  • If that's really a '79, then the 460 engine was not an option that year. That engine was discontinued after '78.

  • '79 the last year for this monster size, big cadillac brougham last year was '76

  • Great looking car. I just bought EXACTLY the same model. Same options, same trim level exactly, except mine is a Canadian car, and has a moonroof. (Could not tell if your did. ) I'm so pleased you included the colour and upholstery codes. My interior is an 8 out of 10, with some minor body work, a paint job and new vinyl roof to make her complete. Only 86,000 miles and she still purrs. My goal will be to get her looking as good as yours, and I'll be using your video as my guide. Thanks!

  • these are beautiful cars but I think they look weird with the oval opera windows considering that the doors have windows

  • That's real luxury!

  • great car, great color, i agree about the colors of the seventies, the jade green metalic w/white top was great and there was nothing like the cordovan or the collectors dark blue. nothing like that anymore, only boring white or beige, and as far as interiors.... forget it. only the choice of black, grey or beige. nothing like matching the great color on the outside with the inside. i think the turqoise on the 77-79 lincolns was one of the best.

  • @thelottiejune Thank you for the compliments. Yes, I miss colors as well.....

  • How smooth and quiet do these old Lincolns ride?

  • beauty

  • Thanks for your help! It worked!

  • Love your car! I have the same in white, with a brown vinyl roof. I drove it in CA since 2005 and then decided to ship it to Holland, Europe. It arrived last month and now I drive it here. I have a question for you, I can't find how to adjust the steering wheel in height. Don't see any button or so, but I am sure it is possible. Do yo know how to do that?

  • @jorritvander Tilt steering was optional. If you do indeed have a Town Car or Coupe then your car is likely equipped. While sitting in the driver's seat gently push back on the turn signal lever. If it easily glides back toward the dash then you have tilt steering. Push the lever until the wheel moves either up or down and adjust to your liking then release the lever. Enjoy your Lincoln!

  • @jonesh70

What will you do when the gas is ten dollar a gallon.

  • @johnsenkenn Through my own hard work I am blessed and fortunate to be in a position that fuel prices are of little concern to me. I suppose that when I desire to back the Lincoln out of the garage and drive it I will do just that regardless of the cost of a gallon of fuel. I am more concerned over the effects of the elements on the car therefore it spends most of it's time covered and in the garage.

  • @jonesh70

Ha...ha...you are a lucky man, are there any special tax on a car in the states, such as a tax on the mileage - the size. Here we have what they to day call an environment tax, it's a tax on mileage, from gas...100 dollars to 2300 dollars to diesel ....140 to 2600 dollars a year, plus 180 dollars if you don't have a particle filter. before it was a tax on weight, yours would be up about 2500 dollars a year, mine a Peugeot around 2000 pound is 540 dollars a year.

  • @jonesh70

Good one you. Your gas is cheap anyway. We pay close to $7.00 per your gallon but we still drive V8's and Jags and Bentley's.

I have a Jag under covers in my shed. drive it a few times per year, but it is still nice to experience the ambiance from time to time. A bussiness associate had 3 Rollers which he drives from time to time as well.

  • Very nice in top condition!!!!!!

  • .Sad thing is their is no uniqueness to car colors anymore. Now of days it's the same old same old exterior and interior colors in the vast majority of cars made today.

  • @SteelCity1981 I was saying the same thing recently about the sameness of today's car colors. A young-ish coworker was making fun of the pastel blue color of an early 80s Ford and I told him that, until sometime in the late 80s (if I remember correctly), there was a lot more variety in car colors. Then in the late 80s it got reduced basically to just black, white, grey, silver, red, or dark blue, with very few exceptions, and it's been that way ever since.

  • @SteelCity1981 I agree. I am so tired of Bone, Buff and Biscuit as color choices. Interior choices today suck both in fabrics and colors. All is well if you like gray or tan mouse fur. I remember when choices included things like brocade, plaid, leather and vinyl. Cars today are just overpriced, unexciting junk with entirely too many useless gadgets. I won't even get started with model names.

  • diamond edtion corrext?

  • Very nice car. Was looking at your description. Wasn't the 460 dropped altogether in '79 so ford could meet government C.A.F.E requirements ?

  • @43500534 I'm glad you asked. This has turned out to be an interesting topic of discussion among friends. A few insist that it was indeed optional in 1979 and others are of your thought. In looking into this further, I have a few books on the subject that contradict each other. Until you asked, I assumed my original information was correct. I will have to look into this further! The '79 sales brochure makes no reference to it. The dealer album does. Which is correct? Thanks for bringing this up.

  • @jonesh70 It's quite possible that it was available for a bit and was then dropped so there could be some out there. Would be great to know.

  • 77 thur 79 ..Best years for the Towncar. Last of the land yachts.

  • Town car was a trim package on the continental until 1981

  • Great! One question.I own a 1977 Lincoln TC,on the right hand side of the dash the emblem says Lincoln Continental.Yours says Lincoln Town Car.How come?

  • @fespar I'm not sure of protocol in 1977, but in 1979 the Continental was the base model. Town Car and Town Coupe were optional packages along with the Collectors' Series. The Town Cars & Coupes had additional standard equipment that was optional on the Continental. For these two models the script on the dash indicated which one you were riding in.

  • @jonesh70 I'm having the same discussion with bigblockelectra, only it's concerning the '78 model. I've never seen a '78 4-door Continental that did not have Town Car badging. I've seen them optioned out so many different ways that I can't figure out what the Town Car "package' would consist of. If the TownCar was indeed a option package then I think most buyer chose to get it, making the base Continental kinda rare. It's really bugging me not knowing for sure. I will have to investigate.

  • The Lincoln Town Car is the King of the road trip!

  • i just bought one of these about 5 hours ago... $2500, 22805 miles, white exterior, beige interior

  • My daily driver is a very nice 1978 Continental Town Coupe. 55K original miles, leather, 460. I love it.

  • I had a 77 Town Coupe, LOVED IT!!! Everything positive said about these cars is 100% true. If you wnat luxurey, power, room for 6 adults and lived in a time when gas was dirt cheap, you could beat this for the money. God save Wixom, MI!

  • You lucky fuck!!!

  • We had a '77 "back in the day", and I'll never forget it. The 400 engine was still strong enough (I suspect the axle ratio was adjusted for the smaller engine), it still had the horizontal bar speedometer and had a rotary rudder control.... most people call them a steering wheel, but if you've driven one of these - you know what I mean! Truly a pleasure drive, floating softly down the highway! Ahhh!

  • that backseat looks like a bed!

  • SWOON!!!!

I still have our old black with moonroof and 131k. But it's been rotting for a decade or more now. Esp. since I busted the radiator on it (by corrsosion).

I LOVE these cars. Grew up with them and drove them as my 1st cars.

    Gorgeous.

  • Beautiful Town Car! It's so big and roomy! Those seats look so comfortable, the lincoln design in them looks fantastic, this is a true luxury car

  • my cousin had a 75 marquis with a cam

  • great town car, i love these!... i have a '73 Mark IV wich i like a little bit more cause it's a 2 door...yours does seem in prestine condition!!...

  • that is a beautiful car .. i m jellous cause I have a new Lincoln and mine pales by comparison.

  • 400 - now maybe 405 CI... The Tranny is remanufactured, CV driveshaft new, rear wheel bearings new, AC comp. new, interior aged and moldy velour. Back when I first got it I was able to lock the cruise control and get 'clocked' at 145 MPH. Smooth as silk.

  • The engine is a rebuilt 351 Clev. Mod. further modified with an Edelbrock intake and Holley 4 bbl Carb. Need headers (Hookers wouldn't fit) and larger exhaust dia. Dual of course...

  • I have a '79 I believe was custom ordered only because of the 'medallion' like plaque above the glovebox, "Lincoln" logo and the name of the Dr. who bought the car new. I drove it as a taxi in New Orleans less than 2 years. I want to make a Cabriolet out of it. Sort of a "Ranchero" Lincoln. I intend to cut off the part of the roof that is clad with vinyl and put a partition behind the front seat, weld the rear doors shut for frame rigidity, and maybe make a Barracuda-style fastback roof/window

  • Wow. The very last of the big American boats, downsized for 1980. What a car!!!

Nice job, keep her pretty! :-)

  • Very nice car. I'd like to have one of these but it's too big for my garage!

  • is the sheet metal they used for the body of the caers back in the 70s and 80s the same quality and strengh as the metal they use on modern carS

  • the sheet metal they used in the 70's was far superior to what they use today. You wouldn't want to get hit by this baby in a car of today. Even what they call a full size car today is what used to be a midsize car.

  • ohh sweet. whats like the difference? thicker steel?

is the sheet metal on my 86 buick park avenue tough?

  • Yeah I'm sure the sheet metal got thinner on the newer cars after 79. Not only did they downsize lengthwise, everything was reduced...especially quality. I feel very safe in my 79 Towncar. The only time I feel unsafe is when I am around a Hummer or a big pick-up like a Dodge Ram or something similar. I don't really know if the sheet metal on your 86 is tough or not...they just make cars different today i.e., no chrome, lots of plastic etc...

  • The 79 lincoln was THEE Last full size luxury car made in THE WORLD!!

  • what about the caddilac fleetwood, went all the way to 92 and remained BIGG

  • But not nearly as big as this '79 Lincoln. GM full-sized cars, including Caddies, peaked in size in '73-76, and then they were downsized substantially for '77. Lincolns stayed huge through '79 and then downsized in '80. The Fleetwoods were downsized in 77 and had roughly that same downsized 1977 body style through 1992, by which time they were called Broughams. Big, but still much smaller than a max-size 70s luxury car like this '79 Lincoln or a '76 Cadillac.

  • oh ic,and ducky lots of cars are coming back with chrome nd even actual wood trim which is nice.

just rmemebr, even in ur 79 lincoln, ur alot safer and stuff when ur going moderately fast, but in ANY car going down the highway at 100, if u smoke something headon, ur car will stop , u will stop but ur heart and shit are strill going 100 and airbags or crumple zones wont help u their :p

i made a few vids on my buick park avenue 1986. hopeu can check em out and sub if u like lol

  • These didnt have the air shocks that plagued the next generation of lincolns.

  • very nice

  • great car!

  • Wow, that is a nicely kept Lincoln~!

  • One big car!

  • Nice color !

  • i had the same one but leather cardier on the dash it was my first love but i could'nt keep it up like it should be so i gave it up

  • Nice!!

I say 'fuck the gas'. I'm in the u.k. My wife drives a Caddy STS as a daily driver.I own a 68 Fleetwood and a 67 Fury. My son has a 61 Invicta.Nothing does over 18 mpg.

My philosophy? - We should all drive round in big safe cars that gobble up the gas real fast so the planet savers can all concentrate on finding a cleaner alternative!

Who wants a crout buggy or a shitty Eurobox?

Hit a tree in a Japanese tuna tin and you're dead Man.Yankie guzzlers rule!

    That's the attitude! YE-HA!!!!

  • you're goddamn right!!! engines got to be... fuckin big and thirsty!!! 572 bigblock!!!!

  • @pongtubepete HELLS YEA! I drive a big ass Cadillac, and as well I drive a 69 Imperial on one of my vids on here. I get 14mpg with my big 440 lmao! Say what "Global Warming" HAHAHA

  • @flightmaster178

    Way to go flightmaster!

    Keep up the good work!!!!

Don't let the price of gas spoil our fun. Life's like a firework- you're only lit once!!!! YEEHAA!!!

  • @pongtubepete hell YES. lol or when you yell into car you can hear yourself echo. i love the old american stuff Eh? lol

  • Gorgeous Lincoln! I am about to purchase a 1988 Town Car that is in absolutely mint, un-touched condition. I am looking forward to owning it.

  • i had this exact car, then i two toned mine black and gold

  • We had a 78 Continental Town Car. I miss it as it was great for traveling long distances. The ride was as smooth as glass. When someone else was driving it the car would put me right off to sleep.

  • What a heap of shit... Its too bad the government cant outlaw vehicles that are over 30 years old... like that fucking shitbox... all that does is waste precious fucking fuel... FUCKING POS

  • Fuck your precious fuel. We're Americans. You should see the fuel we utilize and waste in the military. Millions of gallons a day. No one is bitching about that. You know why? Because we've got wars to fight and people to kill; these wars are fought to make the rich people richer and more powerful. Never forget that son.

  • you mean like you?

  • Good come back to something that was written 4 MONTHS AGO!!! Fuck tard.

  • My aunt had a car like this she bought new. It was blue with a white top.

  • Blue with a white top? I know they had some unique colour schemes in that time but I never saw blue and white. Add some red seats and call it the Patriotic Lincoln!

  • That car is in pristine condition; especially the interior which looks showroom new. Interesting is the extra cost Jubilee Gold paint, not sure but I think the first time Ford offered an extra cost paint option was on the 1972 Thunderbirds which could be ordered with a special "Glamour" paint.

  • Are larger cars harder to drive? They look very difficult to turn with.

  • These cars are like driving a cloud. My boss put armor all on his seats once and made a hard left. he ended up in the passengers side. BUT. the car straightend its self out. I thougth that was interesting. Also... Dont armorall lether bench seats. haha

  • That's really funny. LOL.

  • This car was made in a time when a mans status was determined by the tonnage of his car. And my friend this car was weighty. When you pulled up in this the ladies knew you had arrived.

  • I love people who love big cars. What's wrong with Americans being so fickle? We want big cars dammit!! Just don't drive as much if gas is high.

  • ahahahahaha you sound like the BIGGEST moron.. I have EVER seen... yeah if only it was that easy genius... just dont drive as much! hahahaha wow.. arent you the posterboy for ignorance.. no go crawl back under the rock youve been living under for the past 15years... dumbass

  • I smell a Marine. Why don't you sign up son. I just retired as Colonel. We need men like you. Get your ass down to Parris Island and back that puke mouth up with some action.

  • lol you tell him. Get a Motorcycle, (for gas) a weekend car like this,(for weekends duh) and a work truck or van,(bring home that green spell were under. MONEY!) And your SET!!!!! yes!

  • Precisely. LOL. Also, Americans are huge people, 200-350 pounds a piece on average, and very tall. I don't know why some people hate the Town car. It's the best production car in the world under $50,000. Check out George Carlin's fat people. You'll laugh your ass off.

  • Nice ride! I love these big boats!

  • I'm loving that car but I would have put some modern stuff in it like an ipod hook up and cd player yet still this car is awesome.

  • yeah, that would be sweet. But I would also like to keep the classic eight track and radio.

  • WOW what a car my GrandFather has a 1978 Lincoln Continental marine blue with a white vinyl top signature series and has over 300000 miles on it all original 460 cu in doesn't look as new as it ones did but for the miles it has sure still looks nice, yours just looks brand new keep it looking like that too

  • awesome

  • Very nice Lincoln!

  • have you checked out displayfireworks1 lincoln? you should try get his radio + that wheel option off ebay...it would be a nice upgrade

  • Wow! What a beautiful car.

  • i saw one of these cars in a storage yard. not sure what year though, but it was HUGE! i'd still own one

  • They do have magnificent proportions. It is 21' long by 6' wide. My garage is 22' from door to wall so I have little wiggle room. But, I can get both the Town Car and the Fleetwood in there.

  • This is why i love these cars than 2days benzes and bentlys!

  • Tha interior is perfect!

  • love the interior

  • beautiful car!

  • Wonder what kind of MPG this monster gets?

  • i just recieved one for my graduation from my grandfather. i was very glad he gave this car to me and it let me know he trusts it with me. mine is a sweet white one with a maroon pinstripe and whitewash tires.

  • classic

  • Great car and beautiful color. Check out my videos, too. :)

  • so pimp

  • My maternal grandmother's last car was a '79 Town Car exactly the same color as this but with gold leather seats instead of the velour. Haven't seen one in ages. The '79 Town Cars were the last of the 70s-style truly full size cars. The other makes had already downsized considerably.

  • i had a 77 tc and could parallel park her no problem. got a used 99 and could park worth a damn. the car wasn't a cool as the 77 either.

  • bazzmeg,megzabál 100-on 50 litert!

  • Ez azért egy kis túlzás. Nekem egy 1977-es van. Az enyém beéri 24-25 literrel (10 MPG)Nézd meg a videóimat. :)

  • An olderman friend of man has one like this with 12k on it he had since new. Every once and a while he thinks about selling it.

  • Where in the world did you get those dealer binders with the interior and paint samples !?!?!? :O I have brochure but have never seen anything like that.

  • Both binders were lucky finds on E-bay about 5 yrs ago. I do see them on occasion so keep an eye out. There are also a few auto literature places that I buy from once in a while so you may want to google "auto literature" and search through those results. These binders really add to the overall enjoyment of the car and when I go to shows they are a nice addition for display.

  • you did a wonderful job of creating this video of your car but compared to the Lincolns of the 60's this car is not that attactive. Sorry but this is my oppenion.

  • That's O.K. We all have our own opinions- I appreciate your honesty. I like a few Continental models from the 60's, but this is what I grew up with.

  • yea lincolns are beautiful boat...i myslef have a 91 tc and with the exception of changing the suspension...cant say nething bad about my car...drives like a dream and can out gun pretty much nething on the street today with the exception of the new chevys ss and maybe a benz...other than that..nuttin can touch my tc...i got 145k on her and its like shes brand new...mpg is a lil rough but hey...gotta pay to look so good...

  • I had this same car! paid $2800 in 1999 and had to go to u pull it salvage to get parts for the A/C and a flywheel, in the end it was a true dream boat, but kept having problems.. show room cond, but I sold it in 2000 for only $1800 to make room for my new towncar. This was the most comfortable back seat car in the world, if you know what I mean...

  • I love Mark Vs and Town Cars from this era, the last great Lincolns with the most beautiful interiors, inspiring if I become a designer for autos. Beautiful car :].

  • hey nice car I had a seventy six but it wasnt the towncar version. I love lincoln and am now a proud owner of a 77 Lincoln versailles which I am now convinced is the perfect lincoln from the 70s refined perfectly engineered and not lacking any of the 1970s amenities

  • awsome Lincoln! Was it this clean when you got it? or did you do any resto, work. I have always loved Lincolns. I am on my 4th one now and love it. I've had a 84 town car, 88 Towncar, 91 Cont.95 towncar, and now i have a 99 twoncar cartier. its a cream puff, spotless. Bought it off of and old man. has only 51,987 on it. Cost $ 42,786.00 new. I stole it for $ 8,000.00

  • Thank you. I am the second owner and yes, the car was this clean when I purchased it. I have done nothing except maintenance type things. I have had it now 10 yrs. It has 70K on it. It gets driven only occasionally in good weather. It has led a sheltered life. I love it and hope to have it many more years! I'm sure I would have liked your 84 and 88 Town Cars. I also have an 89 Town Car (triple white) that I also enjoy.

  • As a Cadillac-man,i've always liked the way Lincoln executed their interiors.the interior on your TC is absolutely beautiful.

  • Thank you. Having one of each- a Cadillac and a Lincoln, I love each for what they are. The likes of each will never be seen again. Lincoln did have some spectacular interiors. I like this one of mine finished in Jubilee Gold Valleo Velour. And nobody did white like Cadillac - '78 white on white Eldo Biarritz. Gorgeous!! Too bad we can't order pretty cars anymore.

  • A beautiful car such as this would

be worth the effort of working

a few hours every week to fill it up.

They don't make them this gorgeous anymore.

  • beautiful town car,79 was the last year for the big ones. i had a 67 with the gangster doors.

  • Thanks for posting this video. I owned "Big Linc" just like this one some years ago. It was the finest car I ever owned.

  • is it the catier edition?

  • No. Cartier was a special designer edition for '79 as were the Emilio Pucci, Bill Blass and Givenchy editions.

  • its a big box

  • Does this Lincoln chime or buzz if you start it up without your seatbelt on?

  • Interesting question. According to the owners manual it is supposed to chime. However since the time of purchase it has never made a sound. There is no difference if a seat belt is worn or not. Just start and drive away!

  • If you leave the key in the ignition with the driver's door open, does it make a chime sound unlike Cadillacs at that time or a buzz sound like Plymouths at that time?

  • In this situation it just makes a buzz sound until I pull the key out a little. I always leave the keys in it as it is parked in a secured garage. Interestingly, I have a '76 Fleetwood Brougham and it makes the same kind of sound when the door is opened, only it is more annoying.

  • I have one and yes it chimes. Cool as hell!

  • Could you do a video of your 1979 Lincoln?

  • What an elegant machine! So Classy! I have a new Town Car & it does not compare to this classic beauty! I'm jealous. Thanks for sharing it!

  • Thank you. I guess there is no use in comparing our respective models. They are such different creatures. Each nice for its time. I must admit that I favor mine since I dearly love the styling details of days past..Coach lamps, opera windows, wire wheel covers, vinyl top, boxy body..etc. I have driven the new ('07)Town Car and it IS nice but...at least it had a hood ornament!

  • Oh yes, I know exactly what you mean. I had a 79 Mark V, Lincolns of the past are truly special. I love the overstuiffed seats in yours and I wish mine had atleast the opera windows, lincoln should've never stopped putting those little windows in their sedans.

  • i have an 86 towncar about as mint as this.... you have a beautiful car....

  • I loved my '79 Town Car, mine was triple black. She had 46k orginal miles on her. When I went back to college, I had to sell her...one of my bigger regrets in life.

Its great to see someone else enjoy these rolling legends....

  • Thank you. I think that it is a special car. I love it and hope to keep it many more years. It will only become more special as the years pass. I'm glad you had the opportunity to enjoy one. Maybe there is another one in your future??

  • My fav Lincoln is the 1969 Mark V III.

  • nice ride pimpin.put sum music w/ the video

  • id deal a few drugs in that baby

  • Sorry, not with my car.

  • Gorgeous car! Makes me miss my '82 Lincoln Mark VI...they just don't make cars this beautiful, reliable and luxurious anymore.

  • Thank you. I really enjoy it. In my opinion, the American luxury car was it's biggest and grandest throughout the seventies. The new Lincolns and Cadillacs just don't compare. Expensive and totally lacking any identity. In Detroit, elegant lines, coach lamps and chrome are as taboo as a Toyota.

  • Nice car!! I really want to get one myself. I always loved the Town Car.

  • Thank you. I favor this body style which ran '77-'79. Your videos are great! I look forward to each one.

  • why are these cars expensive..?

i dont know much about cars

  • they arent expensive..... i got mine with 105,000km for 2800....and its more reliable (luxurious too in my opinion) then my dad bimmer
