  • so much unison!! so much grace!! so effortless!!!

  • while i'm watching their LP (moonlight sonata) , i was also reading ''My Sergei'' Book .. so amazing :) im very inspired to their true to life story ..

  • Gordeeva - a ballerina on ice...

  • @lengai111 Truly she is! It's amazing. Every movement is so polished and graceful.

  • if katya had not 2-footed, would have bee 6s all the way across. Greatest competitive program i've ever seen (along with Olympic performances of T&D, YunaKim)

  • This was a beautiful performance and they really deserved their win here. Personally, I thought M + D had the superior skate at Olympics however and were unlucky not to get the Gold at Lillehammer. Same could be said for Torvill & Dean and Nancy Kerrigan there as well I suppose.

  • agli europei sono stati fantastici ed hanno meritato la vittoria. castigati, elegantissimi, ispirati

  • I never say any pair ever performed the star lift as good as G&G did. An excepctional precision of her position in the air, with both arms off him.

  • These couple was the reason for loving this sport. What pasion in the ice. The very best ever.

  • I'll tell you - when I saw they were skating to Moonlight Sonata I thought, "Oh, NO!" - you CANNOT compete with the Protopopovs but fortunately they selected different edits of the music.

  • they're perfection.

  • if I hear Scott Hamilton say beautiful one more time for something mediocre at best, i think i will scream. Wish it was Paul Wylie, Robin Cousins or Peter Carruthers partnering with Sandra in the commentary; they always appreciate artistry over the "wow" factor of just landing a jump.

  • If you're saying this was Scott Hamilton announcing - its not. Are you talking about some other performance?

  • I was talking more about SH's commentary in general. Go back and watch some of the programs and count how many times he says beautiful, then analyze if it actually was beautiful. Never heard a word so abused.

  • @Fabstaire In this commentary, it's Peter Carruthers.

  • They were perfection, in every way

  • Very rare to see these two make a mistake. They were as close to perfect as any pairs skaters could ever get. Beautiful. What a tragic ending though.

  • I remember watching this on T.V. 15 years ago... Katia and Sergei drew me in and with this mesmerizing performance. Never had a witnessed a skate so beautiful.

  • For me this was the best pair skating exercise ever; I still remember the day I saw it. Thanks for uploading. His death nearly 2 years later was such a tragedy.

  • I read Katia Gordeeva's memoir and ever since wanted to see this performance. AMAZING!! how beautiful!

  • by far the best pairs team ever .... sure, the teams do harder jumps now but in terms of their smooth skating and unison and choreography ..... without parallel!

  • I agree 1,000 percent! They were technically classic, brilliant, the most amazing skating pair I've ever seen.

  • Lutz, you have to admit, it is really difficult to find a more perfect, higher and softy landed triple throw (the vertical throw) than G&G's. Of course it goes w/o saying their speed, glide factor, musicality, artistry will never be equaled. Hell will freeze over first.

  • Beautiful! RIP Sergei! Missed after 13 years still!

  • I couldn't agree more!

  • I completely agree.

  • That's probably the best I've seen them skate this number, nice post. It should have been all 6.0s for artistic impression.

Does anybody know if M&D competed at Skate Canada in 93?

  • Thank you Elee1286

    Thank you Sergei and Ekaterina

  • Thank you. They are amazing!

  • yey! i'm first!

    love the two!
