  • would you recommend this over the tc nova system? I am planning to use it for small gigs and jus want really good tone.

  • @gene611 Yes I would. The Nova system has a lag when switching patches. That stopped me from getting one. The sounds are very good but that lag in switching is unacceptable.

  • what is the guitar that he used?

  • @smansapwk Live6 Variax 700 Trem

  • Glenn, does the HD500 power the variax, or do you have to use batteries or the variax power supply(the 1/4 in/XLR switching box)? I just got the HD500 and can get a variax 300 from a friend and was wondering if I would have to run it on batteries?

  • @robsangg Yes the HD500 does power the Variax, no batteries needed.

  • if you had cash only to buy a pedal board, which one will you choose? boss gt10 or this hd500? .... i have a marshall mg100hcfx with a 4x12 cab

  • @irvingsierratt Probably the HD500

  • @extremevideopro why will you choose this? i have seen on your videos how easier is to use gt-10... is amp simulation better on hd500?... or is it because you have more stompboxes to assign an effect on it?

  • @irvingsierratt I just think it's a better choice right now.

  • Hey Glenn, this is really excellent - I downloaded your patches for the HD500 and they are unbelievably helpful... thank you brother!

One question: are the patches for studio or for live use... I need presets for live use so if have LIVE sets you gig with, can you let me know if those are avail. (if different) thanks again!

  • @stephenpconrad These were made for direct recording. They probably would work for live use with just a little bit of tweaking.

  • Hi Glen..Great sounds.. i tried this in a music shop and it sounded nasaly with nasty frequencies on the distortion. couldn't get rid of the piercing frequencies no matter how much i tried.. Can you find where i was going wrong..it seemed quite technical to operate so i must have done something wrong..i will buy one if i can get sounds like you get!

  • You're the greatest! Excellent tutorial and tips, many thanks :-)

  • Is that a variax 700?

  • @dmdark Yes it is

  • What has better distortions??

  • @daniyalahmed97 the line6hd500 ! xD

  • hey glenn, sorry to bother you again, but i'm thinking of changing my line 6 x3 unit, and i thought there was no one better than you to help me with the decision lol... i mean, its a good unit and all but sometimes i find myself struggling to get a good sound.. and on the other hand i've heard that the HD's are much better, but don't have as many amps and/or effects or something like that... so, what do you think?

  • @livio1396 Yes the HD500 would be a great upgrade. That's true yo don't get as many amp models but the ones you get are very very good.

  • What's easier to program the boss gt 10 or this??

  • @daniyalahmed97 Probably this but the Boss has way more things to tweak.

  • Hi sir, I was trying to dial a good Metal tone with my Boss GT10 without any success, I heard HD500 is also good for metal.. My question is If I switch to HD500, can I also dial those settings that I love with my GT10, like your STRAT CLEAN patch.. coz I really dig that tone.

  • @BujoySeth Oh yes the HD 500 would that clean tone and Metal too easily.

  • Hi Glen, thank you for your videos!

i see that you are connected into 1/4 unbalanced out L & R, so i suppose you are playin' into a combo or stack amp..

Do you play straight into amp input (outputs mode ----> combo/stack front)

or into amp RETURN (outputs mode-----> combo/stack power amp)???

    sorry for my english,

    thank you Glen!

  • Glenn, i am a fan of you and your videos, and i want to ask if from your Experience do all digital pedals and multi-fx damages the tone of analog pedals?

  • @itaybryt Not in my opinion. In fact one of my rigs incorporates the HD500 and several external pedals. It's sounds very good across all of my tube amps.

  • @itaybryt Not in my opinion. In fact one of my rigs incorporates the HD500 and several external pedals. It's sounds very good across all of my tube amps.

  • @extremevideopro thanks for the reply glenn , Appreciated

  • @extremevideopro sorry to bother you with one more Question but is it true also for boss multi-fx?

  • @itaybryt I have another rig with an Boss GT-10 and an Line6 M9 with some other analog pedals and it too sounds good on all of my tube amps, Marshall, Dr. Z Traynor, etc. The digital FX modelers when used with traditional analog pedals are a very good match.

  • @extremevideopro Thanks for the answers, glenn , i hope i didn't bother you too much, i am a big fan of you and your videos.

  • @itaybryt no bother. I enjoy talking with everyone here and I thank all of you for your support of my channel and my music. If I don't answer some of the questions it's simply because I don't have an answer. I also like it when other people answer some of the questions on my videos. Cheers

  • @extremevideopro i was scared about not really running it into an amp because i thought it would mess up the sound, but if your doing it and getting positive results, i think i might just do that!

  • does this work if you have a line 6 spider 4

  • @BushhhPiggg Sure but isn't that Spider 4 a modeling amp??

  • @extremevideopro i could never get that sound out of my amp

  • Hey glenn I was wondering if you had encountered any issues with the Wah pedal assigns... I set up some patches with Wah pedals on exp 1 or 2. and to engage when I hit the toe switch. but when I press the toe switch it engages the wah but wont let the treadle control it. I keep trying to change the exp from 1 to 2 but problem keeps happening. only seems to happen in patch mode.

  • @AlofD No i'm sorry I have not had that issue. Are you doing it on the unit itself or with the edit software??

  • Hey Glenn. Thanks so much for making these tutorials. I bought the HD500 a few weeks ago and have had a nightmare of a time trying to make sense of it. You're vid's are awesome. Thansk.

  • Can you channel switch a JVM with this thing.By the way your vids are way better than line6 support!!!

  • @kennykanowski Yes you should be able to switch the channels on the JVM with MIDI from the HD500

  • @kennykanowski Yes you should be able to switch the channels on the JVM with MIDI from the HD500

  • @kennykanowski Did you ever use this with your JVM without using the amp modeling. Can't figure out how to switch between my amp and the amp modeling thing

  • @kennykanowski Yes. you should watch my video using the JVM in 4 cable method.

  • 2:35 wait, I don't understand how do you do that?

  • Fantastic explanation video.

  • Hey Glenn, I bought a Pod HD500 Yesterday and took it straight to rehearsal. dialled in my cool metal tones over 4 patches... I love this thing. took me 5 minutes of foolin about to get a useable sound (including time to bugger about with all the totally mental effects). Got it home and put the software on my computer so useable. it's amazing! thanks for all the videos and your honest answer to my questions.

  • @AlofD You're welcome. I'm glad it worked out for you.

  • hi Glenn can you tell me how can I get anti fizz eq. in pod hd 500 tanks guipa@sapo.pt

  • @guipaguipa You really don't need that with these new HD units. There is no "fizz" sound anymore. The amp models are very realistic. If you are experiencing some fizz just dial back the presence on the amp model and you should be good.

  • hey Glenn - do you feel limited at all by the relatively small number of amps in the HD series, as opposed to the X3? It seems Line 6 definitely went more in the 'boutique' direction this time which, as a metal player, I really don't have much use for... is it worth changing from X3 to HD? I appreciate your opinion.

  • @tony93666 Yes Tony the HD's are very limited as far as amp models compared to the X3. You do however have some high gain amps in the HD's that are very good. You ought to check them out here on YT.

  • Glenn, I really appreciate you posting how you do these patches. I have a question for you. When I do the clean sound and bring the flange and ping pong in on expression pedal it is not a smooth transition like yours? It seems like it has to try to catch up with the sound? It us unusable like this. any thoughts? Thanks

  • @blueslovr Try moving those blocks around in the chain.

  • dude need to get yourself a axe II it changed everything for me

  • @captaaron1 I'd love to but I've got too much invested in tube amps and FX and other pedal boards. I'd have to start all over. Not only would I need the Axe but also a foot controller and also a live amplification solution, We're talking about 6 grand. I just don't have it right now. I wish I did cos I would definitely take the plunge!!

  • @extremevideopro

i know the feeling i got rid of alot of stuff to get and im still selling gear lol. but it was worth it.

  • I love your fingerpicking style, you look like a very experienced and talented musician to me. Bought the HD500 a couple of months ago and I'm still trying to figure it out! I appreciate the insights you shared in this video, I was inspired; as soon as I'm back home I'll try and implement something. Kudos to you :)

  • @messerruggine89 I'm glad you found it helpful

  • That thing is awesome ! I have the line 6 x3 live and I love it! But I see an upgrade in the future :) great video

  • if i connect it with my roland cube 20x, would it sound good??

  • @punknotdead22 Sure with a little adjustment it should sound good.

  • Part two. If running the POD into an amp, I'm assuming you can use just one of the POD's outputs and it will simply be in mono. That is, you won't lose one half (or side) of your stereo mix.

  • @PDXguitarfreak This is correct.

  • Part one (sorry, I typed too much): Hi Glen, first let me say this is an excellent tutorial. If Line 6 hasn't already got you on the payroll, they should! My question has to do with recording and listening at the same time. I hear that some people have latency issues when they listen through their PC, and therefore will simultaneously plug the POD into some studio monitors (or an amp). Do you find this necessary?

  • @PDXguitarfreak There should be no latency when connected to USB and listening with headphones through the POD.

  • I don't understand your guitar man.... It doesn't have any picups? Or is it Piezo? But I see it's a Line 6 guitar, and I know they have some kind of special thing... Is it some sort of MIDI? But it has strings.... ? I don't get it :(

  • @Sarrgas Yes it's a Line6 Variax. It's an older version. It's a Piezo pick-up.

  • I noticed that in the later firmware the treadplate sounds a little bit too bright with the default cab and mic settings. I don't remember it being that way before. Anyone else notice this?

  • @brpadington I haven't noticed that but it is definitely possible.

  • @brpadington can i use this pedal with any amp like a regular pedal or s it just with line 6 amps????

  • @leonar239 You can use it with any amp. I have used it with an old Marshall Combo and it sounded pretty good. I also hook it up to my surround sound system through the spdif out. Sounds great through my big speakers with 15in subs.

  • @leonar239 u can do it like a regular pedal without amps or vise versa. its rlly incredible, but it takes just a little bit of time to get used to

  • Niiiiiice tones!the best on youtube!!

    thank you for sharing!!!

  • @pauloheiniken You're welcome

  • Can i choose to not have a spesific amp whith this thing? So i just use the sound of my own amp, and use this as a pedalboard??

  • @alsklaftsk123 Sure you can

  • where are his pick ups??

  • Hi Glenn!!! You're great... I have a big question!!: If I use the same model amps that you used in the X3 live and the same configuration... Could I get the same sound in the HD 500?... Thanks for all!! and damn it, you're awesome!!!

  • @hectorcis1986 Hmm, that's a good question. I'm not sure you will get the same sound but you can try it. Let us know if it works.

  • @extremevideopro Thanks and Sorry, but what is the 4 cable method? 4 outputs from the amp head?

  • How well would this world with the Hughes & Ketner Duo Tone?

  • Thanks glen I was very confused about this..

  • @FaridOne100 You're welcome Farid

  • Pure Magic...

  • HE GLEN GREAT DEMO AS USUAL.LOOKING FOR A MULTI PEDAL.WOULD YOU SUGGEST THIS OR THE BOSS GT 10.I WATCHED YOUR VIDEO FOR THAT AS WELL BOTH SOUND GREAT.CAN'T DECIDE.THANKS BRO

  • @mailman6161 I would go with the HD500 simply because it is much newer.

  • I'm dying to get one of these bad boys. Especially after this vid, this thing has been doggin my head for a while and the editing is whats been complicating my choice. But seeing how simple that is, i'm all for it. Cheers man.

  • Dang it, I was perfectly happy with my XT bean until I saw this video. Combine the dual tones you talked about and especially using the exp pedal to adjust various settings on the fly and I had to buy a 500. Congratulations. My wife hates you but don't worry, I still love you man.

  • Comment removed

  • i think is a good thing that you can control all that things just with the expression pedal...it has nice sounds...the only thing i don't like...is the wah =/

  • Glen gotta tell ya,I bought a pod hd 500 mainly cause of your videos,(keep 'em commin) Didn't even try it in the store just flat out bought one and I love it.Thanks for all your help. Also you look like robin williams..... : P

  • Is that better than x3 Live? What is the big deal? What do you think about both of them?

  • @heliobluesrock Yes, It's better than the X3-Live unless you are playing, Death, Thrash, Speed or Heavy Metal. For that the X3 is still better IMHO.

  • @extremevideopro are you being serious or sarsastic

  • @metallica10028 No, I'm not being sarcastic!! Metal, Thrash, Death, Speed are all legitimate music styles. If you are looking for a Digital Modeler to play those styles of music, In My Humble Opinion . . The X3-Live is better. You asked a question and I gave you my honest opinion. That's what I am here for.

  • glenn i also brought the pod hd 500 and copy your patch but the dsp reach it limit? how can i fix this?

  • @kaontagyud Try turning off some of the effects

  • Take in mind what works with one persons rig might not sound good with yours. And this guy knows his stuff. You just need to dig in and tweek this thing till you stumble on some good sounds. Then build from there. Its really important not to have your eq settings the same when building a duel amp tone. Your tone will be much more full if you dial in all frequencies and just blend the two amps volumes and gain controls to sound good with each other.

  • This guy really knows his sh#t. Thanks for your help a few weeks ago. Its really important that anyone buying this to upgrade the firmware to the 1.31 on the line6 site right away. And expierment with the output settings to fine tune it to your amp. Or your gonna spend days on end thinking you bought a $500 tuning pedal. The pod hd500 really is awesome once you get the hang of it.

  • You Are The Best - Gods Blessing and keep up the good work thanks you

  • I didn't know Chef Gordon Ramsey from Hell's Kitchen played guitar...good shit

  • Glenn,I know the POD HD has an fx loop for external stomps, but lets say I have a favorite distortion pedal and I plug into the loop can I place the loop anywhere within the FX chain? This is not possible with the x3 live

  • @cast390 YES, you can place the FX loop block ANYWHERE in the chain. It is totally movable.

  • Very intrusting video,Not only are the pod hd sounds great, but no plunky muffle sounds from the variax when using heavy distortion, care to explain how?

  • @cast390 IDK, nothing special going on here. Although these are my custom Variax models. Maybe that has something to do with it.

  • @extremevideopro Well obviously you know what Im talking about,I do not own a pod hd only the pod x3 live,Whilst using my variax 500 and the x3 together, the heavy distorted sounds are horrible.I don't even use the variax any more, only for recording acoustics.I wonder if its because of the new Pod HD?If you have the time and x3 live, could you do a video demo with your variax side by side comparison?Using factory presets.

  • @cast390 My Variax is a 700. The electronics are noticeably different in the 500's and 700's.

  • @extremevideopro The electronics may be different but the bridge pickups and the models are the same,so there should be no difference.

  • @extremevideopro Plus I had a vax 700 before a friend gave me his vax 500,I hated it so much I sold the 700 on ebay. And my 700 was doing exactly as previously described.Something else I just noticed about this video, when you add in the mod type effects the sound is very warbally, not chorusy or flangy sounding.

  • @cast390 That's because I have the Depth set pretty high. These units have really good chorus & flange sounds. Also a really cool thing (not shown in this video) is I am using the Pitch Glide to drop my tuning to Eb. It works better that the Morpheus Drop Tune :-0 Set your Pitch Glide to -1 and turn the mix all the way up.

  • @extremevideopro Well regardless,I like your demos and playing,my request still stands for a side by side demo of heavy sounds x3 live vs pod HD using the variax. Thanks

  • I just bought my HD 500, and its been a couple of days, and your videos just helped me so much, I think I have learnt quite a lot about this in such less time. Thanks, keep making such videos!!!!!

  • @aakshaynk Hey Akshay, I'm glad you found my video useful.

  • I found that dialing in a sound with this pedal is finding the right blend of the amp and distortion/overdrive pedal you choose. Blend their distortion levels and at the eq you like and boost or cut frequencies.

  • AS A new HD500 user/owner,your videos have been very helpful Glenn!

I really enjoy your sound and playing by the way! Wishing you all the best! Thanks man!

  • @fmdangelo Thank you Frank. I appreciate that.

  • Hi Glenn, I usually play different types of music, going from Heavy metal to Jazz. I have a cover band and I play in church every Sunday. I am looking for the most versatile pedal board possible. I have a Parker and I use the piezo sound, I don't use amps at all, only PA's and earmonitors. Should I go for a HD500 or X3-live? or should I consider a GT10?? I need an expert advice. THX

  • hey glenn, nice vid, what do you think is a more affordable alternative to the QSC K12 to use with the pod hd 500?

  • @dedetube Check out those Kustom 112's. I hear they are going for $99.00ea.

  • @extremevideopro Hi, glenn, thanks for the reply......but which one of these do you mean??? the cabinets, the powered speaks or the guitar amps??? and is there other choices i mean when what i class as affordable is like maybe three four hundreds dollars cheaper. i know the k12 is awesome but is there such speaker that is not that much worse than the k12 to justify spending 300-400 more for the k12s??? btw i live in Australia and a k12 goes for 1100 :)

  • @dedetube I think the Kustom's are powered. People say they sound good. There is also the KC series by Peavey. Also Traynor makes full range amplifiers.

  • @extremevideopro thanks again Glenn for the reply :) another and hopefully last question though, the Kustom speakers are said to have a watt handling of 80 watts...does it mean that they are powered?? if not would i need to get a mixer to use the speakers with the pod hd500 and mikes for vocals??? if so, wud i need to get a 'powered' mixer?? thanks

  • Glenn - I have an X3 Live I use at church. We do not have any stage volume. I've struggled with especially clean tones in the X3. I've finally settled on the Plexi Variac'd Marshall with different degrees of drive for all my tones (ala Lincoln Brewster). Of everything you've tried, can you recommend something that has a line out to the board that would be a step up for me? I play a Strat with Dimarzio noiseless single coils. Thank you!

  • @pipesstratman Have you tried the HD500? I think it would be perfect for those types of tones. It has very good connections to the PA also.

  • Nice review!!! I watched all your videos on Pod x3...I dunno now...is HD worth the extra money? Another thing I'm wondering is how does this wah sound in comparison to CryBaby GCB95? I have Korg AX3000G atm, and I wouldn't change my Crybaby for it...same thing goes for BOSS GT10. Both of them have crappy wah in comparison to my crybaby. Now ...should I sell my baby to invest in this thing or should I keep it by my side?

  • @TheUnforgivenGenius Your Cry baby will sound better than these Wah's

  • Thanks for the videos! they rock!. Do you know how to return the POD HD 500 to it's original factory presets?

  • @drbilldc If you google "POD HD factory reset" you will find it.

  • I just discover your channel and you have THE BEST reviews !

Really well done, lot of useful information, no blabla, no BS... Good Job.

  • @F3FisGoodforYou Well thank you. There are alot of guys out there doing this kind of stuff but I'm glad you think you found my videos useful..

  • Funny thing about my last comment. I woke up today to find my Pod HD Desktop order cancelled for reasons unknown. Contacted the company I ordered it from and got a sub par reason due to order issues on their end. Long story short, I now have the HD500 heading to me.

Can't wait to try it. Should I be able to run it via USB into GarageBand for some basic recording?

  • Hey just wanted to say thanks for the videos on these products. I've actually got the HD bean heading my way as we speak so I've be researching the product line as much as I can. It's just going to be for direct recording into my computer, and for fun since I don't stand a chance of making anything for drum backing tracks.

    Thanks!

  • Great video! I just the HD500 and this video really helped me create some great sounds! Thanks for posting Glenn, your videos have helped me great deal.

  • @halogen8 You're welcome. I'm glad you found my videos useful.

  • Awesome as always Glenn, ok decision time, im in the market for a new piece of gear, baring in mind im into playing satch/vai/evh, would you go for a hd400 or boss gt10, cheers fella.!

  • @MrSatchafunkilus You should try the HD500

  • Nothing sets a multieffect unit apart like having 2,000 metal distortion sounds.

  • hey there,

i'm just wondering whether that dual tone separation trick using digital delay on one of the amp's path is audible through headphones plugged into the POD unit or is it only audible through the unit's connections to stereo amps using two cables? because i can't seem to hear a clear difference through my headphones. thank you

  • @nzm291 Yes it is audible through headphones. try changing the parameters with your headphones on and you should hear them change.

  • I was so overwhelmed by this pedal to begin with, but thanks to your video, I actually feel like I know what I'm doing now. thank you!

  • @FloodofRainAD You're welcome

  • Thanks Glen for the fantastic video - like many others I've learned so much on how to use this complicated device from this one vid. Your patches for the 500 are second to none. They're in the very first banks and are my main ones. I just wish you had a 500 version of your pod xtlive "Rain Song" patch. Maybe the best I've ever heard and there is nothing remotely close at custom tone. I tried disecting it in Line 6 edit and recreating it in pod hd 500 edit but not even close. Thanks again!

  • @dannyjl3 Thank you for the kind words danny.

  • What type of metal are your pick ups made out of?! And where are they manufactured?!

  • Thanks for the awesome demo. I've had my HD500 for about a month and I learned more about what it can do in 15 mins from your video than I did reading the manual and experimenting with mine. Would love to see more demos in the future if you get a chance. God Bless!

  • @bbelly2 Thank you

  • Thanks for the awesome demo. I,ve had my HD500 for about a month and I learned more from your video in 15 mins. than I've learned from the manual and experimenting with mine. Would like to see more when you get a chance. God Bless!!

  • Great demo and great pedal. Thanks much!!!

  • Fucking awesome! I'm ordering one of those babies right now!!!

  • @samuelsantana The Boss Gt-10 is better sounding!

  • Great stuff

  • pure awesomeness!

  • @philipkatsotas Thank you Philip

  • I own a digitech rp500, and am looking for a more versatile pedalboard. If I use a crybaby wah on the side, is the pod hd500 overall a better pedal?

  • I have a question.whats that thing next to the little black amp at 5:09?

And is there a difference when an effect is put up or down?Or to its right or left?

Ps: i cant explain very well cuz im not english but i hope you understand and answer THX

  • @metal93metal That is the mixer block. You can adjust the panning of the two amps from left to right or you can dial them up straight center.

  • Good NewSSSS!!!

  • Well, this video is a showcase for things that DON'T WORK on my POD HD500 and my Variax 500. Out of the box, needed a 9 pound hammer to switch the HD500's pedal to "EXP 2" for wah. Next up, my Variax will not control my HD500 or even get a signal or power through the VDI cable/Variax input. And last but not least, what you (Mr. DeLaune) and I would call a "patch" seems to be pronounced "ampandeffectsblock" in Line 6 speak. And I have not figured out how to assign them to a footswitch.

  • could you do a comparison video of the pod x3 vs the pod hd 500 or the pod hd 500 vs the boss gt-10?

  • Comment removed

  • Can you create your own tones on this machine using your PC rather than squinting at a small screen? Is it possible to export tones you've created in POD Farm across to this board?

I've had a BOSS GT-8 for years and never been satisfied with any part of the thing lol.

Since finding an excellent tone with POD Farm, I'm wanting a better pedal board than the GT-8.

  • @fistpounder AFAIK the HD's are not compatible with POD Farm but they do have a great software editor so you can create your sound on the computer rather than using the screen.

  • @extremevideopro

    Thanks for the info :)

  • I've tried all the amps and have been serching the Internet but no one seems to have the same problem. The guy at guitar center said there were updates online so I updated right away. Could that be it? A faulty update?
