  • microsoft copied firefox :( the new tab idea was first from Mozilla Firefox wtf?

  • @Se7entijz No opera did it first

  • Did Microsoft just do something...funny?

  • Just get Firefox...

  • Hmm - Internet Explorer is perceived by web developers as slowling the development of the web down because of its non-standards compliance.

  • who are you ninja, Steve Ballmer in disgise

  • Best internet ad ever! Too bad IE8 still sux :) Firefox FTW!

  • 5:11 "I ate!"

  • What is that song at the begining!?! ITS EPIC!

  • this is stuiped lol

  • the ninja really saved the video, ie8 really worken for me, my computer is quicker now, love it

  • I E 8 - beware - I put it on our brand new HP computer running Vista 64 bit (this was also a mistake; XP is superior) and we couldn't open attachments. After 2 days of trying everything, I removed the Internet Explorer 8 "upgrade" and now things have calmed down. Opening attachements again. This is key, as we run a business here and have to use email.

  • Let me ask you this, how much memory do you have on your computer? To run vista properly you need at least 2 gigs.

  • It has 2 GB of memory. It is just that Vista is not compatible with my Sony Handycam, nor with my E Fax service. My computer with XP is fine with Handycam and Efax. It is the compatibility thing, and now this IE 8 upgrade causes chaos.

  • What about the Goatse Man?

  • check the italian viral videos about explorer 8 . tag: explorer otto

  • Love it!

  • Wonderful, an update to overcome privacy problems created by the original browser.

  • IE8 is itself a mistake, as is Windows Vista.

  • Develpors!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • they only included the interesting stuff. youre looking for the 'retarded 10 year olds' video.

  • safari best proof every wer dont denie

  • firefox ftw!!

  • The Gentleman is my favorite. Right after the unicorns that shun. FUNNY!

  • got internet explorer 8yesturday, is it safe?I weird, but I'll get use to it.

  • don't fight people. (but IE = BS) :D

  • boycot microsoft. Buy a linux netbook they're cool, cheap, and you can flip microsoft the bird.

  • Damnnn that's cool. haha Very cool video. You should most definitely make more in the future. haha This is too interesting!

  • IE is used by almost all companies on the planet. Nobody cares about the 20 thousand youtube users browsing with chrome. nevertheless ie sucks.

  • Wait, people actually use Chrome?

  • lolim using it right now so yea :)

  • Yeah. What the hell kinda question is that? I use Chrome sometimes.

  • "Then I want to sprinkle a little bit of DEVELOPERS!!! on top of it!"

    Now THAT'S funny! XD

  • Nice. Promoted vids FTW. I would have never found this without it.

  • DEVELOPERS!!!

  • DUDE! what the hell!

  • I hate IE so much. People who still uses IE are so stupid. Why use IE, when Firefox and Chrome are out there. And for Mac users, Safari rocks as much as Firefox. BUT IE sucks!!!

  • You are stupid for calling people stupid for using browser they prefer. (Opera/Firefox user by the way)

  • @pookiewood especially considering the number of security flaws in internet explorer vs. other browsers.

  • @pookiewood Well no, if you call an IE user stupid they probably are computer illiterate because literate users do not even think of IE

  • Not a fan of IE AT ALL, but I found this amusing to watch. Chrome & Firefox ftw!

  • Not sure who this video is intended for... only developers would get the Balmer gag... and they already know IE8 is **** anyway.

After IE7 came out, I just assumed Microsoft fired all their employees in disgust- which caretakers were left to knock up 8?

...maybe the guys who were *supposed* to be busy with vista?

  • I can't believe Microsoft is actually promoting this browser as a porn-viewing platform. As a developer, I really hope this browser doesn't waste hours of my time accommodating it like IE 7. But at the very least, I hope it will at least squeeze IE 6 out of the market. It's annoying to have to build second versions of websites so the 80+ demographic can view them.

  • It's VERY annoying to have to build second versions of websites

  • Great video, but I think I'll stick with Google Chrome

  • chrome is the shizit!!

  • This is great! Parry Gripp's music makes it awesome!

  • nom nom nom nom nom nom nom

  • thanks was wondering the music x

  • . . .You mean that hasn't been private all this time? People could see. . .I mean all that shopping of course, that's what I'm talking about. They could see all my freakin p- shopping? Jeez :(

  • The script for this video is awesome. I like the direction Microsoft is going!

    Lol at this video now!

  • I like the final ninja scream.... "IE8!"

  • Personally I prefer Google Chrome. :D

  • Everyone arguing that Microsoft cannot switch to the latest web standards is full of it. I use Opera happily, which is up to date on every aspect as far as I know.

  • Firefox is still much better. Explorer stinks since its first version.

  • ((Watch my review on the Private mode for ie 8!))

  • I wonder if Microsoft wrote the script?

  • At least they didn't use a MacBook for the laptop in this commercial, unlike the last one Microsoft did.

Oh yeah and Chrome, Safari or Firefox. Anything is better than IE

  • I agree.

  • Go to hell, IE8

  • What the hell is this ? Are they serious or just on drugs ? ...

It must be painful for Microsoft to go with such poooooor videos ...

    Get a Macintosh.

  • i went through it about 3 laughs per minute

  • Yay Dave Hill!

  • How come you only copy firefox... Innovate for Christ sakes...

  • How come firefox is only copying Opera

  • Awesome ad. It won't make me use IE8... But at least I won't hate microsoft for making it ^^

  • I guess that is what MS intended

  • probably the best thing about linux is the lack of idiotic commercials and viral web videos

  • great ad, horrible horrible browser.

  • good but still has too much microsoft cheese on it

  • I wish they had spent the money actually making IE8 standards compliant rather than making this stupid commercial.

  • Actually Internet Explorer 8 has pushed to be compliant with web standards like CSS 2.1 and HTML 5. It also includes Compatibility Mode to help render pages designed for older browsers.

  • Compatibility mode will not make any design studio happy. Who would really want to see web pages the way older versions of IE would render it (wrong)?

  • Compatibility Mode is a tool to help the transition as websites become more compliant with accepted web standards. Not all websites will be using current standards immediately and it allows users to still have a useful browsing experience when visiting older sites.

  • They're not using standards because of your browser. It's probably a good idea not to sing your own praises too highly - IE is what is wrong with the internet.

    Funny video. Crappy browser.

  • All of the net isn't made by professional designers and most users, who know nothing of standards, blame the browser if a website that used to work on an older one no longer works. Microsoft is aiming to please most of its users without breaking web standards. (Hence you turn comp mode on and off). Considering they are doing that I find it hard for people to complain.

Is the web not compliant because of the browser, or is the browser not compliant because of the web? It's more or less both.

  • "All of the net isn't made by professional designers and most users, who know nothing of standards, blame the browser if a website that used to work on an older one no longer works." There are the tools to help then, actually Microsoft Visual Studio and Microsoft Web Designer supports XHTML 1.1 strict and IE7 didn't. You just had to say it to check for that standard and it tells you where you did something wrong and how to fix it. Oh... and it's easy to see in the GUI.

  • Why do you think IE8 is not made standards compliant? Have you ever even used IE8 yet? As for Compatibility Mode , as someone pointed out it will make the transition much more somooth. Many web administrators and users are going to like it. Please be mature /considerate when think about this issue. We already know it's just so easy to be critical.

  • I don't think anyone said IE8 is not standards compliant - previous versions of IE are definitely not, but IE8 looks to be a great step in the right direction. It's just not enough when every single one of their competitors is so much further ahead with regards to features, standards and speed. It's like wheeling out last year's model with a fancy marketing slogan on it, and expecting us to accept that it's this years model.

  • "I don't think anyone said IE8 is not standards compliant "

Wooo...hermitdate just said that, please correct him/her.

Plus, I'm not interested in discussing "previous versions of IE ", I'm talking about IE8.

"every single one of their competitors is..."

Tell me about it. Which "competitor" offers great features like visual search, web slice or accelerators? In terms of speed, it is found IE8 is often faster than other browsers (search this on web).

  • I'm not sure I believe the numbers Microsoft released around the speed of their browser. They are subjective at best, and the other browser makers are touting numbers and real data that is hard to ignore.

Back to the standards compliance issue - the standards support is not as good as I would have hoped. Have you tried running it against some of the industry benchmarks like the ACID suite? The results are not good.

Anyway, I've had my say - Funny video. (not as) Crappy browser.

    Carry on :)

  • If you are not sure whether you believe the data why you claim speed of IE8 is not as good as its competitors? From my use I experience IE8 faster than firefox (maybe equally fast as Chrome). You are welcome to publish your own research and I would be love to read.

As for the standards issue, what is "standard" anyway? For a long time IE was the standard. Now things have changed and IE is made more compatible with other "standards". We should applaud this move rather than bashing it.

  • You guys have to much time on your hands.

  • "what is "standard" anyway? For a long time IE was the standard."

the World Wide Web Consorcium is who regulates it, not Microsoft. W3C was founded in '94 (IE was released on '95). Every W3C standards is free to use and encoraged to implement. They defined HTML, and it's tags, but Microsoft desided to change their behavior and add new tags, and lots of webs used them because IE was market dominant (not standard). By the way the first browser was called Mosaic, not IE.

  • IE is a nightmare to design for. I hope that IE8 works properly. We'll just have to see, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

  • great.. now lets just get them to be complient with CSS3 before the end of the century...

  • This is a good thing, since web devoplers can write there code in web standards and not have to worry about if it will work in other browsers like Opera

  • Do'nt you mean that Compatibility Mode helps render pages designed for old INCompatibile IE BROWSERS!

  • IE8 IE8 IE ~~~ 8 !

  • I didn't like the ninja. But I did laugh a couple of times. Well done Microsoft advertiser peoples.

  • watch'd this in HD on IE8 n it just crashed .. :X

  • haha

  • Yup, almost as good as last year's Firefox or Chrome.

Still no XHTML support, though. The spec is only 10 year old, though.

    Microsoft needs to be destroyed.

  • In a few years, people will say: "eh! do you remember when there was horrible thing on the internet ... no not tub girls ... no not rickrolls ... no that piece of crap software you had to use at work that kept crashing and sucking ... internet explo ... something ..."

  • Haha. Like the comment about InPrivate. "Ohhh ohhhh, now i get it".

  • "Ooooh, I get it. It's like that private browsing feature every other browser has had for the last 2 years, but with a dodgy marketing name INSTEAD OF JUST CALLING IT WHAT IT ACTUALLY IS!"

    Microsigh...

  • every browser that has it calls it something along the lines of Private browsing. what's the big deal? Besides, for Firefox at least, you still have to get an extension

  • Partial enough, windowspczone?
