The sun cant explode, it doesn't have enough mass! What it'll do is expand and swallow up the earth (and possibly mars) but for it to explode, it would take some sort of nova or supernova and drastic changes in its environment where it can acquire hydrogen and helium from a binary star system when it becomes a dwarf.
