This is normal for most volcanoes since only a few are actively monitored. It wasn't as big as Mt. Pinatubo. Only 10% of the 1500 active volcanoes have had any sort of work up done on them. A "new vent" in Hawaii occured when a lava flow from Pu-u-u crater was naturally diverted to feed a new flow on the flanks - new vent, but not from a new source. Please verify your claim that the core is shifting with some data. You have made a huge "Ad Hoc" error in your reasoning.

Another quake in Columbia (5.7), 05/24/08. Then the very next day, a quake in China wastes 70,000 homes, (5.8)- 05/25/08. So I could possibly say that you have made a even larger "Ad Hoc" error in thinking that nothing is related or connected. Not everything is known about the inner workings of the core. So what is normal, damaging quakes day by day?

They are called "aftershocks" and they follow a pattern. Within five years there will be at least 5 more EQ 6.0 or greater in China. An appeal to ignorance concerning the core of the earth does not allow you to say that it is reversing. Which is it? It is reversing because you know something that others do not, or is it reversing because we don't know? The S and P waves arrived at the receiving stations exactly when they should have concerning China's 6.0.

Agreed. Look for further severe earthquakes along plate boundaries. The Mid-atlantic ridge had a good one last week and Alaska had a good one (6.0) near Rat Island. The tectonic plates are (always) on the move.

It's "business as usual" around the world as far as plate tectonics is concerned. Northern California is in the crosshairs as one part of the San Andreas is swelling now at a fast rate.

Expect more "surprise" eruptions, because volcanoes are always erupting.

I did some more research and say it could very well be the case that we don't know enough. The increasing extreme weather events are connected somehow, just study the news reports of all the toronados in the U.S. lately, you must put together the totality of everything happening including the economy falling apart, EVERYTHING GOING ON IN THE WORLD IS CONNECTED, these are not all normal everyday things that are happening in such a very short time! Mark Chp.8- these ARE the beginning of sorrows.

Pole-shift and plate tectonics are two TOTALY different and non-related subjects!!....earthquakes and volcanoes (plate tectonics)have been happening at the same rate(nominally)for thousands of years...there is no significant increase in them. (keep an eye on volcanolive to see how often eruptions happen)....pole shift is a VERY gradual process...

I disagree, something is different. The weather around the world is changing rapidly along with many other things, perhaps it's not as gradual as supposed, nobody was around 500,000 years age to record it!

China EQ occurred as the result of motion on a northeast striking reverse fault on the northwestern margin of the Sichuan Basin. The earthquake's epicenter and focal-mechanism are consistent with it having occurred as the result of movement on the Longmenshan fault. The EQ reflects tectonic stresses resulting from the convergence of crustal material moving from the high Tibetan Plateau, to the west, against strong crust underlying the Sichuan Basin.

Here in Mexicali Baja California Mexico, we started having earthquakes for two months dayly from january to march 2008, well almost tree 3 months, dayly and nobody pay attention to our city cause we are in Mexico, and my town is only a city of 1 1/2 one and half million persons city, it didn´t appear on news tv, news papers or any mean of communicaton, this activity is taking place here in the beginning of the Sea of Cortes, in Baja California Mexico, where is San Andres Fails, good luck to all.

Not true. The situation was monitored by siesmologists. There is a huge geothermal plant right in the middle of the area. The initial fear was that magma was moving towards the surface, but the regional nature of the quakes revealed it was normal EQ's.

A large earthquake (magnitude 6.6) occurred 8 km west of Bobrof Volcano in Alaska on Thursday 1st May 2008 at 04:33 PM local time. The earthquake focus was 10 km depth. There have been no recent eruptions at Bobrof Volcano.

Chaitén Volcano, Chile

On 6th of May the eruption at Chaitén volcano in Chile intensified with the eruption column reaching an altitude of 30 km (100,000 ft). This makes the eruption possibly the largest since Pinatubo in 1991.
