefore, if there was no board, another 1 cm of racing and phelps would have overtaken cavic. that's how it works :)
