I just made this. It came out quite small! I'm not great at working in continual rounds lol. Took me around an hour... I used a double knit yarn. Is that the same as a worsted weight?
@tjw1963 thank you! I made 6 of these already! I am going to fill them with goodies for friends and family for Christmas. Great pattern and the video really helped. Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a Merry Christmas :)
i was very confused whn watching this.. i didnt understand all the words or directions it made it very confusing for me to look at what you were doing thn watch the words..
I know it has been said many times, but this is a great video. A simple & great project for beginners; which I am. I have one question: After rounds 9-16, how do you join the yarn to start round 17?
When you say "without joing" does that just mean not to do a chain before I start next round of sc? I am just learning and want this to be my first project :) Tahnks
@tjw1963 ok thanks. One more question rounds 2-7 you say will be 22 sc. Can you explain that a little to me? I just thought that we were doing 11 sc so where does the 22 come from? Sorry to bug, thanks so much!
I'm not sure if this has been said already, but instead of cutting the red yarn, why not just leave it loose and pick it up again when making the loop in the end? That way there is less to tie off and tuck. :)
@tjw1963 I meant when you make the loop to hang it on the tree. Just as I do the last st with the red, I ch about 25 then sl st it back into the beginning st. That way there is only one red string to tuck into the stocking in the end. I hope that makes sense and isn't more confusing, lol! In any case, I've made 10 so far in my quest to make 24 for my grade 2 class as christmas presents. Thanks for the great tutorial!
tjw, I'm making the christmas wreath from your page and I ran out of metal rings for the wreath. Can you recommend a sight where I can buy 6" inch rings. Thanks
I'm planning on having a fund raising for the support of alzhiemers the colors are purple and white do you have any suggestions on what I can make that is useful for the buyers? Your response is greatly appreciated
I have found that small items, less than $5.00 sell well at fundraisers. I have three tutorials for snowflakes and should have a 4th by the end of the week. They will probably sell well. There are a couple of crochet butterflies that you may want to look at. You can glue magnets to the back of them and use them as a refrigerator magnet.
Do you know how to make and oldfashioned Christmas tree topper such as an angel or a star? I wounder if you know how to crochet the nativity set how would you make it stiff and if you use starch what kind would you use ?
I love this pattern and thanks for putting this tutorial here. I have a ? are you skipping a SC anytime thru out this tutorial? Does OVER mean skipping one SC and doing the other and skipping the other and so on? Thanks again!
Thank you. "Over" means "in" each stitch, with my thought process at that point in the video. After the 8 SC, there are 7 that are skipped to form the toe. The instructions are posted on my crochet blog if there is ever any confusion.
Hi, quick question, on my crochet hooks they are marked in numbers and not letters, I have 12 hooks starting from 2mm to 10mm how will I know which hook to use to do the same as you?
In a way it is being turned around but not like a typical row. You will be working an additional 11 SC down the opposite side of the chain. You are creating an opening so little goodies can be hidden in it.
Just as a constructive suggestion, you should show a picture of the finished product at the beinning of the video. This project looks REALLY neat!!!!!!!!!!!!
great video teresa thnks so much that will be my next project trying to make a top keep fingers crossed *snickers* .. you have taught me so much *waves* bye for now :) ...van
@tjw1963 where on your blog? When I click the link for written instructions it takes me to the red crocheted ball. This will be my first crochet pattern ever so I am anxious to start. Love it!

You crochet to the left, does it matter if instead of going to the left as you work, you go to the right?
twitcher01 3 years ago
I crochet to the left because I am right handed. Left handed people will crochet to the right.

You join the stitch you are finishing with the beginning stitch. You are creating an opening to make the stocking.

if i was to make a bigger stocking do i just increase the chain to make it bigger

It would be the same general idea. You would need to revise the calf size as it goes up.
