to anyone that wants to know why this ACTUALLY happens, it's because the cube is in a small box made out of a nodraw texture that lets you see into the "void" but you cannot touch the void, so it does an overlap of any color it can process to fill the void space.....

or the cube is covered in LSD filled needles....

It's because both games -- Portal and Left 4 Dead -- were made using the Source engine. As a result, the mechanics that apply to Portal apply to Left 4 Dead as well.
