my goal is to attend SUNY Purchase for the Acting B.F.A program! I've had my eyes set on this college for a while now, so hopefully I make it in next fall! Follow me on twitter! @MichaelwHoward
Hey i'm a junior in high school now and next school year I'm thinking about applying to purchase. When I think of diverse I think of race. What is the dominate race at the school. And on avarege what is the percentage of African American students there. Also do you know anything about the journalism program at purchase? If you do how is it?
Of course, everyone's definition of "diverse" is much different. At Purchase, a lot of students with different socio-economic backgrounds, religious beliefs, sexual preferences and artistic abilities/tastes converge. You can find pretty much anything you're looking for in some shape or form.
@SLYBOOTSVIDEO Yayy! that sounds awesome man, i really want to go to purchase to experience this life. I am just afraid because i wont know anybody and most likely wont live on campus for the first semester. I have had a bad HS experience cuz i didnt fit in, I am hoping going to purchase would change that. Do you have any advice?
@guitarshredder920 I loved Purchase. I left and I miss it. The Stood is awesome. The VA building is awesome. Lots of talented people go to Purchase. It's definitely diverse. The only thing that would stop you from liking Purchase is if you were a homophobe, racist, complete and utter closed book, etc. Visit Purchase.
Thanks for the info Slyboots. Okay, i almost just spit up my morning coffee...Purchase has a STARBUCKS? WTF?? Corporate america has invaded. Back in the mid 90's, the only thing that we had to deal with in that respect was (of course) Pepsico across the street & the fact that the performing arts theatre was funded & named after them. Geez, talk about times-they-are-a-changin'. Oh, & what's with the lame name "Fort Awesome"? Ugh.
Yeah...to be fair, the food service on campus, Chartwells, licenses the Starbucks name, so it's not a full fledged starbucks. But Chartwells is a huge corporation itself...
Anyway, the school build a huge new dorm back in 05 and decided they'd have a contest to name it. Fort Awesome was one of the names and it won. Oddly enough, it's that simple.
sounds great...i'm thinking about going to Suny purchase and i checked their website but i really kinda wanted to also know about how the student life is there..this really looks like a lot of fun and a great, creative atmosphere to be in! nice video :)
If you check out the rest of the Purchase related videos I've posted I think you can get a fair assessment of whats up. Of course, things and people are constantly changing, so don't base everything you know off of these videos. Visit, walk around, talk to people!
I am applying to SUNY Purchase for Film for this Fall 2010. I am just wondering how campus life is (I will probably be living at home for the first year), and I will transfer out the end of my second year to a college in California.
Also, how are the girls at Purchase? Are they hot? lol
I figure if you're just going to transfer out at the end of the first year, you might as well not waste your time (and the school's time, for that matter) by going to Purchase.
I went to Purchase in the mid-90's & i see that it's still the same, & i mean that in the very best way possible...it is the most unique place for artists & performers, Purcgase was always flying just under the radar. Loved it, miss it. One question: where is The Stood located? It wasn't around when i went there. We all hung out at Pub in Campus Center North, or Coffeehouse in Campus Center South. These still around? thanks fpr posting!
The Stood is directly behind Humanities. I believe it was the Butler Building back in the day, but I may be wrong. CCN stopped serving beer and is just called The Hub now and CCS is home to Terra Ve, the vegetarian cafe. They built a Starbucks on the first floor of the newest dorm called Fort Awesome, so the coffee shop in CCS was shut down.
I hear ya. Well, the school is located in Westchester County which is north of NYC. There is no local setting to speak of because the school is in the middle of the woods; there's no "town" except for White Plains or Port Chester both of which are accessible via car or public bus.
For academics, you'll have to check out the website because, depending on what you're looking for, the environment you'll encounter will be different.
Appreciate it. I'm looking at graduate schools for Art History (coming off of undergraduate degree in Dramatic Writing with only an Art Hist. minor). I know Purchase is big into theater so I thought the academic environment might be good for me.
That's too bad about the campus. I go to SCAD in Savannah now, and the city and the college are really interconnected. Our "campus" is all over the city. Sounds like it would be a rough transition.
do u think its easy to still make friends even if u dont dorm and you live like 25 min away in rockland county ?

Well...I'm sorry I can't give you your three valuable minutes back. What were you hoping for, exactly?
SLYBOOTSVIDEO 2 years ago
Something about the academic environment, or the local setting, or anything someone coming to the area/school might want to know.
I don't mean to hate on you, but SUNY Purchase seems to have virtually no youtube presence.
