All hail the great Thunderbolt! I love these sirens, especially at this chopper level. I used to live in Oklahoma, and there was one of these beauties about 50 feet away from my apartment building. I used to go outside and listen to it. I love the way they growl. :)
Lol, you beat me to it. I've been meaning to record this sucker all summer. Definitely level 3. While she sounds healthy, her horn is showing some corrosion around the opening. The sad part about the sirens in ripon, is I can hear this Thunderbolt over the STL-10 in the Family Video parking lot and the 2001 on city hall. The T-bolt is about a mile away, the STL-10 is about 1/2 a mile, and the 2001 is about 3/4 a mile.
Thought it was Level 3. Hmm, the horn looked alright when I saw it last. No major corrosion on it, though, unlike a differen ThunderBolt I saw somewhere, where in entire chopper section looked messed up.
Haha, more to the ThunderBolt, then. The STL-10s aren't as loud as a T-Bolt, I must say, but it's surprising that the 2001 can't be heard over the T-Bolt, at that distance, hmm.
Think about that for a moment. The Thunderbolt is MUCH older than the 2001. Granted you can hear the 2001, but if the 2001 is pointing at you and the thunderbolt starts pointing at you, it's all thunderbolt.
There MIGHT be a 2T22, but I have yet to find it. The sirens that I know of are the 2001 on top of city hall/police station, this 1000T on the west side on Hwy 23, A STL-10 in the Family Video parking lot, and a STL-10 right next to the rear Highschool parking lot. I have yet to ask the EMA about all the sirens in town. Also, I swear there used to be a flat black 1000T on top of City Hall/Police department, but I think the 2001 replaced it.
No problem, Robert. It's always fun recording these sirens.
I'm not sure. They city just randomly set it up to whichever pitch they liked. I'll have to look if there's any ThunderBolts set to chopper speed #1, though.
Didn't know lower pitches fared better in air. Thanks for letting me know!
If we had a screwdriver,(only 1 bolt holding the cover closed) we could have actually flipped open the RCM cabinet and swapped the terminals to the #1 tap, hehehehe

Very cool Thunderbolt Justin.

Thank you, Justin.
Why not set on chopper speed #1 (lowest) to get greatest distance, since lower frequencies suffer less attenuation in air?

Thank you. :) Ah, I wouldn't have guessed it was chopper level 2. It sounds great!
JustInn014 2 years ago
No, that's for sure 3. I've heard all 7 chopper settings in person and the one I heard on 3 sounds at the exact pitch as this one does.
