Ghandi thought that pacifism was not honourable but that nonviolence was. This is not a view I endorse it should be stated but it is a subtle difference that is difficult to understand and unmentioned by these two.
It's true that he stated that violence was preferable to cowardice. Non-cooperation is probably the most accurate word to describe his method, and non-cooperation usually illicits a violent response from the person demanding your cooperation, non-violence can't be interpreted as non-resistance, but non-cooperation is non-violent resistance.
Love it when he remembers the word for his brother in a really nice way.
