easy now folks...our military here in the US could give the IDF a run for their money. Although we train together and share secrets so any future conflicts between us and them will lead to heavy losses on both sides..even without nukes. Just like the US military the IDF draws from the best of every country, I even know some Jewish Americans that serve in the IDF.

lotar eilat is very good, but israel's pride and joy is a toss up between shayetet 13 or sayeret matkal. either way, israel has some pretty kick ass soldiers. when i went to israel in 2005 with my class we did gadna (training with the IDF) for 2 weeks and i have to say, they are well trained.

Serving 3 months a year + being on call constantly, which carries a heavy price professionally (getting fired or not accepted for work) and family-wise. Yes. However, you'll need to becaome an Israeli citizen as well. Following our well known horrible history, Israel was established as a safety place for Jewish people, so to get an Israeli citizenship, you'd need to be Jewish, or have Jewish ancestry. (People who convert to Judaism are also welcomed as citizens). Exceptions are the Druz peole, who declared loyalty ro Israel, and the Muslim(!) nomadic Beduys, who've done the same. They serve in the IDF, and are highly regarded by us!
