I E 8 - beware - I put it on our brand new HP computer running Vista 64 bit (this was also a mistake; XP is superior) and we couldn't open attachments. After 2 days of trying everything, I removed the Internet Explorer 8 "upgrade" and now things have calmed down. Opening attachements again. This is key, as we run a business here and have to use email.
It has 2 GB of memory. It is just that Vista is not compatible with my Sony Handycam, nor with my E Fax service. My computer with XP is fine with Handycam and Efax. It is the compatibility thing, and now this IE 8 upgrade causes chaos.
this is such a noobish video.......Just Kidding! This video is awesome! check out the sites in the video. Hamster Dance,Powerthirst,Charlie the Unicorn. Last Words:Caviar. Llamas. Pants. Powerthirst Now!!!!
I hate IE so much. People who still uses IE are so stupid. Why use IE, when Firefox and Chrome are out there. And for Mac users, Safari rocks as much as Firefox. BUT IE sucks!!!
I can't believe Microsoft is actually promoting this browser as a porn-viewing platform. As a developer, I really hope this browser doesn't waste hours of my time accommodating it like IE 7. But at the very least, I hope it will at least squeeze IE 6 out of the market. It's annoying to have to build second versions of websites so the 80+ demographic can view them.
. . .You mean that hasn't been private all this time? People could see. . .I mean all that shopping of course, that's what I'm talking about. They could see all my freakin p- shopping? Jeez :(
Everyone arguing that Microsoft cannot switch to the latest web standards is full of it. I use Opera happily, which is up to date on every aspect as far as I know.
Actually Internet Explorer 8 has pushed to be compliant with web standards like CSS 2.1 and HTML 5. It also includes Compatibility Mode to help render pages designed for older browsers.
Compatibility mode will not make any design studio happy. Who would really want to see web pages the way older versions of IE would render it (wrong)?
Compatibility Mode is a tool to help the transition as websites become more compliant with accepted web standards. Not all websites will be using current standards immediately and it allows users to still have a useful browsing experience when visiting older sites.
They're not using standards because of your browser. It's probably a good idea not to sing your own praises too highly - IE is what is wrong with the internet.
All of the net isn't made by professional designers and most users, who know nothing of standards, blame the browser if a website that used to work on an older one no longer works. Microsoft is aiming to please most of its users without breaking web standards. (Hence you turn comp mode on and off). Considering they are doing that I find it hard for people to complain.
Is the web not compliant because of the browser, or is the browser not compliant because of the web? It's more or less both.
"All of the net isn't made by professional designers and most users, who know nothing of standards, blame the browser if a website that used to work on an older one no longer works." There are the tools to help then, actually Microsoft Visual Studio and Microsoft Web Designer supports XHTML 1.1 strict and IE7 didn't. You just had to say it to check for that standard and it tells you where you did something wrong and how to fix it. Oh... and it's easy to see in the GUI.
Why do you think IE8 is not made standards compliant? Have you ever even used IE8 yet? As for Compatibility Mode , as someone pointed out it will make the transition much more somooth. Many web administrators and users are going to like it. Please be mature /considerate when think about this issue. We already know it's just so easy to be critical.
I don't think anyone said IE8 is not standards compliant - previous versions of IE are definitely not, but IE8 looks to be a great step in the right direction. It's just not enough when every single one of their competitors is so much further ahead with regards to features, standards and speed. It's like wheeling out last year's model with a fancy marketing slogan on it, and expecting us to accept that it's this years model.
"I don't think anyone said IE8 is not standards compliant "
Wooo...hermitdate just said that, please correct him/her.
Plus, I'm not interested in discussing "previous versions of IE ", I'm talking about IE8.
"every single one of their competitors is..."
Tell me about it. Which "competitor" offers great features like visual search, web slice or accelerators? In terms of speed, it is found IE8 is often faster than other browsers (search this on web).
I'm not sure I believe the numbers Microsoft released around the speed of their browser. They are subjective at best, and the other browser makers are touting numbers and real data that is hard to ignore.
Back to the standards compliance issue - the standards support is not as good as I would have hoped. Have you tried running it against some of the industry benchmarks like the ACID suite? The results are not good.
Anyway, I've had my say - Funny video. (not as) Crappy browser.
If you are not sure whether you believe the data why you claim speed of IE8 is not as good as its competitors? From my use I experience IE8 faster than firefox (maybe equally fast as Chrome). You are welcome to publish your own research and I would be love to read.
As for the standards issue, what is "standard" anyway? For a long time IE was the standard. Now things have changed and IE is made more compatible with other "standards". We should applaud this move rather than bashing it.
"what is "standard" anyway? For a long time IE was the standard."
the World Wide Web Consorcium is who regulates it, not Microsoft. W3C was founded in '94 (IE was released on '95). Every W3C standards is free to use and encoraged to implement. They defined HTML, and it's tags, but Microsoft desided to change their behavior and add new tags, and lots of webs used them because IE was market dominant (not standard). By the way the first browser was called Mosaic, not IE.
This is a good thing, since web devoplers can write there code in web standards and not have to worry about if it will work in other browsers like Opera
In a few years, people will say: "eh! do you remember when there was horrible thing on the internet ... no not tub girls ... no not rickrolls ... no that piece of crap software you had to use at work that kept crashing and sucking ... internet explo ... something ..."
